Ch. 42The fire was catching

The narrator learned from Edgar that a village north of Castle Morne had been afflicted by the frenzied flame, leading him to suspect another Tarnished was pursuing its questline and had killed Irina for that purpose. He decided not to interfere with the quest, reaffirmed his plan to save friendly NPCs, and told Edgar he knew where Morne’s stolen sword was.

  • The narrator met Edgar at Castle Morne and learned that the servants had rebelled, though the uprising had begun only two days earlier.
  • Edgar told the narrator that a mountain village north of the castle had suffered an illness that made people’s eyes feel as if they were burning.
  • The narrator recognized the illness as frenzied flame sickness and suspected the other Tarnished had killed Irina to turn her into Hyetta and pursue the frenzied flame ending.
  • The narrator considered killing Edgar to prevent the other Tarnished from obtaining an eye for Hyetta, then realized the quest could continue without Edgar and abandoned the idea.
  • Edgar explained that he had stayed to protect Morne’s priceless sword, but someone had already taken it.
  • The narrator told Edgar that he knew where the Grafted Blade Greatsword was.

  • Lion thanked Edgar and apologized before turning to ash and smoke.

Ch. 45The Great Retreat from Castle Morne

Ch. 46Making plans

After returning to Oridys's Rise, Zero questioned Melina about the Frenzied Flame and weighed his next steps against a rival Tarnished seeking the same resources. He decided to grow stronger before entering Stormveil and used his runes to raise his attributes, aiming to reach the castle within a week.

  • Zero and Melina traveled to Oridys's Rise, where he discovered that grace dispelled his drowsiness.
  • Zero asked whether Melina could sense the Frenzied Flame, and she explained that her earlier warning about Irina had come from information in the Erdtree's fallen leaves.
  • Zero considered seeking the Wondrous Physick Flask and other resources, while Melina offered to take him to the Roundtable Hold.
  • Zero declined to visit the Roundtable Hold for now and chose to scout Fort Haight, visit the Third Church of Marika, and explore beginner caves before heading to Stormveil.
  • Melina helped Zero spend his runes to increase his strength and agility, and he resolved to reach Stormveil within a week and challenge Margit.

Ch. 49A chance encounter
