The assassins of the Xuan Ye Pavilion withdrew like an ebbing tide, their figures gradually disappearing beneath the forest's cover.
Only after they had left the Sunset Forest did Xiu Sha breathe a sigh of relief.
"Your Excellency!" Xiu Sha approached Xing Ye Douluo and bowed his head to report.
Xing Ye Douluo said nothing. He merely gazed silently into the distant forest, a profound light flickering in his eyes, as though he were pondering something.
Xiu Sha dared not disturb him. He simply stood silently beside him, unable to interrupt Xing Ye Douluo's thoughts.
After a while, Xing Ye Douluo slowly spoke. "If you cannot kill Chen Cong, then even slaughtering everyone else at a terrible cost would be meaningless."
Xiu Sha's heart jolted at those words.
He knew Xing Ye Douluo was warning him not to make needless sacrifices in pursuit of a pointless victory.
Yet, judging by Xing Ye Douluo's tone, it was hard to tell whether that warning was meant for Xiu Sha or himself.
"Besides, there was another power at the Title Douluo level flickering in and out of perception in the distance just now!" Xing Ye Douluo continued.
Xiu Sha was even more shocked. He knew what this news meant for their organization.
"Did Chen Yu or Chen Hong come here as well?" Xiu Sha could not help asking.
"No. That was an unfamiliar Titled Douluo's aura, and it definitely wasn't Swordsman! It belonged to a Titled Douluo with a beast martial soul, but they undoubtedly have deep ties to the Chen Clan," Xing Ye replied.
Xiu Sha frowned. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Your Excellency, with so many of them in the Sunset Forest, they must be hiding some great secret. Should we monitor them, or spread the news?"
"No need!"
