The innkeeper practically ground his teeth as he spoke of these things.
Without spending even a moment mourning the innkeeper's plight, Chu Mu shifted his perspective to his Doppelganger.
He said slowly to Stelle:
"Sampo really did come to the Xianzhou."
Stelle looked at the Doppelganger opposite her and said helplessly:
"You went quiet for that long just to say that? Pretty sure I was the one who told you! Please don't repeat what I just said back to me in such a serious tone! Stealing my words and using them on the spot is a bit ridiculous! The original speaker is standing right in front of you! Show me some respect! Thank you!"
"What are you imagining?" the Doppelganger said mildly. "I'm giving you a definite answer, confirming the intelligence you provided earlier."
"If you hadn't been standing there spacing out the whole time, I might actually have believed you," Stelle muttered.
After a pause, she continued:
"So you thought about it for ages and concluded that Sampo really is on the Xianzhou. What next?"
Rather than answering directly, the Doppelganger asked:
"What was the highest payment you've ever received for a commission?"
"Heh, I'm pretty good at making money! Unless it pays a few tens of thousands-no, a hundred thousand Credits-I won't lift a finger!" Stelle declared proudly, hands on her hips.
Money she earned herself gave her the most confidence!
Of course, Stelle envied Chu Mu even more for being able to spend other people's money with such confidence.
Is this what shamelessly living off someone else looks like? Sigh.
Stelle felt a little dejected.
Because she had lied.
Not every job earned her Credits.
Often, commissions barely paid anything at all, perhaps just a few little components or a cup of Joy Tea.
Better than nothing.
