| Magic Level 1 — approaching breakthrough | 6 7 | A month of Hogwarts study brings her to 978/1,000. Absorbing her first soul-energy point raises this to 979/1,000; three hours in Hell’s Kitchen brings her to 998/1,000. Maxed-out spells remain capped at level 1 until her overall magic advances. |
| Magic Level 2 | 12 | Broom-control practice fills the remaining experience requirement; meditation completes the breakthrough to 1/10,000. Maxed-out spells advance to level 2, including Levitation, Disarming, Full Body-Bind, Shield Charm, and Sectumsempra. Casting speed, range, control, and effective target size improve. |
| Magic Level 2 — continued growth | 18 44 | Spell practice and broom training raise her to 1,463/10,000; a later panel shows 5,370/10,000, alongside newly acquired Unforgivable Curses. |
| Magic Level 3 | 49 | The Quirrell confrontation yields 5,000 soul-energy points, mostly from Voldemort, pushing her past the level-two cap. Her subsequent panel reads 672/50,000. Reaches adult-wizard magical power and automatically unlocks Wandless Magic level 1. |
Background / History
Before transmigration, Hermione’s unnamed previous-life self was a man who enjoyed the Harry Potter series. She awakens as twelve-year-old Hermione in New York rather than London, with the original Hermione’s memories and a mysterious Spellbook inside her mind. The Marvel world is in 2008, whereas the original Hermione’s memories concern Britain in the 1990s. Her parents remain alive in the other world, leaving her initially undocumented, penniless, and alone in New York 1.
The Spellbook provides a route back to Hermione’s own room and allows travel between the two worlds. She buys a wand and books in Diagon Alley, records accessible spells, and practices in Marvel to avoid the British Ministry of Magic’s surveillance. To earn usable local money, she works at Elvin’s grilled-meat shop while using the Confundus Charm to make people overlook her age 2 6.
At Hogwarts, she rejects the Sorting Hat’s preference for Slytherin. Her reasons are practical: avoiding its students’ hostility toward Muggle-born witches and staying close to Harry Potter, whose adventures she knows can create opportunities. She also keeps her transmigration and Spellbook secret, particularly because Hogwarts professors’ Legilimency could expose them 3.
Appearance
Hermione has a petite, twelve-year-old body; the face she sees after transmigration is described as identical to young Emma Frost’s from her previous life 1 6.
- Hair: Brown 13.
- Eyes: Green; Snape’s attention is drawn partly by her eyes and magical talent 6.
- Clothing: Frequently wears wizard robes, including during visits to S.H.I.E.L.D. and outings with Tony and Pepper 18 38.
- Animagus form: A graceful gray-and-white cat closely resembling McGonagall’s transformation 6.
Personality
Hermione is ambitious, calculating, and intensely concerned with becoming strong enough to survive both worlds. She prefers acquiring useful knowledge to following lessons mechanically, masters demonstrations almost immediately, and spends long hours researching school history. Her aloofness and secrecy earn her the nickname “the Library Witch,” although she patiently answers Harry and Ron’s sincere questions 3 6.
She has few qualms about killing but explicitly refuses to prey on innocent passersby. Her criminal hunting serves both her growth and her public image: she wants deaths attributed to justified action rather than indiscriminate violence that would attract superheroes’ hostility 7.
Her apparently innocent behavior around S.H.I.E.L.D. is largely deliberate. She plays a clever but praise-seeking child with powerful magical backing, encouraging agents to underestimate her while seeking an identity, institutional protection, and access to useful resources 12 13 15 16.
Hermione is sharp-tongued with Tony, enjoys puncturing his vanity, and expects favors to be repaid. Her affection for Pepper is more straightforward: she values Pepper’s concern because it is not mixed with an intelligence assignment. She recognizes Natasha’s kindness as genuine but remains wary of the professional motives accompanying it 27 33 37 38.
Abilities & Skills
Spellbook
Her mental Spellbook records magic and allows her to learn recorded techniques instantly 1.
- Categories: Charms, Dark Magic, Ancient Magic, Alchemy, Potions, Magical Creatures, and Curiosities 1.
- Acquisition: Scans written spells or copies magic demonstrated by others 1 5.
- Progression: Repeated use increases spell proficiency and magical experience. Her overall Magic Level limits spell advancement 1 6.
- Versatility: Given enough practice, she can maximize any recorded spell’s proficiency rather than relying on a narrow natural specialty 12.
- Curiosities: Analyzes eligible objects, stores them as icons, and synthesizes copies when the required materials are available. More highly ranked objects take longer to analyze; wands do not qualify 18.
- Magical creatures: Requires blood samples to register entries; registered samples can also support modifications to similar creatures 16.
Interworld Travel
Two icons on the Spellbook’s final page transport her between the Marvel and Harry Potter worlds 2.
- Each crossing requires approximately twelve hours of recharge before the next 2.
