Background / History
Chen Xiaojun recognizes Douluo Continent through its martial souls and the identities of his father, Chen Xun, and elder brother, Chen Jianjun. His previous-life knowledge includes their expected futures: Chen Xun would disappear after challenging Tang Chen, while Chen Jianjun would die from injuries sustained against Qian Daoliu. These expectations place considerable pressure on him, although he later recognizes that his arrival may have changed his brother’s fate 10 710.
Originally named Chen Jianxin, he insists on becoming Chen Xiaojun at five. He associates the original name with Chen Xin, one of his favorite characters, and also wants to avoid the insulting wordplay attached to that name 10.
Raised in Chenlin Village, he receives instruction alongside clan children and descendants of hereditary retainer families. Before his martial soul awakening, his family already considers him exceptionally suited to swordsmanship: he has a dense, powerful physique, absorbs ancestral medicinal baths unusually well, and understands sword principles quickly enough to give his father and grandfather new insights 13.
Appearance
Chen Xiaojun resembles his mother, Ye Xiuxin, with softer facial contours and a well-proportioned build. His later appearance combines delicate features with a scholarly air 11 826.
- Hair: Smooth, lustrous black hair 251.
- Face: Sword-like eyebrows, bright eyes, red lips, and white teeth 251.
- Build: Slender and over 1.5 meters tall when nearly ten; his outwardly unmuscular physique conceals considerable strength 13 251.
- Bearing: Calm and reserved, with an intelligent, penetrating gaze 251.
Personality
Self-discipline defines Chen Xiaojun’s childhood more strongly than diligence or cleverness alone. He maintains a regular routine without finding it tedious and repeatedly reviews his own battles and sword manuals. After encountering superior technique, he acknowledges that his achievements depend on inherited arts, resources, previous-life knowledge, and training—not talent alone 13 81.
He is meticulous, adaptable, and inclined to plan before acting. Chen Yanwu identifies these qualities as both strengths and weaknesses: during the attack on Chenlin Village, his cautious route would have been sensible for a traveler, but insufficient for a direct-line heir expected to reassure and protect the villagers. He accepts the criticism and revises his plan 159.
His political calculations coexist with genuine affection. He openly admits that helping the Dugu Family was also intended to make investment in him and the Chen Clan attractive. Later assessments credit his rise as heir to both his intricate schemes and his sincerity toward others 262 1248.
Among friends and relatives, he is playful and sharp-tongued, particularly when teasing Zhu Wuneng or probing Chen Jianjun’s romantic interests. His composure is not absolute: repeated defeats can leave him dejected, and Xiao Yi’s injuries make him visibly anxious 280 826 906 1410.
Abilities & Skills
Sword God Pearls
His mutated martial soul initially manifests as ten pearls rather than swords. Each pearl possesses its own special ability, and each soul ring is associated with a different divine sword 25 26.
- Selective manifestation: Learns to summon individual pearls or several together instead of all ten at once 26.
- Sword-qi projectiles: Uses the untransformed pearls to strike opponents after infusing them with sword qi 25.
- Activation requirement: The first pearl requires a thousand years’ worth of soul power. Increasing requirements for later pearls are initially his hypothesis, not a confirmed fixed rule 26.
- Attribute advantage: His martial soul’s characteristics prevent opponents from countering him through attributes, while allowing his soul power to counter theirs 463.
| Divine Sword | Documented Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Chengying Sword | Uses the swift, light-splitting sword style and can be projected as a powerful sword aura 627 968. |
| Hanguang Sword | Flies alongside Chengying during an advanced application of his first soul skill 534. |
| Chun Jun Sword | Possesses five-element attributes, suppression resistance, martial soul suppression, and a charged attack that doubles the next strike’s power 247 275. |
| Fish Intestine Sword | Reddish-copper short blade associated with his third soul skill; its attacks combine scorching power with a cold-water presence 304. |
| Gan Jiang Sword | One of the divine swords whose Yin–Yang attributes deepen following divine harmonization 2007. |
| Moye Sword | Wields Divine Erosion Power against mental shock waves; also participates in his later Yin–Yang development 894 2007. |
His Nethersea Seven Kill Sword is separately documented as possessing second-tier manifest slaughter and erosion attributes 872.
