Whoosh!
The four of them appeared in front of the Determination Extractor. Clearly, no one had been here in a long time.
Many of the light bulbs had burned out, making this place look even more dilapidated than the True Lab back in their worlds.
Looking at the enormous goat skull before him, even the somewhat vacant Lust couldn't help widening his eyes a little.
"This is..."
"...the Determination Extractor, a machine that can extract the trait of determination from human souls."
Killer picked up where he left off.
"Lust, didn't you say earlier that Gaster extracted the trait of lust from human souls?"
She pointed at the enormous machine.
"This is the machine he used. Back where we're from, this machine really does extract determination, but things are probably a little different here."
Then again, how could it still be called the Determination Extractor if it didn't extract determination? It ought to be called the Lust Extractor now.
"That's right. This machine can extract traits from souls."
Murder nodded.
"That Dr. Gaster really is incredibly talented. He built this enormous machine single-handedly."
"But... getting back to the point, do you know why we brought you here?"
Lust shook his head honestly.
"We're planning to... use this machine to help you clear out... the lust in the souls of every monster in the Underground."
Killer spoke slowly, emphasizing each word.
This clearly frightened Lust.
"Buddy... are you... kidding me?"
Lust asked Killer uncertainly. Clearly, he hoped she would say yes.
"She's not kidding."
At some point, Murder had begun typing on the keyboard beside the Determination Extractor, entering numerous strange characters into its database.
"As soon as we heard that the monsters here had all had their souls contaminated by some kind of trait, we came up with a countermeasure."
Insanity teleported onto the top of the Determination Extractor and adjusted some of the switches.
"Our countermeasure is... to use this Determination Extractor to extract the lust injected into the souls of every living being in this world."
"But... it isn't that simple."
Murder changed tack.
"This Determination Extractor... in each of our three worlds, we probably all helped build it. As one of its builders, I know very well what this machine's biggest drawback is-it can only extract soul traits from one living being at a time."
"Not only that,"
Killer added.
"It draws the traits directly out of a living being's soul. In other words... if this machine is used on a monster, it'll probably suck out the monster's soul along with them."
"...I see..."
Lust felt a little helpless.
"Then... is there still a way to extract the lust?"
"Of course. Why else do you think we brought you here?"
Murder remained unruffled. All he had been doing was adjusting the parameters and preparing to start the machine. Before starting it, he first consulted Killer and Insanity.
"Killer, Insanity, what do you think? I'm planning to use the extraction molecules inside the Determination Extractor, with the lust factor as a guide, to construct a specifically targeted nano-enchantment mesh and attach it to the Core's ozonated water generator."
"Sounds good. Let's go with your plan."
"Got it."
Insanity jumped down from above, having apparently finished adjusting the relevant settings.
Killer also stepped forward and began working at another screen.
"Lust, do you know where the first human's soul is kept? We need a little of the lust trait."
Murder asked Lust, figuring that the person who lived in this universe would naturally know it better.
"Yeah... come on, buddy. I actually do know where that soul is kept."
Lust took Murder's arm, ready to take a shortcut.
Before leaving, Murder glanced back and saw both Killer and Insanity wink at him.
Was that their way of telling me they could handle the preparations?
Murder winked back at them, then left the True Lab with Lust.