- Returning to a world places her at the location from which she previously left it 12.
- The worlds share the same time of day, but their dates differ 6.
- The Spellbook also mediates a magical crystal-ball broadcast across worlds, without conventional signals 42.
Dark Harvest
Dark Harvest collects soul energy from nearby deaths, including deaths Hermione does not cause 7.
- One soul-energy point increases either magical experience or spell proficiency by one point 7.
- Documented yields include 1 from the robber at Elvin’s shop, 10 from the troll, and 500 from the dying unicorn 7 24 26.
- The Quirrell confrontation yields 5,000, mostly from Voldemort’s soul 49.
- Voldemort’s Horcruxes prevent his main soul from dissipating, but do not stop Dark Harvest from severely weakening it when Quirrell’s shared body dies 49.
Charms and Combat Magic
Hermione combines a broad spell repertoire with precise control rather than relying on a single offensive technique 12 24 36.
- Levitation and Summoning: Moves equipment, retrieves weapons, manipulates a troll’s club, and captures a winged key. Her level-two Summoning Charm can slow Iron Man’s armor but cannot pull it to her or stop it completely 7 11 24 31 45.
- Shield Charm — Protego: Blocks the troll’s club and Quirrell’s Blasting Curse. It does not withstand everything: a missile explosion shatters her shield, and Voldemort pierces her level-two barrier with a nonverbal attack 24 30 46.
- Disarming Charm — Expelliarmus: At maximum level-one proficiency, disarms a robber and knocks him into a wall with force comparable to an adult’s full-strength punch 7.
- Full Body-Bind and Impedimenta: Immobilizes Tony, slows him during a race, and repeatedly trips Iron Monger 22 31 32 36.
- Destructive and elemental magic: Uses Reducto to pulverize a vase, Confringo against Iron Monger, freezing magic to disable missile ports, and Incendio to create attacking fire serpents 12 36.
- Descendo: Pins S.H.I.E.L.D.’s assembled agents to the floor to establish classroom authority 50.
- Utility charms: Repairs Harry’s glasses, unlocks doors, illuminates rooms, and amplifies her voice with Sonorus 2 6 31 39.
Concealment and Mental Magic
Hermione uses stealth and memory manipulation both for infiltration and for controlling what others learn about her 6 16 33.
- Disillusionment Charm: Conceals her during criminal hunting and infiltration. At level 2, even her shadow disappears; she estimates that high-definition cameras would struggle to detect her 7 12 33.
- Confundus Charm: Makes Elvin and bystanders overlook the problem of employing a twelve-year-old 6 15.
- Memory Charm: Erases Natasha’s and other agents’ memories of her departure, despite surveillance footage showing them watch her leave 16.
- Legilimency: Checks the agents selected for her class and discovers that everyone except Clint Barton is Hydra 49.
- False prophecy: Displays remembered scenes of Tony’s future in a crystal ball. This is presented as prophecy, not demonstrated genuine foresight 22.
Transfiguration and Animagus Transformation
After watching McGonagall, Hermione records both ordinary Transfiguration and the professor’s cat transformation 5.
- Level-one Transfiguration affects only small objects and lasts briefly; proficiency alone cannot remove those limits 5.
- Her copied Animagus transformation has no proficiency meter 5.
- Cat form provides excellent night vision and quiet movement, allowing her to evade surveillance while entering the Potions classroom 6.
- Whether she can collect additional Animagus forms remains an unanswered possibility she considers 5.
Dark and Ancient Magic
Hermione deliberately seeks spells unavailable in ordinary first-year instruction 6 44.
- Sectumsempra: A silent cutting spell acquired from the Half-Blood Prince’s textbook; reaches level 2 with her second-tier breakthrough 6 12.
- Levicorpus: Copied from the same book; remains level 1 in later panels 6 44.
- Unforgivable Curses: Acquires Imperius, Cruciatus, and Avada Kedavra at level 1. Their effects remain weak at that level; Avada Kedavra can kill small animals but is not yet reliably lethal to humans 44 49.
- Ancient Magic: Sacrifice: Records protection created by sacrificing a life. It prevents damage from a specified source and causes powerful backlash upon contact with that source; strength and duration vary between individuals 46.
- Unobtained techniques: Does not find the Fiendfyre spell or Horcrux-creation method in the Restricted Section 44.
Wandless Magic
Reaching Magic Level 3 automatically unlocks Wandless Magic at level 1 49.
- Allows every spell she knows to be cast without a wand or spoken incantation 49.
- Initially limits those casts to level-one effects, regardless of her overall magical power 49.
- Removes two major vulnerabilities—disarming and silencing—and offers a way to surprise opponents who believe she can no longer cast 49.
Healing, Alchemy, and Potions
Hermione records improved potion recipes and develops practical alchemical skills alongside her combat magic 6 42 48.
- Heals Natasha’s deep wound after removing its stitches with Levitation 19.
