Background / History

Xiao Yu was the son of Xiao Ping, Xiao Zhan’s elder brother. Xiao Ping sacrificed his life fighting an enemy who attacked the Xiao Clan during its relocation from the Imperial Capital to Wutan City, saving Xiao Zhan. After Xiao Yu lost his parents, Xiao Zhan raised him as his own son 1 2 15 16.

Unable to cultivate from childhood, Xiao Yu was branded a good-for-nothing. The clan proposed moving him to an outer-clan business, but Xiao Zhan opposed the decision and continued supporting him. Xiao Yu nevertheless grew up in a secluded courtyard on the clan’s back mountain 1 2.

The original Xiao Yu died for an unknown reason at twelve. Zhou Yu, an Earth resident familiar with the Battle Through the Heavens novel and animation, then transmigrated into his body. His soul’s arrival unlocked exceptional cultivation talent and innate lightning and flame powers. After three years of isolation, he accepted his new identity and stepped outside to participate in the world 1 3.

His cooking and relaxed company make his courtyard a refuge for Xiao Yan during strenuous training 1 2 5 14 19.

His calm manner conceals a mischievous streak. He enjoys gossip, teasing Xiao Yan about Xun’er, and showing off to people close to him. After inviting the pair on a marketplace outing, he regrets becoming a spectator to their affection 15 18.

Xiao Yu is cautious about exposing his secrets and protective of his independence. He invents an alchemist teacher to explain his resources, reveals only a fraction of his cultivation, and refuses the guild presidency because he does not want factional duties 7 10 17 49.

His attachment to family overrides his preference for an easy life.
