Watching Kama cry so hard he was almost passing out, Newt felt his sympathy stir again.
Although the man had ambushed them with malicious intent, seeing him in such a miserable state still made Newt feel sorry for him.
"Hermione," Newt asked hesitantly, "is there any way you can lift his Unbreakable Vow?"
"Why bother? It can't be triggered anyway."
All three froze. Even Kama, who had been sobbing in great, shuddering gasps, stopped crying and looked at Hermione in disbelief.
"Because Credence isn't a member of the Lestrange family at all."
Hermione laid the truth bare. "The real heir of the Lestrange family sank to the bottom of the sea when the ship went down. During the evacuation, some stupid woman got fed up with the baby crying and secretly swapped him with someone else's child."
"The person old Corvus loved most became fish food ages ago. The vow doesn't even have a target anymore. How the hell is it supposed to trigger?"
