"Ahem. Hello, everyone. My name is Bai Yu. I'm from Shiganshina District, I'm ten years old, and I like sleeping. Some creep dragged me here against my will. Please take good care of me."
The assembled members of the Survey Corps below were left at a loss for words by his introduction. Looking at him and hearing his age, quite a few frowned, doubts stirring in their minds.
They're sending children this young to the Survey Corps now...
Standing beside Erwin was a man just under a hundred and sixty-five centimeters tall, with black hair and dead-fish eyes that carried a faintly resentful, oppressive air.
He looked up at Bai Yu, then turned to Erwin beside him in confusion.
"Hey, Erwin. What were you thinking? This brat's only ten, isn't he?"
But Erwin remained unmoved and simply said with conviction,
"He'll become one of the Survey Corps' main pillars of strength in the future, too."
Hearing that, the man with the dead-fish eyes said nothing more. He merely stared intently at Bai Yu, who was introducing himself on the platform.
Looking down from the platform, Bai Yu spotted many familiar faces below, people he knew from his previous life. Their actual appearances differed from what he remembered only in the way real people differed from two-dimensional characters.
Most of the people here will die in the future. That's just how this world is...
Once the introductions were over, Erwin said a few more words from the platform before dismissing everyone to their respective duties.
Bai Yu gave a small yawn. The sunshine was pleasant, perfect for a nap, but a figure suddenly blocked his path.
Although the man before him was considerably taller than he was, that was only relative. His signature height and dead-fish eyes immediately told Bai Yu who he was.
Humanity's Strongest, Levi Ackerman.
Oh, right. He joined the Survey Corps in 844, didn't he? That means he's been here for a little over a year and a half.
He can take on intelligent Titans single-handedly, too. Later on, he practically steamrolls them, chopping them up like vegetables. In short, he's not human.
Attack on Dwarf, more like...
Bai Yu inwardly poked fun at him.
But all Bai Yu wanted now was to get to sleep as soon as possible. Rubbing his eyes, he walked around Levi, only to hear him speak before he had taken two steps.
"Hey, brat."
Bai Yu turned his head slightly. He had barely slept all day, and this was already interfering with his sleep schedule.
His current body was gradually getting accustomed to sleeping every day.
"Levi, want to hear a joke?"
"You know my name?"
But Bai Yu answered with something entirely unrelated.
"Once I tell you this joke, you can't stop me from going to sleep anymore, okay?"
Their exchange drew the attention of the soldiers who had yet to leave. A short-haired woman near the front watched with mild curiosity.
Levi was growing increasingly impatient with Bai Yu. He was clearly just a ten-year-old brat, yet he somehow looked like he was asking for a beating.
"What are you trying to say?"
A grin slowly spread across Bai Yu's lips, as though his scheme had succeeded.
"Long, long ago, a bunch of Titans lived in this world. They used to be free, but one day, someone appeared and started killing them. So, to keep that person out, the Titans built walls a hundred and seventy centimeters tall..."
The instant he finished, Bai Yu took off running. Taking advantage of his small frame, he slipped straight through the crowd, scooped up Xiate, and sprinted away.
"Haha! Funny, right?"
But not one of those left behind was smiling. The air around them seemed to grow colder, a chill creeping over them. Levi had his head lowered, hiding his eyes.
A female soldier with shoulder-length brown hair stepped forward and cautiously reached toward him.
"C-Captain, a-are you okay?"
Levi raised his head slightly. In an instant, murderous intent poured out of him, his eyes filled with a savage sharpness. The female Survey Corps soldier recoiled several steps in fright, nearly falling to the ground.
"I'm going to kill that brat!"
The terrifying words emerged one by one through his tightly clenched teeth. A chill ran down everyone's spine, and they all fled at once, afraid of getting caught in the fallout. In moments, Levi was the only person left in the vast grounds.
Meanwhile, Bai Yu had carried Xiate to a distant hillside and sat down on the grass, leaning against a tree trunk.
He had teased Levi a little. Back in his previous life, Bai Yu had always wondered what would happen if he told the captain that joke from the internet to his face. He seemed pretty angry.
Well, he should cool off in a few days. Surely he wouldn't actually attack a ten-year-old child... probably...
As he thought that, he finally failed to hold back another yawn and lay down with his head in Xiate's lap.
"Xiate, let me sleep for a bit. I haven't slept all day."
Well, all the daylight hours.
Bai Yu slowly closed his eyes.
His consciousness sank into the system's Training Ground.
The map had expanded a little recently. The terrain data for this section of Wall Rose had also been loaded into the Training Ground.
Bai Yu sat atop the wall. The Omni-Directional Mobility Gear he wore differed somewhat from the standard gear used by the Corps. Besides an assisting exoskeleton, it also had some precision controls to help him operate it.
The long blades in his hands had not changed much. Bai Yu had merely added a few features to the original design and made some improvements.
The Daily Panel appeared before him.

Killing Titans here referred to doing so in the real world. This long-term task had appeared when the Titans breached Wall Maria.
He casually closed the system panel.
With his long blades secured in their sheaths, he put on his headphones and listened to the gentle music. He leaped from the wall, the wind whistling past his ears alongside the melody.
His gaze seemed almost casual as he looked at the Titans, slashing downward with a blade held in a reverse grip...
