John watched Tony go from flying through the sky to clinging to the nuclear missile, and fell into thought.
Didn't he send the missile into the portal?
This didn't match the plot he knew. The missile was about to fall.
Though John would have been quite happy to see New York nuked into peace, the Avengers and quite a few people he knew were here.
Drawing his wand and waving it, John appeared on the missile. "Need a hand?"
Tony stared in horror at his dwindling power reserves. He was dumbfounded.
Thinking it over, the greater number of Chitauri soldiers had forced him to expend more energy.
Now he didn't have enough power to send the missile up.
Hearing John's voice, Tony hastily said, "John? Help me. I'm running out of power."
John clung to the outside of the missile with one hand in a thoroughly unscientific fashion, then extended his wand and told Tony, "I can't recharge you, but I can make flying easier."
Tony figured that would work. As long as the thrust needed to push the missile was reduced, he could still send it up.
"Do it!"
Tony braced himself for death.
John waved his wand and cast an essential Hogwarts spell.
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
The Levitation Charm made objects float as though they had lost their gravity.
It could also reduce the effects of gravity on those objects.
Tony felt the missile above him grow lighter and immediately went full throttle, pushing it toward the portal.
Under everyone's gaze, the missile was sent into the portal.
The soldiers emerging from it tried to stop them, but John stood on the missile, sending streaks of red light from his wand and knocking the Chitauri soldiers down.
"You don't have armor, John!" Tony shouted anxiously. "Get out of here!"
