Chapter Summaries

While Yamori tortured Ken Kaneki, Kaneki relived memories of his parents, his aunt, and Hideyoshi Nagachika as Rise challenged his belief that he should suffer rather than hurt others. Yamori then forced Kaneki to choose whether Mitsuto or his mother, Ms. Megumi, would live, leaving Kaneki unable to decide.

• Ken Kaneki remembered his father's funeral and realized he could not recall his face, while Rise accused him of neglecting his father.
• Kaneki recalled how his mother worked herself to death helping her sister, and how his aunt later turned against him despite his efforts to fit in.

Yamori forced Ken Kaneki to watch as he killed Megumi and Mitsuto, then Rise pushed Ken to confront his guilt and anger. Ken vowed to protect the people close to him and attacked Rize Kamishiro, beginning to feed on her.
