Tony walked up to the girl, crouched down, and asked earnestly, "Qiqi, what are you doing here?"
Before Qiqi could answer, Tony glanced at the time and ventured a guess. "Aha, has Qiqi learned to sleep in from a certain little sleepyhead?"
"Let me see. Where's that little rascal Paimon hiding?"
Tony was a little surprised. Paimon was still fast asleep in bed.
The two little ones had always shared a room. Except when Paimon went to see the Traveler, she usually went everywhere with Qiqi, such as coming to the dining room for breakfast together at this hour.
It made no sense for Paimon to still be asleep while Qiqi was out on her own.
"Little Paimon... looked very tired... Qiqi couldn't bear to wake her."
Qiqi answered earnestly, "So Qiqi wanted to... get breakfast for Paimon."
Tony froze for a moment, then broke into the proud smile of a doting father.
He reached out, patted Qiqi on the head, and said,
"Good girl."
"But why didn't you take the elevator?"
Qiqi might be forgetful, but Tony had gone to great lengths to teach her how to use the elevator.
"Um... couldn't get in... because... Bennett was inside."
Huh?!
Tony raised his arm and spread two fingers in the air. A projection showed him what was happening inside the elevator.
Several maintenance robots were hard at work around the outside of the elevator.
Inside, beneath flickering lights, two unlucky souls squatted on the floor, chatting to make the best of their predicament.
Tony turned up the volume.
Amid the racket, he heard the following conversation.
[I'm... I'm really sorry! I-I don't know what happened either. It was working just fine, then suddenly the elevator ended up like this.]
Guilt was written all over Bennett's face. He rubbed his fingers
