Background / History

Blade’s mother, Miriam, was bitten by Deacon Frost shortly before giving birth to him, leaving Blade half human and half vampire. Initially described as having died after his birth, Miriam is later revealed by Yang Bo to have survived as a vampire at Frost’s side 11 30 31.

Whistler took Blade in when he was young and taught him survival skills, becoming his mentor, partner, and adoptive father. The two operate from a workshop in an abandoned factory, where Whistler administers serum to suppress Blade’s blood thirst 25 26.

Blade also works with S.H.I.E.L.D., although the arrangement does not provide him with a fully supported lifestyle. He helps the organization eliminate inhuman monsters, while it handles official trouble on his behalf. His credentials identify him as a level-eight agent—an organizational rank, not a supernatural power level 32.

After New York’s vampires flee, Blade leaves to scout other cities for the Hunter Guild. In Washington, he finds a substantial vampire population and suitable recruits, including Whistler’s daughter and her companions. His work helps expand their campaign beyond the original partnership with Yang Bo 67 91 134.

Despite his earlier refusal to embrace vampire cravings, Blade eventually accepts Yang Bo’s offer to acquire the Minecraft-derived Vampire class. Bat Transformation is a major incentive, and Yang Bo assures him that the change can be reversed if he no longer wants it. The Rallying Altar raises him to vampire level four, greatly improving his combat strength 94 95.

Blade and Karen later become a couple and expect a child. When Yang Bo reunites with him during the mutant-vampire crisis, Blade confirms that Karen is three months pregnant 175.

Appearance

  • Young Black man, first encountered walking through Times Square in daylight 11.
  • All-black clothing, including a black trench coat and sunglasses 11.
  • Silvery-white sword, drawn from his coat during the first apartment raid and carried on his back in later battles 12 19 49.
  • Distinctive white-toothed grin, displayed when agreeing to hunt vampires and preparing for combat 24 27.
  • Large, lean, pitch-black bat form, acquired after his Vampire class change 95.
  • Black leather outfit with sunglasses, worn during the mutant-vampire crisis, with a special Silver Longsword and metal crossbow carried on his back 175.
  • Powered armor, worn in the vampire stronghold battles and later against Corvus Glaive 176 177 196.

Personality

Blade’s defining priority is exterminating vampires. He normally acts on leads immediately rather than stockpiling information, and shared commitment to vampire hunting is enough to earn his friendship. Although curious about Yang Bo’s unusual abilities, he respects his new companion’s secrets instead of demanding explanations 13 24.

He refuses to treat his vampire heritage as permission to surrender to bloodlust. Even when Yang Bo offers a heart as a possible route to greater strength, Blade rejects it rather than risk becoming ruled by desire. His determination to remain human in conduct persists despite his inability to become biologically human 25 26.

Blade is confident, blunt, and capable of dry humor. He openly boasts about being more frightening than vampires and matter-of-factly explains that looting enemies helps fund his work. He also recognizes debts: after Yang Bo helps protect Whistler, Blade agrees to leave Frost alive for Yang Bo’s experiment despite his personal hatred of him 17 19 31.

His loyalty to Yang Bo extends beyond vampire hunts. When Yang Bo reports being attacked, Blade immediately gets out of bed, arms himself, and drives out to help, continuing to ask for his location even after Yang Bo says assistance is unnecessary 51.

Blade’s desire to fly eventually outweighs his hesitation about a Vampire class change, provided that the choice remains reversible. He is eager to test his new powers independently once he obtains them 94 95.

He can consider tactical cooperation with vampires when human lives are at stake. During the mutant-vampire crisis, his concern is that the infected creatures’ enormous blood requirements will drive them to attack humans after exhausting the ordinary vampire population 175.

Karen’s pregnancy brings out a visibly cheerful side of him, although Bor complains that he has stopped accompanying him on daily hunts. Blade also rejects Yang Bo’s teasing suggestion that he keep Olena around and notices Yang Bo trying to record his reaction 175 180.

Abilities & Skills

Half-Vampire Physiology

Blade possesses vampire-derived physical advantages without several of the weaknesses associated with ordinary vampires in his original half-vampire state 18 26.

  • Superhuman strength, sharper hearing and smell, and faster healing than an ordinary human 26 42.
  • Night vision, allowing him to navigate and fight inside the dark vampire bar 19.
  • Original resistance to sunlight, silver, and garlic; Yang Bo’s hunter senses do not register the usual vampire stench on him. His later Minecraft-derived Vampire class introduces additional weaknesses, including sunlight vulnerability at level four 18 94 95.
  • Blood thirst remains a vulnerability, capable of eroding his reason unless controlled 25.
  • Bat Transformation initially requested, later acquired: after seeing Bor transform, Blade asks Yang Bo for the ability. He subsequently obtains it through his Vampire class change 47 95.

