Chapter Summaries

Chen Si investigated Zoe’s disappearance and wondered why she had stayed beside him while he was unconscious, then turned his attention to a growing international crisis. After Historia rejected Drus’s proposed alliance, Chen Si signed a treaty with Drus, but a coalition declared war on the Eldia Empire and cut Paradis Island off from the Marley Continent.

• Chen Si questioned Corporal Anthony about the woman who escaped and learned that she had remained near him for twenty minutes before fleeing.
• Chen Si nearly killed Anthony after suspecting a reflection might have come from a dagger, but stopped when Anthony spoke of his duty to Eldia.

After Eldia declared war on the Mid-East Allied Forces, Chen Si used the Thunderbolt Titan to devastate the Mid-East Fleet before the Eldian navy counterattacked. As the surviving enemy ships fled, Gal saw a chance to gain prestige and began looking for a way to catch them.

• Historia declared war on the Inledi Kingdom, the Kingdom of Farnsi, the Oran Republic, the Grand Duchy of Yitao'an, and the Republic of Bohemia on June 3, 856.
• Chen Si rallied two hundred thousand Eldian troops at Thunder God Port and transformed into the Thunderbolt Titan as Eldia’s fleet prepared to attack.

Gal destroyed the Mid-East fleet and became Eldia’s navy commander, while Drus joined the war and helped Eldia conquer the Seven Mid-East Allied Nations. The chapter ended with Inledi’s surrender on September 21, 856, leaving the entire alliance defeated.

As Drus and Eldia moved toward war, Chen Si tried to contain a mutiny and suspected a covert plot behind the bombing of the Drus embassy. Moriarty, Tailor, and Zoe realized someone had lured them into a trap, and a woman’s voice challenged Tailor’s accusation that Dusk had betrayed them.

• Skayev decided the Soviet Union should wait for Drus and Eldia to weaken each other before entering the war, while Hilleri chose to compromise with Eldia and focus on the Far East.
• Chen Si argued that Paradis Island should avoid war with Drus for now, but then learned the Drus embassy had been bombed and a unit under Hannes had opened fire on Drus forces.

Meanwhile, Kenny broke Shadow's resistance by threatening his family, and Chen Si learned that a Special Operations Department Codename Agent had infiltrated the Survey Corps.

• Chen Si suspected Zoe Mogwin might know about Hange and the Codename Agents, but Erwin's telegram warned him that Soviet warships were gathering near Hizuru and heading toward Paradis Island.
• Chen Si reviewed reports of Drus's devastating advance into the Soviet Union and suspected the Soviets wanted Paradis Island's iceburst stone to relieve their fuel shortage.

Gal launched a mutiny at sea, seized control of the Eldia Fleet, and set out to destroy the existing order on Paradis Island. Meanwhile, Chen Si and the 104th Cadet Corps searched for Hange, who feared Mogwin’s final meal meant she was about to be executed.

• Kenny reported that he had likely found Hange, and Chen Si ordered him to end the investigation into Caesar and return him to duty.
• Gal redirected the Eldia Fleet toward Paradis Island, then had his marines kill Eldertine and used a spy scare to purge Survey Corps officers and Eldian noncommissioned officers.
