NERV Underground Base, Kaworu Nagisa's dormitory
Shinji packed his luggage, preparing to leave and return to Misato's House. Since Huang Zhetian wasn't dead, his reason for staying with Kaworu no longer meant anything.
A faint smile curved Kaworu's lips as he asked Shinji, "Going back? Don't want to stay with me anymore?"
Shinji's whole body involuntarily shuddered. Without turning around, he replied, "Yeah. Sorry, I've been holed up here for days."
Kaworu sat up on the bed and drawled, "Sorry? That's what you say, but I don't think you actually mean it."
Expressionless, Shinji said politely, "I'm very grateful. Bye."
With that, Shinji hurriedly pulled the door shut and rushed away.
Watching Shinji leave, Kaworu couldn't help thinking, How practical. The moment he heard the Third Children was still around, he got up and ran straight home.
For some reason, the more Kaworu read the book in his hands afterward, the more irritated he became. Finally, his patience ran out, and he hurled it hard at the door.

The book struck the door and slid to the floor, leaving the room quiet again.
Kaworu frowned, puzzling over his own behavior. What was he doing?
Was there something wrong with me?

All three were eating instant food, making do with what they had. If Shinji hadn't returned, Misato wouldn't have come out to prepare dinner.
During their time at home, Misato and Asuka had eaten separately. Instant noodle containers, cans, and other rubbish still hadn't been cleared from Misato's room.
Shinji put down his spoon and asked Misato, "Miss Misato, what exactly did Zhetian-kun mean when he said he'd come later?"
