Background / History

Before transmigrating, Chen Si was a seventeen-year-old student from China with a college entrance examination approaching. He awakens in a younger body in the Ackerman family home, initially believing that the unfamiliar setting and his extraordinary strength are part of a dream. Over several days, he accepts that he has entered the world of Attack on Titan 1 2 22.

The Ackermans found him alone in the forest and welcomed him as family. When Mr. Ackerman questioned his unfamiliar surname, Chen Si claimed that his surname was Ackerman, reasoning that the identity would help explain his growing physical abilities. His knowledge of the original story prompted him to warn the family about danger, but exhaustion and severe headaches disrupted his attempt to prevent the traffickers’ attack 2.

After Mr. Ackerman was killed, Chen Si fought the traffickers despite his depleted energy. A period of sleep restored him, allowing him to break his restraints and act alongside Eren. Mrs. Ackerman survived, and Chen Si openly accepted the role of Mikasa’s brother 2 3 4.

Appearance

Chen Si has black hair and black eyes, features that initially lead Mr. Ackerman to consider whether he is of Eastern descent 2.

  • Age regression: Arrives in the body of an approximately eight- or nine-year-old child, with smoother skin than in his previous life 1 2.
  • Height: Was 178 centimeters at seventeen before transmigration; initially becomes a 150-centimeter child and remains below 170 centimeters during training. Later stands 183 centimeters tall 22 391.
  • Lightning manifestations: Blue light shines from his eyes, while electrical arcs surround his body during combat 25 218.
  • Military dress: Wears Training Corps and Survey Corps equipment before later appearing in a marshal’s uniform 25 108 391.
  • Titan forms: Deification initially produces a thirty-meter lightning-surrounded body; worldwide lightning absorption later enlarges it to forty meters 218 366.

Personality

Usually calm and easygoing, Chen Si frequently jokes, swears, flirts, and boasts about his appearance or strength. His classmates pick up his profane slang, and his teasing of Jean persists even after lifesaving rescues. That relaxed manner disappears when someone insults his family or threatens those close to him 17 20 42 61.

His strongest commitment is to his companions rather than to an abstract duty to save everyone. He acknowledges that he cannot rescue every casualty, but repeatedly risks his life and spends scarce energy on people he believes are worth saving. He also rejects Order’s proposal to kill its other hosts to restore its power, refusing to sacrifice companions in the name of protecting them 33 36 117 250.

Chen Si is capable of calculated deception and ruthless violence. He pretends to support Zeke’s euthanasia plan to gain his trust and fabricates a compassionate family history while courting Zoe’s confidence. Later, he is troubled by the innocent Marleyans killed through his actions and by the hatred his speeches helped spread among the Yeagerists 197 295 393 469.

His views on freedom are conflicted. He promises to protect Mikasa’s right to choose her own life, yet eventually favors military deterrence and a balance of power to preserve Paradis. Eren challenges whether this arrangement makes anyone truly free 4 388.

Abilities & Skills

Ackerman Bloodline and Combat

  • Physical enhancement: Exceptional strength, reflexes, stamina, and speed are present even before full awakening 1 19.
  • Awakened baseline: After his first Titan kill, he can still fight a small Titan on foot when both gas and electrical reserves are nearly exhausted 25 27.
  • Improvised fighting: Initially copies movements he has seen rather than relying on formal martial training 4.
  • Experience gap: His bloodline does not erase Levi’s superior combat experience. The Jaw Titan’s speed and coordinated attacks also expose weaknesses in his usual brute-force approach 64 81.
  • Reduced pain: Lightning tempering greatly diminishes pain sensitivity, but does not prevent injury, blood loss, or weakness. Roald’s attacks later cause severe pain despite this protection 81 145 346.

