Yang Bo eagerly opened the Hunter Skill Menu. His skill points had risen from zero to two. After looking over the skill descriptions, he wasted little time choosing the most practical ones.
[Hunter Weapon Table] and [Swift as the Wind].
The Hunter Weapon Table could craft Hunter-exclusive weapons. However, making large pieces of equipment such as Hunter-exclusive battleaxes, mechanical crossbows, and armor would consume an entire bucket of lava. Even simple items like crossbow bolts and pitchforks required one-fifth of a bucket.
That was why Yang Bo had been so eager to ask Coulson to help him find lava, even if it meant owing him a favor.
[Swift as the Wind] increased Yang Bo's attack speed again. The intervals between his attacks were getting shorter and shorter, and the numerical damage he could deal in the same amount of time kept rising.
He headed toward the exit, but after just two steps, Yang Bo looked down at his familiar legs in confusion and muttered, "Am I moving way faster now? Does leveling up increase movement speed too?"
He did not dwell on it. He had nothing to use as a reference, so he had no way to calculate how much faster he had become.
"As long as I haven't gotten slower!"
When he walked out of Central Park, Coulson was still sitting where he had been earlier, only now he was eating a hamburger. Compared with Yang Bo, Coulson looked much more refined. Noticing Yang Bo's gaze, Coulson looked out through the window, smiled, and nodded, quietly picking up the pace of his eating.
By the time Yang Bo was about to enter the restaurant, Coulson had already polished off his hamburger and stood up to walk over to him.
"Everything's been arranged. All you need to do now is come to the airport with me!"
"Thanks a lot!"
Coulson opened the car door for Yang Bo himself. He was not doing it for Yang Bo's sake; he was simply worried about his "wife," Laura.
That was right. Coulson had a thing for objects, and this bright red convertible was his pride and joy. He had even gone out of his way to name the car Laura.
He closed the door gently, his heart aching as he silently thought, No. Next time I go on a mission, I'm taking one of the bureau's cars, no matter what!
My poor Laura...
As the car rolled down the road, Yang Bo finally got to experience what a steady ride really meant. It was clearly a sports car, yet Coulson managed to drive it like an antique. Still, Yang Bo was in no hurry. He sat obediently in his seat, lest this man obsessed with his "wife" hold something against him.
The trip to the airport was a little boring, so Yang Bo chatted idly with Coulson. After an hour, they arrived at New York's airport. Yang Bo thought:
If Blade were driving, it would've taken half an hour at most!
After parking the car, Coulson led Yang Bo to an apron, where a black Quinjet Transport sat gleaming with a metallic sheen. Everything about it looked high-tech. All it lacked was "advanced tech" painted across its fuselage.
Wait... S.H.I.E.L.D. already has Quinjet Transports this early? It really lives up to its reputation as a major global organization. Its technology might not match Wakanda's, but it definitely has plenty of things that blow modern technology out of the water!
The people aboard were already ready. As soon as Yang Bo and Coulson boarded, the aircraft closed its boarding hatch. The turbofan engines on either side, which resembled electric fans, began spinning rapidly. The aircraft quickly lifted off and headed toward Hawaii.
Like a country bumpkin visiting the city, Yang Bo stared at the aircraft's interior with shining eyes as the two of them made their way to a lounge.
As soon as they sat down, Coulson smiled and said, "What do you think? Like it? Join us, and you can ride in this aircraft regularly!"
Yang Bo rolled his eyes at Coulson. "I like beautiful women too. What, do you hand those out as well?"
To his surprise, Coulson actually nodded.
"Our organization has plenty of outstanding female members selected from countries all over the world. As an Eastern saying goes, proximity gives you the advantage. If you join us, I can personally arrange for you to have a beautiful female partner! Of course, the rest will depend on your own abilities!"
Yang Bo's mouth fell slightly open. No wonder S.H.I.E.L.D. had so many capable people. With an attitude like this, they did not even bother with the stick; they simply stuffed your mouth full of carrots. Their strategy was right out in the open, using their overwhelming advantages to win you over.
"Does everyone else get this treatment too?"
The moment he asked, Yang Bo wanted to slap himself across the face. What a pointless question. If everyone received the same treatment, S.H.I.E.L.D. might as well shut down.
Coulson smiled. "Of course not. Ordinary agents have to go through round after round of selection before they can join our Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. Usually, only people with special abilities receive a range of preferential benefits..."
At that point, Coulson suddenly paused and looked at Yang Bo earnestly. "But you're different. Aren't we friends? Of course I'll get you the best possible treatment!"
Coulson's words stirred something in Yang Bo. At that moment, he genuinely felt that Coulson was a great guy. He really was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent through and through: he knew just what to say and got things done efficiently. No wonder people online had said that without Coulson, the Avengers would have fallen apart long ago.
He took a pack of cigarettes out of his backpack and was about to pull one out, but then remembered he was on an aircraft and sheepishly stuffed it back into his pocket. Seeing this, Coulson smiled and said, "Could I have one? I haven't smoked in a long time. It wouldn't hurt to relax a little!"
As he spoke, he pressed a button on the wall. A faint sound of air being drawn out followed, presumably from the lounge's ventilation system.
Holy shit, this is ridiculous. Being around Coulson is so damn comfortable. Maybe I should find a way to poach him!
S.H.I.E.L.D. looked impressive at the moment, but that was only on the surface. In truth, it was riddled with holes, with Hydra having infiltrated every corner. Yang Bo even suspected that, apart from those few well-known senior agents, everyone else in S.H.I.E.L.D. belonged to Hydra.
Still, the idea of recruiting Coulson only flashed through his mind. Yang Bo did not believe his personal charm was enough to convince S.H.I.E.L.D.'s next director to work for him.
He took out the cigarettes and lit one for Coulson, then lit his own, took a deep drag, and gently exhaled toward the vent.