Minecraft-Derived Vampire Abilities

Blade acquires the Vampire class under Yang Bo’s guidance and reaches vampire level four through the Rallying Altar. This substantially increases his fighting ability, but it does not establish that he has also acquired the guild members’ Vampire Hunter class 94 95.

  • Bat Transformation — becomes a large black bat capable of flight and speech, and can return to his humanoid form 95 109.
  • Teleportation and Regeneration — Yang Bo identifies these powers, alongside Blade’s swordsmanship and marksmanship, when assessing his improved combat potential 100.
  • Further vampire upgrades — later narration credits his vampire upgrades and powerful skills with allowing him to hold his own against Corvus Glaive; his exact later vampire level is not stated 196.
  • Class-related drawbacks — Yang Bo explains that the class is vulnerable to garlic before level four and becomes vulnerable to sunlight at level four. He also warns that a vampire will not defeat a Vampire Hunter of equal level 94.
  • Advancement requirements — further advancement beyond his initial level four requires an upgraded Rallying Altar and additional materials 95.

Yang Bo also describes Bat Summoning, Invisibility, Night Vision, and other powers as potential benefits of the Vampire class. The offer alone does not confirm that Blade personally acquires every listed skill 94.

Swordsmanship and Marksmanship

Blade routinely overwhelms ordinary vampires with rapid, lethal attacks 19 49.

  • Severs a vampire’s arm and thigh to leave Yang Bo the finishing blow 19.
  • Kills a vampire with a precise shot using a silver-plated bullet containing concentrated garlic juice 18.
  • Uses two guns simultaneously during the attack on his safe house 28.
  • Kills four or five vampires with a few sword movements during a later raid 49.
  • Uses a returning silver-laced throwing blade against fleeing enemies 49.
  • Responds immediately to a Piglin crossbow ambush by firing his gun, although the shots inflict little damage on the Nether enemy 97.
  • Fires a rapid barrage of crossbow bolts during the mutant-vampire battle, killing almost one enemy per shot. The narration attributes this performance to bonus damage against vampires, without depicting a separate Vampire Hunter class change 178.
  • Uses his sword, with Bor’s assistance, to prevent other mutant vampires from interfering with Yang Bo’s battle against Norma 179.
  • Holds his own against Corvus Glaive through a combination of combat skill, vampire upgrades, and special abilities, despite the destruction of most of his armor 194 196.

Vampire Tracking and Investigation

Years of hunting give Blade practical knowledge of vampire behavior, hideouts, and human servants 17 19 20.

  • Detects vampires by scent, though he cannot see Yang Bo’s system-generated targeting outlines 20.
  • Recognizes Deacon Frost’s ownership mark on Officer Krieger’s neck 17.
  • Identifies an exterior vampire mark indicating a nearby Safe House 19.
  • Distinguishes vampire familiars from vampires and generally avoids killing the still-human followers 17 20.
  • Uses interrogation and searches to pursue leads on Frost 17 21.
  • Identifies Washington as a city with a large vampire population and locates potential Hunter Guild recruits there 91.
  • Obtains intelligence from a vampire faction about infected mutant vampires and recognizes the danger their feeding requirements pose to humans 175.

Driving

  • Weaves through traffic at speed and performs a controlled drift while heading to collect Yang Bo 24.
  • Pursues Frost by car and rams him at Yang Bo’s direction 29.
  • Is less comfortable driving a box truck, which limits his usual aggressive driving during Bor’s transport 42.

Nether Exploration

  • Enters the Nether through Yang Bo’s Portal without experiencing discomfort, demonstrating that he can survive its environment 96.
  • Accompanies Yang Bo toward a Piglin Bastion Remnant and encounters Ghasts, Magma Cubes, Striders, and Piglins 96 97.
  • Helps Yang Bo kill two Endermen before returning through the Portal; their expedition yields three Ender Pearls 99.

Guild Organization and Instruction

  • Scouts cities and finds suitable recruits for Yang Bo’s Hunter Guild 67 91.
  • Serves as Skye’s teacher and later accompanies her on vampire hunts 110 159.
  • Helps organize a citywide operation involving nearly a hundred Vampire Hunters during the mutant-vampire crisis 175.
  • Reports on the cleanup of the vampire stronghold and is left in charge of the site by Yang Bo 180.