Lightning Manipulation

  • Direct attacks: Channels electricity through strikes, releases ranged blasts, and uses lightning to scorch or tear apart Titans 25 218 300.
  • Thunderclap: Concentrates his entire electrical reserve into a massive attack; its first full-power use destroys more than two hundred gathered Titans 218.
  • Defensive field: Burns bullets and small projectiles before they reach his skin; electrical arcs can also shatter an incoming blade 149 211 235.
  • Flight and rapid movement: Flies without maneuvering equipment and moves as a bolt or stream of lightning. His Titan form reaches the edge of the atmosphere and later travels at ten times the speed of sound 25 220 366.
  • Metal tempering: Gradually hardens and sharpens weapons through repeated electrical treatment 11 25.
  • Environmental supply: Can absorb atmospheric lightning to sustain and enlarge his Titan form. Marcel counters this by taking all available lightning for himself 366 375.

Energy Recovery

  • Early exhaustion: Excessive lightning use causes drowsiness, headaches, and sharply diminished physical performance. Around twenty minutes of sleep initially restores him 2 3.
  • Titan kills: After awakening, kills immediately return some energy. A seven-meter Titan restores roughly half his early reserve, while a three-meter Titan restores less than a tenth 25.
  • Scaling limitation: As his reserves expand, the energy returned by Pure Titan kills becomes negligible compared with his expenditure 138.
  • Broader replenishment: The final template allows energy recovery from killing any intelligent creature or Titan 218.

Divine Sense and Mental Energy

  • Target detection: Automatically locks onto nearby Titans after his first kill 25.
  • Memory access: Enters Eren’s memories to examine the future Eren has witnessed 226.
  • Illusion resistance: Breaks a supernatural illusion of accusing dead loved ones with thunder, restoring his suppressed Divine Sense 299.
  • Limitations: Hostile effects can block his perception. Later, without Divine Sense, he cannot locate dispersed Drus soldiers after razing their cover 300 425.

Deification

  • Body reconstruction: His final template rebuilds his body using electrical energy; his blood-producing heart remains unchanged during the transformation 218.
  • Thunder God Titan: Produces a thirty-meter form, later enlarged to forty meters through worldwide lightning absorption 218 366.
  • Duration: Initially has a stated five-minute limit. Indefinite duration is specifically conditional on continuing lightning; a later naval operation again uses a five-minute transformation window 218 366 422.
  • Vulnerability: Superior energy can overwhelm his Titan body, and control of atmospheric lightning can prevent him from reforming it 346 374 375.

Three Thousand Thunder Shadows

  • Power multiplication: Order describes its completed potential as releasing three thousand times the user’s power in an instant 235.
  • Growth: Develops from thirty shadows to five hundred after the Snow Mountain Flower’s insight, eventually reaching three thousand 235 320 422.
  • Battlefield application: Uses three thousand Thunderbolt Titan afterimages to attack a widely spread naval force 422.
  • Future-self connection: Older Chen Si demonstrates the technique while opposing his younger self inside Eren’s memories 227.

Energy Sword Techniques

  • Lightning weapons: Condenses electricity into a greatsword or longsword 353 366 469.
  • Heaven and Earth Annihilation: An enlightened sword attack that briefly tears a fissure through space, decapitates Roald, and follows with thousands of slashes 353.
  • Limits: His earlier Titan-powered strike cannot break Annie’s hardened crystal, and Roald later shatters a thunder-condensed sword 176 366.

Healing and Faith Power

  • Electrical restoration: Electrical energy repairs Christa’s dead cells during the snowy-mountain incident. Later, Chen Si converts thunderbolts into life force to close Zoe’s bullet wounds and expel shrapnel 33 445.
  • Mikasa-linked recovery: Mikasa’s tears become electricity that repairs his wounds after the Colossal Titan’s explosion; her anguish also causes pain in his heart 73.
  • Faith purification: The system states that faith power can purify diseases, bloodlines, flesh, and bones, and restore Pure Titans to human form 147.
  • Faith limitation: Faith power itself cannot heal traumatic injuries, leaving him unable to save Lifa 147.
  • Laws of death: His healing fails against the death laws inflicted through Zoe’s dagger. Her intervention saves him but permanently costs him his Thunderclap Body 446.

