The Haul and Heading Home

The first light of dawn lifted the veil of night, spilling harsh morning light over the world and ushering in a new day.

Yang Bo sat in the car with a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth. He exhaled a thin stream of smoke and looked at the others through the haze. "Let's go. Drop me off at Central Park. These guys won't come out during the day!"

Ordinary vampires in Marvel couldn't withstand direct sunlight yet. During the day, they would only hide in dark corners.

He had spent the entire night killing seven vampires in total, far fewer than he had expected.

The three others in the car perked up at Yang Bo's words. They hadn't slept all night, and although they were still excited, the fatigue in their bodies made them eager to go home and get some sleep.

With a light flick, he sent the cigarette butt arcing onto the road, and the car headed toward Central Park.

A little over ten minutes later, the car came to a smooth stop beside Central Park. Leo, who was driving, asked, "Sir, are we coming back tonight?"

Leo and the other two had now gotten a taste of the rewards. They had helped kill six vampires in one night, and their haul had been substantial.

Yang Bo glanced at Leo and smiled. "Of course. Take care of the things you got last night, then come pick me up here tonight. Also, find a way to buy me a SIM card!"

With that, he opened the door, got out, and headed into the park. Leo and the others drove straight off.

The sun had only just risen, and the chill of dawn lingered in the park. Every so often, a few birds he couldn't name flew across the sky. Yang Bo looked at the lush green grass around him. If it hadn't still been covered in dew, he would have liked nothing more than to lie down on the ground and get some proper sleep.

Despite staying awake all night, he felt no physical fatigue after activating digitization. He took a loaf of bread from his inventory and slowly ate it, the fragrance of wheat filling his mouth.

"It's a bit of a waste. No matter what flavor the bread is, once it's digitized, it all turns into ordinary bread. Luckily, it tastes pretty good, and it stacks."

After filling his hunger bar, he entered the woods and headed toward home. Suddenly, he noticed the thick grass covering the ground around him.

"I wonder if breaking grass will drop seeds. If it does, I won't have to worry about food anymore!"

Although he now had over eleven hundred dollars on him, he was someone who knew how to live frugally. He couldn't squander it. That money had to be spent where it counted.

He raised his fist and punched the grass on the ground. A square meter of grass instantly shrank to only three or four centimeters tall, as though it had been cut by a lawn mower.

"Uh, no seeds dropped..."

He raised his hand and continued clearing the weeds around him. Soon, he had cleared a flat stretch of grass. Just as he had expected, breaking weeds really could drop seeds. After clearing several hundred square meters, he had gathered a stack of seeds.

Following his memory, he walked into the woods and found his home. Looking at the block on the ground whose color differed slightly from the surrounding grass, Yang Bo rubbed his brow in frustration.

"Putting the exit here makes it too obvious. It's all grass, but the color difference is still pretty noticeable!"

The dirt block from last night had now become a grass block as the grass spread over it, but its bright green surface looked out of place amid the dark green grass around it.

After thinking it over, Yang Bo took out his shovel and dug up the grass block, revealing the passage underneath. He jumped in, then reached back and sealed the entrance.

"I'll expand the house a bit today and plant some wheat. I'll deal with the entrance when I have time. If all else fails, I'll just dig a tunnel out to the sewers."

It wasn't as though the sewers of New York couldn't accommodate one more resident.

First, he chopped down the oak trees that had already grown and expanded the tree farm again. That way, he wouldn't have to worry about running short of wood.

He took a steel I-beam from his inventory. He had picked it up while passing a construction site. Unfortunately, it couldn't be converted directly into iron ingots, but now that it was in his hands, there was naturally no reason to put it back.

"These iron ingots are a problem. Am I really going to have to get them custom-made at a steel mill?"

Yang Bo scratched his head in frustration. Buying steel would cost far too much. The little money dropped by the vampires he killed simply wasn't enough.

Just then, he suddenly heard footsteps. He quickly turned to look and saw a hunter from the Vampire Mod appear at the edge of the tree farm, wandering aimlessly.

The hunter wore a black tailcoat and a hat, with a stylish cape hanging down his back. Unfortunately, he was still a blocky man.

At the sight of him, Yang Bo's initial tension instantly turned to excitement. He ran over and looked at the Vampire Hunter before him, who appeared to be about 1.8 meters tall.

"Vampire Hunters can actually spawn here! I can raise my hunter level!"

Leveling up as a hunter before level five was very simple. All he needed to do was find a Vampire Hunter who had spawned in the wilderness, start a conversation, and hand over the requested items. That would raise his hunter class level and grant skill points with which to acquire new skills.

He opened the interface. There was only one slot, with a line of large text above it.

[For training, please submit 1 bottle of vampire blood.]

Without hesitation, Yang Bo took a bottle of vampire blood from his inventory and placed it in the slot. Once he confirmed the submission, the text above changed.

[To receive training, please pay 5 bottles of vampire blood.]

Yang Bo looked at the only two bottles of vampire blood left in his inventory and sighed helplessly. Vampire blood only had a chance to drop when a vampire was killed with a Stake; it wasn't guaranteed. He had killed seven vampires last night, but unfortunately, only three bottles had dropped!

"I still need to find a place where vampires gather!"

Since he couldn't level up, Yang Bo decided to expand his home first, then head out to see what he could convert into iron ingots.

After a little over an hour of work, his home had undergone a complete transformation. The cramped, gloomy basement had now been remodeled into a two-level layout, and it no longer felt dark and dreary.

Yang Bo clapped the dust off his hands and looked at his handiwork with a broad smile, nodding in satisfaction.

"I'll go out and buy a few things first. A single bed, for starters. Sitting on the floor every day isn't going to work."

He climbed up the ladder and listened carefully. Hearing no other sounds, he dug away the grass block above the tunnel and jumped out.

"Phew, nobody here!"

Yang Bo let out a breath, sealed the hole, and headed toward the outskirts of Central Park.

"It'd be safer to move the exit somewhere else. Otherwise, this is just too much trouble!"