Power Progression

Stage / Advancement Development Limitations / Notes Citation
Original half-vampire state Possesses enhanced strength, senses, healing, and night vision while resisting ordinary vampires’ sunlight, silver, and garlic weaknesses Still experiences blood thirst; S.H.I.E.L.D. level eight is an agent rank, not a supernatural level 18 19 26 32
Magical milk treatment Yang Bo’s milk relaxes his body and mind and removes the offered heart’s immediate appeal Does not make him human or establish a permanent power increase 25 26
Interest in Bat Transformation Requests Bor’s newly demonstrated flight ability, even offering to endure lightning to obtain it No ability is granted at this stage 47
Vampire class change; vampire level four Accepts the Minecraft-derived Vampire class and is raised to level four through the Rallying Altar; gains Bat Transformation and a major combat-strength increase Further advancement initially requires an altar upgrade and additional materials; Yang Bo warns of sunlight vulnerability at level four 94 95
Expanded vampire skill set Teleportation and Regeneration are identified among his abilities No new numerical level is specified 100
Powered-armor deployment Fights in Iron Man-style armor, combining protection with his sword and crossbow attacks against vampires and mutants Yang Bo had previously shown him an Anti-Vampire Armor design 101 176 177 178
Later vampire upgrades and alien combat Vampire upgrades and powerful skills allow him to hold his own against Corvus Glaive Exact vampire level remains unstated; Corvus destroys most of his armor, though the aircraft beneath his feet remains functional 194 196

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Specially made sword / katana — his primary close-combat weapon; retained when he gives Yang Bo the rest of his vampire-fighting gear 12 19 23.
  • Modified pistol — uses specialized silver ammunition and has a greatly enlarged magazine; later used by Yang Bo until its ammunition runs out 23 30.
  • Silver-plated, garlic-filled bullets — destroy a vampire struck in the head 18.
  • Silver-laced returning throwing blade — kills fleeing vampires before returning to his hand 49.
  • Ultraviolet flashlight — prepared as a means of threatening Bor during questioning 21.
  • Black trench coat — stores much of his hunting equipment; handed to Yang Bo during the archive escape 23.
  • Blood-thirst suppression serum — administered by Whistler; increasingly ineffective and painful to use 25.
  • Yang Bo’s magical milk — relaxes Blade’s body and mind and removes the heart’s immediate appeal, although he remains hungry. It does not change his half-vampire nature 25 26.
  • Black Dodge muscle car — used for transport and pursuit; destroyed during the confrontation with Frost’s squad, then later described as repaired when Blade drives out to help Yang Bo 17 30 51.
  • Special Silver Longsword — carried on his back during the mutant-vampire crisis and used in the stronghold fighting 175 176 179.
  • Metal crossbow — carried alongside his sword and used to deliver rapid, lethal volleys against mutant vampires 175 178.
  • Anti-Vampire Armor design — Yang Bo shows Blade a rendering of armor designed for him while they follow the Hulk confrontation 101.
  • Iron Man-style powered armor — worn during the vampire stronghold operation, allowing him to attack without worrying about the mutants’ assaults. Corvus Glaive later hacks the armor to pieces 177 178 196.
  • Aircraft beneath his feet — remains operational after Corvus Glaive destroys most of his armor 196.

