Carlret hurried forward and destroyed the gun in the man's hand with a magical fireball.

He had no idea what was going on. He simply felt that a grown man trying to kill such an innocent-looking child was rather cruel...

More importantly, perhaps because of Lairak, he had a special affection for human mages.

"Mind your own business!" the man snarled.

Clearly, the man specialized only in assassination. His reactions were somewhat slow, and it was obvious he had little combat experience.

Linde lay on the ground, struggling to roll over as he tried with both hands to pull the iron needle out of his chest.

Frisk charged forward again. Though she wasn't particularly good at fighting, she had more determination inside her than ordinary humans, and her control over it was better as well.

Because of that, Frisk was confident she could hold off the enemy before her for a while.

She acted on that thought immediately, drawing on the determination within her. In a flash, she moved behind the man and kicked him in the back.

Sure enough, the man couldn't react fast enough. The sudden kick sent the Book of Prophecy flying from his hand, and he nearly lost his balance.

The Book of Prophecy landed beside Linde. He hadn't noticed any of this yet and was still enduring the pain as he pulled the spike from his chest.

This pain was really nothing. What he'd suffered outside Sans's laboratory had been real pain-at least a few hundred times worse than this.

So he didn't hesitate and pulled at the spike with all his might.

He suspected the spike was preventing him from using magic, so he had to get it out.

Finally, with a pop, Linde yanked the spike free, and blood gushed from the wound.
