Kaguya’s documented progression consists of recovering her depleted essence and gaining control over another dimension, rather than advancing through named cultivation realms.

Background / History

Kaguya arrived in the world alongside Ōtsutsuki Isshiki and an Observer. At that time, its inhabitants had no chakra, could not cultivate natural energy, and lived in villages rather than nations. The expedition intended to plant a Chakra God Tree, with Kaguya designated as the Ōtsutsuki sacrifice needed to activate it 135.

Unwilling to die, she made a pact with Moryo, the Ten-Tails, who already resented Isshiki. Kaguya ambushed Isshiki during preparations, but fled after Moryo joined the battle. Both combatants suffered grievous injuries. She then used Isshiki’s ruined body as the God Tree sacrifice, although he survived through a Kāma implanted in Jigen 135.

Kaguya pursued her own plans through the tree and became the progenitor who brought chakra to the world. Hagoromo’s later role was to pass chakra on, rather than create it 135 140.

She deliberately allowed herself to be sealed to conceal her presence from the Ōtsutsuki threat. However, Hagoromo and Hamura used the seal to continuously drain her essence, prolonging their lives and attempting to evolve into fully realized Ōtsutsuki. By the time she understood the arrangement, she could no longer escape. Black Zetsu remained in the Shinobi World as her contingency 135 136.

Personality

Despite Kazama’s “Sweet Fool” nickname, Kaguya is capable of calculated self-preservation. She refuses her intended sacrifice, exploits the aftermath of Moryo’s battle with Isshiki, and initially uses confinement to hide from her clan. She also challenges Kazama’s plans to expose the world’s coordinates, knowing that Isshiki is only a mid-tier fighter in Takamagahara 135 146.

Her attachment to Hagoromo and Hamura survives their betrayal at first. She embraces them with tenderness and sorrow before demanding her stolen essence back. Although she weeps while destroying their origin clones, confirmation of their theft extinguishes the remaining maternal affection she feels toward them 137 138.

Kaguya genuinely chooses to cooperate with Kazama, valuing that he does not regard her as a sacrifice. His strength gives her a growing sense of security, but she is easily distracted by her attraction to him. This distraction delays her recognition of the Observer and contributes to her misunderstanding Kazama’s excitement in the Time-Space Interstice as a romantic advance 141 142 148 152 160.
