Background / History

Zhu Wuneng is the youngest of Zhu Tianhao and Ding Dang’s three children, after Zhu Wukui and Zhu Wuxin. His paternal family had served the Chen Clan’s direct lineage for over a century, with its defensive Stone Armor Boar martial soul making its members well suited to protecting sword-wielding heirs. His father served Chen Xun, while Wuneng grew up beside Chen Xiaojun 10 1139 1968.

Before his awakening, Ding Dang commissioned a refined-iron Nine-Toothed Rake for him and taught him the Ding Family’s inherited techniques. During the Wolf Bandit attack, he fought behind his older siblings, striking enemies that breached their line and driving them back into his siblings’ reach 149.

Chen Xiaojun had jokingly predicted that Wuneng might awaken a boar carrying a rake. The prediction proved remarkably close: his mutation united the Zhu and Ding inheritances in a single martial soul. At the elders’ invitation, Chen Xiaojun named it Marshal Tianpeng, which Wuneng enthusiastically accepted 10 228 229.

His unprecedented innate soul power made him a central hope of both families. Chen Yu arranged for him to train at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, where several elders could jointly guide his unusual development. Nearly four years of medicinal baths emphasized physical foundations rather than rapid leveling; the isolated upbringing also left gaps in his general education, prompting plans for further study at the clan school 230 588 605.

Appearance

  • Ordinary appearance: A round-faced, chubby boy in childhood, later described as slightly stocky and bearing some resemblance to Zhu Tianhao in his youth 10 228 808 1968.
  • Martial Soul Possession: Gains an imposing, muscular build, a more resolute gaze, and a commanding bearing while wielding an enormous rake 233.
  • Boar manifestation: Initially an upright boar in hard stone armor, surrounded by yellow light interwoven with red and blue 228.
  • Later manifestation: A three-meter-tall Stone Armor Boar with angular yellow keratin armor and two enormous curved tusks 1968.
  • Rake features: Nine sharp teeth; its later form carries Five Elements Orbs at the end of the handle 228 1968.

Personality

Wuneng is humorous, boastful, and highly responsive to an audience. He jokes about his own good looks, trades insults with friends, and becomes especially animated when spectators cheer him on. His apparently frivolous behavior also conceals a deliberate competitive tactic: he provokes opponents into impatience, hides his strength, and manipulates the pace of a fight 280 588 594 804 809.

His battlefield judgment is considerably sharper than his everyday manner suggests. Even before awakening, he remained composed amid lethal fighting; later, he showed meticulous thinking and decisive action when protecting Chen Xiaojun and other clan members. He nevertheless needed reminders that protecting his young master—not merely winning battles—was his primary duty 149 444 1139.

Beneath his confidence, Wuneng worries about falling behind Chen Xiaojun and Xiao Yi. Similar insecurity affects his relationship with Gao Cuilan: he struggles to believe he deserves her devotion despite his exceptional talent. He responds to setbacks with determination, declaring that he will eventually make his companions see him differently 552 595 1178.

Abilities & Skills

Marshal Tianpeng

A special symbiotic martial soul in which a beast and tool coexist. Its original elemental attributes were metal, water, fire, and earth; the later awakening of wood completed the five elements, alongside his separate strength attribute 464 1382 1970.

  • Combines the Stone Armor Boar’s durability with the Nine-Toothed Rake’s offensive reach and weight 228 592.
  • Possesses god-level potential, with acquired soul skills described as awakening latent features of the martial soul 1127.
  • Can display its beast and tool components separately for focused training, although Wuneng had not considered doing so before Chen Xiaojun’s instruction 1976.
  • Its symbiotic structure allows extremely gradual improvement of innate aptitude as its fusion deepens through cultivation, soul rings, and soul bones 1970.

Wind-Calling Ears

His first soul skill enlarges his ears and improves his ability to detect enemy movement 250.

  • Locates opponents through disturbances in the wind 252.
  • With greater soul-power input, turns his ears into enormous flapping wings capable of controlled flight 250.
  • Provides aerial mobility, but does not make him untouchable: Yu Zhengjun could pressure him with repeated airborne attacks 592.

Peach Blossom Eyes

His second soul-ring skill, associated with the mutated eyes formed during his second-ring absorption 256 1127.

  • Its activation produces green ripples and peach-blossom-shaped changes in his eyes 256.
  • Testing established that wood-attribute soul power and five-elements destruction power could activate the transformed eyes, unlike the other attributes he tried 256.
  • It is distinct from his independently developed divine-light attack 256.

Five Elements Destruction Divine Light

Originally named Five Elements Annihilation Divine Light, this is an innate eye technique and personal Legacy Soul Skill—not his second soul-ring skill. It releases the destructive interaction of the five elements through his mutated eyes 255 256 1976.