Relationships

  • Yang Bo — hunting partner and friend. Blade supplies leads and transport, while Yang Bo helps him escape the vampire archive, protects Whistler, and relieves his bloodlust. Their cooperation expands into planning a Hunter Association. Yang Bo later grants him the Vampire class and guides his initial advancement, while Blade recruits guild members and immediately offers help when Yang Bo comes under attack 11 23 26 48 51 91 95.
  • Whistler — mentor, adoptive father, and longtime partner. He raised Blade, taught him survival skills, and administers his serum; Blade considers losing him unbearable. Whistler later becomes a Minecraft-derived Vampire Hunter through Yang Bo’s class-change procedure 25 26 94.
  • Karen — initially a rescued ally whom Blade feels drawn to partly because she resembles his mother. He arms her, seeks help for her developing vampirism, and accepts her intervention while tormenting Frost. Their relationship later becomes romantic, and Blade confirms that she is three months pregnant. He also supports her anti-vampire research and reports the effectiveness of her new potion to Yang Bo 17 19 27 31 134 175.
  • Miriam — mother. Blade believes Frost killed her until Yang Bo reveals that she survived as a vampire, leaving him confused and preoccupied 11 31 32.
  • Deacon Frost — personal enemy responsible for biting Miriam. Frost also needs Blade’s blood to resurrect the Blood God, making Blade a target for capture 11 22 30.
  • Phil Coulson — longstanding S.H.I.E.L.D. acquaintance. Their exchanges become tense when Coulson questions deaths among vampire believers, though they later meet and converse amicably 24 43.
  • Bor — vampire transported to Yang Bo as a favor. Blade later fights alongside him and intervenes out of concern that he might die, while joking that he merely wants to avoid wasting his transport effort. They become regular hunting partners, although Bor complains that Karen’s pregnancy has made Blade less active. They also cooperate against mutant vampires and Thanos’s forces 41 42 49 175 179 196.
  • Skye — student and hunting companion. She addresses him as “Teacher” and calls him when Mjolnir apparently kills Yang Bo; Blade immediately finishes his current fight and checks whether she is safe. She later tells Yang Bo that she has been hunting vampires with Blade 110 159.
  • Albert and her companions — recruits associated with Whistler’s daughter whom Blade helps bring into the Hunter Guild. He credits their new abilities with accelerating the campaign against Washington’s vampires 91 94 134.
  • Alida Marinos’s vampire faction — approaches Blade for cooperation against mutant vampires. Blade considers the proposal because of the threat to humans, but Yang Bo ultimately rejects the alliance and attacks the faction 175 177.
  • Olena — delivers the vampire faction’s truce agreement to Blade. After the stronghold battle, Blade conveys her thanks to Yang Bo and rebuffs his teasing suggestion that he keep her alive as a romantic interest 180.
  • Angie — vampire ally who fights alongside Blade and Bor against mutant vampires and later against Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight 178 194 196.
  • Corvus Glaive — alien opponent whom Blade engages directly. Although Corvus destroys most of his armor, Blade’s upgraded vampire abilities allow him to hold his own 194 196.

  • In bat form, Blade asks to test his new abilities independently. Yang Bo agrees and asks him to investigate Washington’s strongest Vampire Family 95.
  • Blade later reports that the new hunters and Karen’s explosive anti-vampire potion have greatly improved their clearing speed 134.

  • Bor tells Yang Bo that Karen is pregnant and Blade has stopped joining their daily hunts. Blade then greets Yang Bo warmly and confirms that she is three months along 175.
  • Blade presents information supplied by a vampire faction about infected mutants that possess greater strength, extraordinary regeneration, and an overwhelming feeding instinct 175.
  • He explains his willingness to cooperate with the faction: if the mutants consume or infect all ordinary vampires, they will eventually prey on humans 175.
  • Yang Bo identifies Chad Norma as the force behind the mutants and the modified son of the faction’s leader, then orders Blade to summon the hunters. Nearly a hundred Vampire Hunters assemble for a citywide operation 175.
  • Blade accompanies Yang Bo to the vampire stronghold in powered armor. Yang Bo rejects Alida Marinos’s proposed alliance and begins fighting the faction 176 177.

Notable Quotes

“Remember, mercy toward vampires is cruelty toward yourself. Aim at their heads and pull the trigger. It’s that simple!” 19

“Even if I can’t become human, I don’t want to become a vampire ruled by desire!” 26

“Yang, could you give me this Bat Transformation ability too? I’d even be willing to get struck by lightning!” 47

“The war never stopped, did it?” 176

Trivia

  • Blade funds his hunts partly by selling watches looted from enemies. This is unreliable income: not every vampire wears one, and their deaths can burn their possessions to ashes before he retrieves them 26 48.
  • On seeing Yang Bo’s pixelated Human Heart, he jokes that its owner would have to look like a block—unintentionally approaching the truth behind Yang Bo’s Minecraft-derived items 26.
  • Before his class change, Blade cannot see the Minecraft-derived items dropped directly by slain monsters. He asks why he has never seen Vampire Blood when Yang Bo demonstrates it to the new guild recruits 94.
  • Yang Bo compares Blade’s combination of Teleportation, Regeneration, swordsmanship, and marksmanship to a “budget Deadpool” 100.
  • His black leather clothing, Silver Longsword, and metal crossbow prompt a narrative comparison to Vayne from League of Legends 175.
  • Some vampires assume Blade leads the Hunter Association. Alida Marinos recognizes Yang Bo’s arrival as confirmation that Yang Bo, rather than Blade, is its actual leader 177.