- Removes Natasha’s old bullet scar by carefully reopening it with weak Diffindo and applying a Healing Charm 19.
- Creates paired recording-and-projection crystal balls linked through the Spellbook 42.
- Produces a Nimbus 2000 as alchemy practice and gives it to Ron 48.
- Receives Nicolas Flamel’s alchemy notes and the Philosopher’s Stone, expanding her available knowledge and materials 47 48.
Flying and Quidditch
Flying is not supplied as an instant-learn skill by the Spellbook, so Hermione must improve through ordinary practice 8 12.
- Develops stable sideways flight through Harry’s advice and repeated laps 12.
- Precise broom control also increases her magical experience 12 18.
- Serves as Gryffindor’s Beater, combining Bludger attacks with kicks, elbows, and technological broom modifications 10 42 43.
- Wins a race against Tony by slowing his faster armor with spells rather than matching its speed 31 32.
- Her Apparition remains insufficiently reliable for safely transporting another person; she carries Pepper by broom instead 35.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Wand — Purchased in Diagon Alley; stabilizes the channeling of her magical power. Remains useful after she unlocks wandless casting 2 32 49.
- Nimbus 2000 — Her main transport; can be stored and replicated through the Spellbook. Later outfitted with a headlight, horn, exhaust, and nitro booster 18 43.
- Handgun — Taken from the robber at Elvin’s shop and later used to shoot Quirrell in the Forbidden Forest 7 26.
- Disposable syringes — Used to collect magical-creature blood; she also uses a syringe to put Fluffy to sleep 16 24 45.
- Paired enchanted crystal balls — Transmit and display images across worlds through the Spellbook 42.
- Philosopher’s Stone — Produces the Elixir of Life through alchemy, turns metal into gold, and substitutes for most alchemical materials. The elixir prolongs life but does not grant eternal youth or absolute immortality 47.
- Nicolas Flamel’s alchemy notes — Given alongside the Stone under a condition Dumbledore says he will explain later 48.
- Two phones — One custom-made by S.H.I.E.L.D., whose listening device she notices; another privately given by Pepper 27.
- Small schoolbag — Holds enough belongings to spill a person-sized pile onto the classroom floor 50.
Relationships
- Harry Potter — Friend and frequent companion; Hermione deliberately joins Gryffindor partly to remain near his adventures. He also helps her improve her flying 3 6 12.
- Ron Weasley — Friend and fellow “sidekick” in the students’ description of their trio. Receives a Nimbus 2000 she makes, though she stops his attempted embrace 6 48.
- Minerva McGonagall — Professor who responds warmly to Hermione’s thank-you letter and recruits her as Gryffindor’s Beater 2 10.
- Albus Dumbledore — Headmaster whom Hermione initially fears could uncover her secrets. Later acknowledges her investigations and gives her Flamel’s notes and the Stone subject to an undisclosed condition 3 45 48.
- Severus Snape — Watches her talent closely. Hermione secretly copies spells from his Half-Blood Prince textbook without removing it from the classroom 6.
- Draco Malfoy — Antagonistic classmate whose Muggle-born prejudice fuels their conflict. Hermione hexes him on the train and later threatens him with her pistol 2 26.
- Neville Longbottom — Thanks her for saving him and offers help; she asks him to exchange seats 16.
- Oliver Wood — Quidditch captain and trainer who becomes alarmed by her aggressive Beater practice 12 27.
- Natasha Romanoff — First major S.H.I.E.L.D. contact and an affectionate ally. Hermione heals her injuries but distrusts the mission-related motives intertwined with their friendship 13 19 27.
- Phil Coulson — Liaison who brings her to headquarters. Regards her as a child who should be protected from exploitation 18.
- Nick Fury — Recruits her as a consultant and instructor. Both seek advantages from their cooperation; she uses his interest in magic to obtain access and authority 16 40 50.
- Pepper Potts — Her closest source of uncomplicated care in Marvel. Gives her a private phone, welcomes her into her home, and secures Tony’s help with her broom 27 33 38.
- Tony Stark — Friend, frequent target of her teasing, and technological collaborator. She repeatedly saves him; he opposes sending her into danger as an Avenger 31 36 37 40.
- Quirinus Quirrell and Voldemort — Enemies she targets partly for their potential soul-energy value. Their confrontation supplies the energy for her level-three breakthrough 16 46 49.

- Receives Flamel’s notes and formal possession of the Stone from Dumbledore; her defeat of Quirrell becomes public knowledge at Hogwarts 48.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Instructor
- Accepts a mystical-side teaching role after requesting access to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s interesting items and files rather than focusing on salary 40.
- Discovers through Legilimency that Fury’s selected class consists of Hydra agents apart from Hawkeye 49.
- Receives level-nine clearance, establishes authority with Descendo, and begins teaching the agents from wizarding textbooks 50.