  • Fires five-colored light capable of piercing a massive tree and leaving marks from all five elements 255.
  • Initially rivaled a ten-thousand-year soul skill and ranked first among his companions’ single-target attacks 294.
  • Quickly defeated Yu Zhengjun in their rematch 810.
  • Grows with his cultivation, physical transformation, and spiritual understanding rather than remaining fixed 1543.
  • Wuneng renamed it “Destruction” because true annihilation remained beyond his attainment, reserving the stronger name as a future goal 1543.

Tianpeng Battle Armor

His third soul skill, also called Tianpeng Divine Armor, condenses luminous golden armor around his body 918 956.

  • Increases strength, defense, and endurance by 100% each when first documented 918.
  • Can be layered with Golden Bell Shield to withstand attacks from numerous directions 941.
  • Mitigated a Soul Saint’s Shadow Fang Spear without being completely pierced, although the impact still injured and threw him backward 1835.

Six Ding Divine Fire

His fourth soul skill produces divine flames that can be directed through an area or fused with his rake and secret arts 928 1384.

  • Disperses mirror-image clones and exposes concealed enemies 928.
  • Creates a fire domain through the Nine-Toothed Rake, destroying phantoms and weakening an enemy’s Soul Power Shield 928.
  • Combines with Prison Wheel to form Earth Fiend Prison Wheel, concentrating six emerald flames into his body and weapon 1384.
  • Is not immune to suppression: Skywater Academy’s extreme-cold fusion skill extinguished his flames 1562.

Golden Bell Shield

A defensive martial art that manifests a golden bell-shaped barrier, separate from his soul-ring skills 240 941.

  • Blocked Disaster Fish’s flaming tail sweep while he protected Chen Xiaojun 293.
  • Works alongside Tianpeng Battle Armor to anchor the frontline against Wolf Bandits 941 956.
  • Can be broken by stronger attacks; Nelson Astana shattered a hastily raised shield 957.

Breathing Techniques and Rake Combat

Wuneng adapts elemental breathing techniques to his heavy rake, combining power with deceptive timing and aerial movement 589 809.

Technique Documented use
Flame Breathing, Third Form — Blazing Aura, Myriad Forms Used during his first match against Yu Zhengjun 589.
Flame Breathing, Fourth Form — Blazing Flame Vortex Neutralized Yu Zhengjun’s lightning arrows 590.
Flame Breathing, Fifth Form — Flame Tiger Overpowered Yu Zhengjun’s attack and blasted him more than ten meters away 590.
Water Breathing, First Form — Water Surface Slash Used after deciding against a direct contest of force with an empowered Yu Zhengjun 591.
Water Breathing, Sixth Form — Twisting Vortex Exploited his flight against Ma Liang; suited to unstable footing or having no foothold 809.
Five-String Plucking Applied through the rake to generate surrounding whirlwinds 252.
Heaven-Rotating Eighteen Forms Discussed as one of his techniques; Chen Xiaojun suggested renaming it “Awei Eighteen Forms” 843.

Heavenly Wheel Secret Arts and Dharma Body

Wuneng uses wheel-based secret arts, including Rage Wheel, Prison Wheel, and Hell Wheel 957 1384 1406 1562.

  • Rage Wheel can accompany a massive Marshal Tianpeng Dharma Body, functioning as a Pseudo Martial Soul Avatar 1406.
  • With the Primordial Immortal Herb’s benefits and stacked enhancements, his all-out strike reached upper Soul Emperor might 1406.
  • That strike still failed against a Soul Saint-level spear attack, which broke apart his phantom rake 1406.

Perception, Formations, and Battlefield Control

  • Beast Type Seven-Space Perception: Detects minute disturbances in the air and locates surrounding people without direct contact 928.
  • Hexagram Magic Formation: Established a protective formation around companions absorbing soul rings 928.
  • Earthquake Wave: Used against Ruian Team’s combined magma and tremor assault 1382.
  • Three Thousand Weak Waters: A domain that immobilizes and drains opponents; it restrained five Elephant Armor fighters during Chang'an’s victory 1524.
  • Gravity and mountain phantoms: Intensified gravity and Weak Waters against the replicated Ice Phoenix, then detonated five mountain phantoms in a further attack 1565.
  • Martial Soul Fusion Skill: Shares a fusion skill with Gao Cuilan 1127 1171.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Refined-iron Nine-Toothed Rake — Made especially by Ding Dang for his pre-awakening weapon training 149.
  • Nine-Toothed Darksteel Rake — Wielded during the Ruian Team battle 1384.
  • Divine Wood Heart — Released wood-, water-, and fire-attribute soul power during his second-ring absorption before shattering 255.
  • Primordial Immortal Herb — A strength-oriented treasure selected because no suitable five-element immortal herb was available; increased strength and purified soul power 1382.
  • Handwoven bracelet — Given to him by Gao Cuilan during Chang'an Academy’s round-robin tournament 729.

