Linde was dumbfounded.

He had never imagined that Undyne would block the very route they had to take.

Undyne seemed absolutely furious, launching a ferocious attack the moment she saw them.

"Wait! Can't we talk this out? What's going on?!" Linde shouted anxiously.

"NGAAAAAAAH!" Undyne thrust a spear at them. "How dare you hurt Asgore!"

Linde was genuinely baffled. When had he ever hurt Asgore?!

"Alphys's history books told me that humans use illusions to control people's minds." As Undyne spoke, she turned the two children's souls green, and spears flew at them from every direction.

Linde froze for a moment and nearly got skewered. "But what does that have to do with anything?"

"After Asgore returned to the Throne from Snowdin yesterday, he publicly ordered the monsters to treat humans kindly. They didn't understand, but they trusted him and chose to obey. I'm the only one who knows why he did it... you used an illusion on him! Didn't you?!" Undyne glared at the two children through gritted teeth.

"No, you've got it all wrong... wait! Please hear us out!" Frisk looked deeply wronged as they blocked the incoming spears.

"I have nothing to say to you. Die! NGAAAAAAAH!" Undyne erupted again, her body even beginning to lose its solidity.

Linde panicked. She's about to turn into Undyne the Undying! Whether she succeeds or not, she'll melt!

In desperation, he quickly sent out the character for "freeze," immobilizing Undyne before anything could really happen to her.

"Uh... what do we do..." Linde sat down where he was and racked his brains.

"What's wrong with her?" Frisk asked.

"We humans are so strong because we have determination inside us. Monsters don't have determination, and once they get it, they melt... determination is about to form inside her... so I froze her as quickly as I could. It'll only last five minutes. We have to think of a way to save her, fast," Linde explained.

"Hmm..." Frisk fell into thought too.

Just then, as though something had suddenly occurred to him, Linde quietly cast "Haste" on himself, then spurred the determination within him and dashed behind them at an astonishing speed-

"Ah!" Caught completely off guard, Flowey was pulled up by the roots.

But Linde wasn't done yet. He shouted, "Sans! Stop hiding! It's urgent! Give us a hand!"

Sans reluctantly emerged from behind a nearby rock. "Ah... you really are..."

That still wasn't the end of it. Linde looked around. "Doctor Gaster, if you're here, if you can hear me, please come out and help us."

"Oh dear... there's just no getting around you. You guess right every time..." Gaster emerged from somewhere too.

Sans and Gaster exchanged a glance and nodded to each other.

"Hey! You idiot! What do you think you're doing?!" Flowey twisted in Linde's hand, trying to break free.

Linde showed him no courtesy and punched him outright. "Shut up."

Flowey glared viciously at Linde. "Fine, I'll shut up."

"Well, I actually wanted to ask a few rather unusual beings to help me figure out what to do about Undyne's determination," Linde explained to the three of them.

Flowey curled his lip disdainfully. "You idiot. Why not just load your save?"

Linde shook his head. "No. With the way Undyne has misunderstood us, that would only treat the symptoms, not the cause."

"Tch." Flowey disdainfully shifted into a more comfortable position in Linde's hand. "Then I've got nothing."

Flowey: (˃̣̣̥᷄⌓˂̣̣̥᷅)

After teaching Flowey a lesson, Linde turned to Sans and Gaster. "You two... uh..."

Linde was suddenly at a loss for words. Sans had actually fallen asleep standing up!

Gaster chuckled. "He certainly is an interesting fellow, just as you said... all right, here you go. This is what you gave me back then. I'll return it to you now."

With that, Gaster took out a syringe filled with black liquid. Its physical consistency was rather similar to that of Linde's own syringe of determination.

"This substance can give monsters bodies capable of holding determination. You know how to use it." Having said that, Gaster waved and vanished along with Sans.

With the immobilizing effect about to wear off, Linde tossed Flowey aside, gritted his teeth, stepped forward, and plunged the needle into Undyne's arm.

Meanwhile, Sans and Gaster sat beside the telescope in Waterfall.

"Three hundred years ago, Linde told me you were a very interesting and clever young fellow. I've finally met you today," Gaster said with a smile.

"He mentioned you to me thirty years ago too..." Then, unwilling to give up, Sans asked, "Are you sure you don't want to try this telescope?"

"No, thank you."