Soul Skills
| Skill | Effects and Applications |
|---|---|
| First Soul Skill — Fleeting Light, Passing Shadow | Used against Cheng Tai. An advanced application sends Chengying and Hanguang wheeling through the air together 70 534. |
| First Soul Skill Advancement — Twin Swords | A later named advancement invoked during a killing-blow sequence 934. |
| Second Soul Skill — Peerless Nobility | Increases attack, defense, speed, resistance, and stamina by 100% for half an hour. Resistance specifically includes resisting and reducing elemental damage 392 612. |
| Third Soul Skill — Sweep Through a Thousand Armies | Unleashes a powerful assault through the Fish Intestine Sword. Its advanced form delivers three consecutive strikes rated at 100%, 150%, and 250% attack power 304 392. |
| Fusion Skill — Sword Wheel: Peerless Splendor | Uses the balance and resonance of six swords. After his later breakthrough, he estimates its might would increase by at least another 30% 2007. |
Chun Jun’s innate Nobility passive is distinct from the activated second soul skill:
- Cannot be suppressed by other martial souls and suppresses other martial souls, particularly sword types 247.
- Is especially effective against mental attacks; it intervenes when Moye’s erosion cannot keep pace with Qian Daoliu’s mental shock waves 894.
- Its separate Charged Strike ability increases the next attack’s power by 100% 247 1531.
Swordsmanship and Movement
- Exceptional comprehension: Masters taught sword techniques rapidly. A Sword-Drawing Technique he supposedly “created himself” nearly catches an inattentive Chen Xun off guard before his awakening 13.
- Inherited foundations: Trains basic sword techniques, Sword-Drawing, Sword Palm, Sword Step, the Impartial Sword Qi Art, Sword Shadow Form, and Sword Eye 25.
- Sword Step: Uses Swift Body, Flying Wild Duck for sudden approaches and Void Star-Shattering for concealed movement, repositioning, and afterimages. He performs the latter far earlier than its usual cultivation requirements suggest 68 155 534.
- Multiple sword traditions: Employs Vertical and Horizontal Swordsmanship, Crisscross Swordsmanship, Cloudwater Sword Technique, and Green Lotus Sword Technique 275 291.
- Sword aura: Combines Hundred-Step Flying Sword and Sweep Across the Eight Directions into a crossing attack with Chengying and Chun Jun 627.
- Personal sword arts: Develops techniques tailored to each divine sword rather than relying exclusively on soul-ring skills. Chengying emphasizes speed and light splitting, while Chun Jun’s swordsmanship combines the five elements 968.
Cultivation and Physical Conditioning
- Ancestral medicinal baths: Absorbs their benefits unusually well, supporting his strength, vitality, and explosive power 13.
- Nine Yang Divine Skill: Produces supreme yang heat and Purple Mist Qi, allowing fire-like sword lotuses to neutralize water blades and supporting close-range combat 275 612.
- Nine Yin martial arts: Uses the hard, forceful Great Demon-Subduing Fist recorded in the Nine Yin Manual 612.
- Immortal-herb reserves: Residual medicinal potency and physical resilience allow him to gain four or five levels when absorbing soul rings 613.
- Above-rank output: At one documented stage, he can use the Seven Sword-Controlling Absolutes at Soul King strength without strain. Soul Emperor-strength attacks affect him only slightly, but Soul Saint-strength output injures his body 613.
Yin–Yang Techniques and Mental Power
- Six fundamental special abilities: His twin-sword system develops through paired basic, advanced, and ultimate abilities: disintegration and erosion, displacement and fusion, then brand resonance and evolution 1576.
- Yin–Yang comprehension: Divine harmonization advances his understanding to the peak of the first tier. Reaching the second tier remains an expectation pending full assimilation of the immortal herb 2007.
- Expanded Sea of Consciousness: Its size increases by more than 30%, with mental power becoming more abundant, condensed, and active 2007.
- Removal of the Heavenly Scar’s restraint: Lesser Siming covers the fissure and begins its healing. Previously, using an ultimate attack left him gravely injured and prevented consecutive use; afterward, he feels those shackles have broken 2007.
Strategy, Scholarship, and Other Skills
- Battlefield command: Organizes the evacuation and defense of Chenlin Village. A later overview credits him with commanding and winning three battles at Zhongnan Mountain 159 1518.
- Clan instruction: Acts as the younger generation’s “Shadow Instructor,” discussing techniques and mapping out future cultivation paths 857.
- Inheritance development: Helps adapt the Chen Clan’s traditional system to immortal-herb enhancement, the Nine Yin and Nine Yang system, and stronger cultivation foundations 968.
- Political planning: Recruits allies, coordinates relationships with government and imperial figures, and proposes ways for the Chen Clan to benefit from industrial transformation 262 723.
- Theory: Intends to pursue the path of a theoretical scholar 520.
- Cooking: Teaches Old Kong spice properties, combinations, recipes, and cooking techniques for the Ji–Liu engagement banquet 373.
- Poison countermeasures: Uses aromatic silk beauty pollen to neutralize Breeze and Jade Dew Paralytic Fragrance and restore allied fighters 413.
- Literary work: Produces storybooks, poems, and songs that attract admirers, including Ji Tiantian 1029.