Relationships

Family

  • Zhu Tianhao — Father; a Stone Armor Boar Soul Master and Chen Xun’s former chief guard and personal retainer 80 1139 1968.
  • Ding Dang — Mother; provided his first rake and taught him the Ding Family’s weapon techniques 149 1139.
  • Zhu Wukui — Eldest brother and Chen Jianjun’s attendant; protected and fought alongside Wuneng during the village attack 10 149 219.
  • Zhu Wuxin — Second elder sibling and Chen Yanwu’s attendant; Wuneng is visibly intimidated by her despite their affectionate sibling banter 219 827 843.
  • Zhu Hongzhen — Great-grandfather; regarded Wuneng as the Zhu Family’s hope after learning of his innate soul power. Wuneng was deeply distressed when Hongzhen suffered a serious martial-soul injury 230 1703.
  • Zhu Yanfeng — Senior paternal relative and mentor; repeatedly presses him to remember the Stone Armor Boar’s defensive inheritance rather than relying only on the rake 228 1976.
  • Ding Bingyuan — Maternal grandfather; involved in planning the development of Wuneng’s mutated martial soul 230.

Companions

  • Chen Xiaojun — Young master, childhood companion, and principal adviser. Chen Xiaojun regards him as a younger brother and guides his ring choices, techniques, and martial-soul development 595 810 1976.
  • Xiao Yi — Trusted companion and healer; treats him after combat and later unlocks substantial latent power through Life Force Awakening 595 1406 1524.
  • Dugu Fu — Close friend and fellow Personal Attendant. Together they are called the “Heng and Ha Generals”; their friendship includes constant teasing and candid discussions about Gao Cuilan 947 1139 2044.
  • Gao Cuilan — Romantic partner and martial-soul fusion partner. Both families supported their relationship before their emotional reconciliation, when she declared that she had chosen him for life 1071 1128 1178.
  • Ma Liang — Initially an arena opponent, later a trusted comrade. Ma Liang rescued him from Nelson Astana, after which they attacked together 809 919 957.
  • Yu Zhengjun — Rival turned friend. Wuneng’s superior experience and psychological tactics earned his respect, and their later interactions became easygoing despite continued challenges 594 804 810.
  • Chen Cong — Elder instructor who encouraged steady cultivation and approved the spiritual medicine that raised Wuneng to level twenty-six 552 588.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Early Battles and Public Recognition

Wuneng’s experience expanded through the Wolf Bandit raid, Vast Sea beast tide, Ji–Liu conflict, Soul Fighting City matches, and Ghost Wolf Gang battle. Repeated encounters with stronger opponents shaped his flexible, deceptive fighting style 589 809.

His contest with Yu Zhengjun brought him public recognition as Marshal Tianpeng. At level twenty-six and not yet ten years old, he pressured the older Soul Elder through weapon techniques, elemental breathing, flight, and psychological warfare. His later Heavenly Prodigy Ranking entry placed him eighty-eighth and praised his endurance and ability to fight above his level 588 590 592 595 808.

After defeating Ma Liang, he accepted Yu Zhengjun’s rematch and won quickly with his divine light. Chen Xiaojun fined him the entire thousand-gold wager for exposing such a powerful technique before a crowd, then recommended a Reverse Five Elements Configuration for his future rings 809 810.

Wolf Bandit Campaign

During the soul-hunting expedition, Wuneng protected ring-absorbing companions and exposed an enemy’s illusions with Six Ding Divine Fire. In later Wolf Bandit fighting, he held the vanguard through layered defenses, but Nelson Astana’s superior techniques badly wounded him. Ma Liang’s arrival allowed him to heal and rejoin the attack 928 941 957.

Gao Cuilan and Personal Growth

His relationship with Gao Cuilan developed from her open admiration and gifts into a partnership supported by both families. Despite their compatibility, he feared he was unworthy of her. Their misunderstanding eased when she confessed her lifelong commitment and admitted intercepting his love letters to prevent other girls from becoming rivals 595 729 1071 1128 1178.

Academy Tournament

The Primordial Immortal Herb substantially improved his strength before Chang'an’s tournament battles. He became a major frontline threat against Ruian Team and helped secure the victory over Elephant Armor Academy through Three Thousand Weak Waters 1382 1384 1524.

His strongest attacks still had clear limits. A Soul Saint-level spear defeated his enhanced Dharma Body strike, while Skywater Academy’s extreme cold suppressed his fire. Even after he and Ma Liang badly wounded the replicated Ice Phoenix, it recovered and counterattacked 1406 1562 1565.

Underground Fighting and Further Training

During later fighting, Gao Cuilan protected him from an agility attacker; a subsequent Soul Saint ambush injured him despite Tianpeng Battle Armor. His underground injuries continued to trouble him well afterward 1831 1835 2044.

As his sixth ring approached, Chen Xiaojun identified a weakness in his development: he had not comprehended his own intent and had neglected the boar half of his martial soul. He advised separate training of both components and recommended a foundational defensive skill such as Stone Armor Shield or Earth Armor. Zhu Yanfeng agreed to supply the family’s soul-beast and skill-acquisition records 1976.
