Background / History

Queen of a Confined Tribe

Medusa had ruled the Snake-People Tribe for a hundred years by the time she agreed to travel with Xiao Yu. Her strength deterred neighboring powers from exterminating or enslaving her people, but could not free them from the Tagor Desert, whose scorching environment conflicted with their cold, yin-natured bloodline 39 56 120 250.

Her lifelong ambition was to secure a suitable homeland for the tribe. While traveling through the desert, she destroyed mercenary parties trafficking Snake-People women and resolved to risk Heavenly Flame evolution to reach Dou Zong 40.

Encounter with Xiao Yu

Reports from Yin Shi about dangerous, multicolored phenomena drew Medusa to the southern desert, where she pursued Xiao Yu. She trapped him with Ten-Thousand Snake Prison and fought him after he refused to explain his activities. He eventually escaped by enclosing her in the Illusory World Thunderflame 39 40 41 42.

After breaking the illusory world, Medusa absorbed its lingering fragments and discovered that Xiao Yu’s flame and lightning could aid her bloodline more effectively than a Heavenly Flame. She ordered a desert-wide search for him and postponed her original evolution plan 42 67.

When her Heavenly Flame vanished during Gu He’s visit, she blamed his party and attacked them. Yun Yun was injured and sealed while covering their escape. Medusa later recognized Xiao Yu’s breakthrough aura in the Magical Beast Mountain Range and requested his help, offering tribal treasures, future assistance, and an end to her grievance against Yun Yun 67 68 69.

Two Separate Evolutions

Medusa first used Purple Extreme Seed Thunder to evolve her Purple Nether Flame Snake into a Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python. This removed her cultivation barrier but was only preparation for the more dangerous ancestral evolution of her own Snake-People bloodline 73 74.

Despite estimating her chances of success at less than ten percent, she proceeded with the Illusory World Thunderflame. Her body disintegrated, leading the tribe’s Eight Chieftains to believe she had died. Xiao Yu instead sensed a lingering power of creation and recognized that the evolution was still underway 74 75 76.

She reappeared in human form as a Dou Zong. The evolution also awakened a fragment of the primordial creation bloodline, whose inherited visions included an immense figure repairing a rift in the heavens. Developing this incomplete bloodline became another reason for her continued cooperation with Xiao Yu 78 87.

Leaving the Desert

Medusa honored her agreement by joining Xiao Yu against Yun Shan at the Misty Cloud Sect. Afterward, she recalled her people, ordered human hunters out of the desert, and personally dealt with opponents her Eight Leaders could not defeat 110 112 120.

She subsequently led the tribe west into Jia Ma territory, settling in Salt City and Desert City and establishing Snake People City. The Jia Ma Imperial Family recognized the new settlement and relocated its previous inhabitants rather than resisting the migration 209 210.

Three hostile Dou Zongs attacked Snake People City, but Medusa fought them alone and severely injured all three. She later identified the Golden Goose Sect, Lion Underworld Sect, and Three Corpses Sect as the factions responsible 210 217.

Northwest Alliance and Central Plains

Medusa agreed to bring the Snake-People Tribe into Xiao Yu’s alliance. During the Sect Gathering conflict, she took six of fourteen Dou Zong opponents while Xiao Yu fought the other eight; he subsequently intervened to finish the battle and compel the sect leaders to accept Northwest unification 221 229 232.

With the Northwest unified and the tribe’s four elders now Dou Zongs, Medusa could leave tribal affairs in their hands. After receiving a replacement thunderflame seed, she insisted on serving as Xiao Yu’s enforcer for three years rather than accepting it without repayment 246 250.

In the Central Plains, she fought alongside Xiao Yu and Zi Yan, attacked Feng Qing’er for threatening Zi Yan, and helped ambush a gravely wounded Six-Star Dou Zun. She later received Saint Creation’s insights and refined the Yin-Yang Mystic Origin Stone with Xiao Yu and Yun Yun 254 269 321.

Later Cultivation

Medusa disclosed the primordial creation bloodline’s name and inheritance to Xiao Yu. His accounts of Nuwa resonated with her bloodline, leading them to suspect a connection to the ancient goddess. She remained beside him after their three-year contract expired 303 304.

Xiao Yu later brought her to the Nine Nether Yellow Springs to pursue Dou Sheng advancement. She entered the pool as a Seven-Colored Giant Python and eventually returned as a Four-Star Dou Sheng 364 387.

When Xiao Yu vanished without a trace, he left a letter addressed to Medusa, Yun Yun, and Ya Fei 413.

Personality

Medusa is cold, proud, decisive, and accustomed to unquestioned authority. Threats do not intimidate her, and she refuses to subordinate herself to others even when agreeing to cooperate. Her ruthlessness is particularly apparent toward those who hunt or traffic her people 40 90 110 217.

Her loyalty to the Snake-People Tribe outweighs concern for her own life. She attempts an evolution with less than a ten percent chance of success because protecting her people and leaving the desert are both her responsibility and her lifelong dream 74.

She dislikes owing favors and initially understands relationships through repayment and shared interests rather than friendship. Xiao Yu’s generosity gradually challenges that outlook. Although she remains reserved, she accepts him as a friend, protects Zi Yan, and behaves courteously during her visit to the Xiao Clan 71 233 250 254 270.

Her attachment to Xiao Yu eventually becomes lasting love. She initially resents his involvement with other women, but grows less troubled after spending time with Yun Yun and Ya Fei 364.