Practical Skills

  • Horsemanship and driving: Receives both skills as system-granted masteries 18 320.
  • Cooking: Prepares fried rice that impresses Mikasa, Sasha, and Niccolo 250.
  • Medical work: Recognizes a baby’s severe influenza and intervenes when guards are preventing the family from obtaining help 312.
  • Training and persuasion: Helps Eren develop hardening through repeated sparring and inspires cadets to consider joining the Survey Corps 25 183.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Lightning-tempered dagger — After a month of treatment, can cut an untempered counterpart in half without damage. Its short reach makes it unsuitable as his preferred Titan weapon 11.
  • Lightning-tempered blade — Prepared over three years before the Trost battle; used for the Titan kill that awakens his bloodline 25.
  • Vertical Maneuvering Equipment — Provides mobility independently of his electrical reserve and remains useful when his lightning is depleted 25 27 145.
  • Snow Mountain Flower — Releases a lightning-art insight that strengthens Three Thousand Thunder Shadows and later contributes to his sword enlightenment 320 353.
  • Air Force 1 shoes — Arrive with him alongside his school uniform. Initially far too large, they fit again after three years in the Training Corps 75.
  • Marshal’s uniform — Worn during his public meeting with Historia 391.

Relationships

  • Mikasa Ackerman — Adoptive sister and romantic attachment. He promises to protect her freedom of choice; her grief helps revive him, and he later intervenes across timelines to save her. The author describes her devotion as profound 4 73 488 517.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman — His adoptive family in the new world. Their acceptance gives him a home; he tries to protect them from the attack that kills Mr. Ackerman 2 3 4.
  • Eren Yeager — Close friend, training partner, and eventual ideological opponent. Chen Si stakes his life on Eren’s ability to protect the squad, investigates his future memories, and later confronts the necessity of stopping him after Grotesque merges with him 108 183 226 388 469.
  • Historia / Christa — He risks his life to save her during snowy-mountain training. She credits him with giving her a reason to live, and the author states that she loves him and reunites with him in the end 33 130 517.
  • Annie Leonhart — Sparring partner and romantic attachment. After learning that Reiner, not Annie, orchestrated the attack that killed Carla, Chen Si promises to protect her father and seek her release. He later admits that he likes and cares about her 20 176 242.
  • Chris Wenyard / Zhang Surou — Fellow transmigrator and confidante who knows his original background. They discuss the original story together; she later spends her vitality to transfer law power into him 84 281 377.
  • Zoe — Marleyan agent whose love for him conflicts with her loyalty to her country. She spares him after the volcanic rescue and ultimately dies after taking half the laws of death to save him 295 418 446 517.
  • Philia — Confronts him over the hatred recorded in his speeches. Zoe’s final letter leads her to recognize that he was not her sister’s true killer 469.
  • Jean Kirstein — Fellow cadet and repeatedly rescued friend. Chen Si affectionately irritates him with the nickname “Jeanie” 42 61.
  • Levi — Survey Corps captain whose strength and experience challenge Chen Si’s confidence in his bloodline. Protects him from Kenny when his lightning is unavailable 81 145.
  • Hange — Claims Chen Si as her student during his amnesia and assists with Eren’s hardening experiments 131 183.
  • Floch — Joins the Church of Thunder to follow him and is welcomed into his squad 108.
  • Blake Ackerman — Founder of the Church of Thunder. Organizes worshippers who assist Chen Si and vows to protect his bond with Mikasa 108 147.
  • Yasuo — Young admirer to whom Chen Si gives a blade and the hope of becoming a soldier for humanity’s freedom. Later travels and fights alongside him 211 320 458 469.
  • Order — His internal adviser and source of system explanations. Chen Si refuses its proposal to kill other hosts and suspects their relationship is symbiotic 250 366.
  • Roald — Major opponent whose regeneration and superior energy initially outclass Chen Si. Their battles drive his sword enlightenment and worldwide lightning absorption 346 353 366.
  • Older Chen Si — Future version who warns that this is the last chance to change his companions’ fate and later blocks him inside Eren’s memories 132 226 227.
