Everyone instantly held their breath. Only the steam from the tea curled upward above the table.
Chen Zixiu cast a sidelong glance at Chen Xiaojun. "What do you think?"
Chen Xiaojun considered for a moment, then answered in a low but clear voice, "The Crimson Church has gone mad over our Chen Clan's rise. Their madness is all the more reason for us to remain calm!"
Silence fell.
The turbulent emotions that had filled the hall slowly settled.
A long while passed.
Chen Xiaojun asked, "Great-grandfather, do you know anything about vine-type emperor soul beasts?"
At this, Chen Zixiu casually replied, "Vine ancestors?"
Chen Cong leaned forward slightly, his bearing reminiscent of pine and cypress, and explained with a smile, "Xiaojun, Plant Type soul beasts are rarely called emperors unless they lead their own kind."
Chen Xiaojun blinked, his pupils contracting slightly. "Then what are they called?"
Chen Cong patiently answered, "Flowers, grasses, vines, and trees often end up growing into tree forms, and they have numerous offspring. The two major categories of Vine Trees and trees, especially, are generally called ancestors—the Ancestor of Grass and Wood."
Chen Xiaojun looked puzzled. "Why ancestors? I've never heard that before."
Chen Cong explained in detail, "Once animal soul beasts reach a certain level of strength, they can be called soul beast emperors. The title represents both their strength and their status."
"But plant soul beasts are different. Their emperor isn't necessarily the strongest; the title only represents status. That's why the term 'ancestor' came about."
"Xiao Yi's Immortal Evergreen Vine and Elder Qing are a good example. They place more importance on status."
Chen Cong added, "Of course, many of us humans don't understand this, and some still call them kings or emperors."
Chen Xiaojun pressed on.
