Peter, who had been swinging through the battlefield on his webs, saw this and immediately shouted.
He shot forward like lightning, hurtling toward Iron Man without hesitation just before the spikes reached him.
He grabbed Tony tightly, and the two rolled across the ground several times, narrowly escaping to one side.
The spikes slammed into the ground, throwing up a cloud of dust like a small explosion.
"Hey, Mr. Stark! I'm not too late, am I?"
Peter's lively voice rang out, but Tony, caught in the "brat's" tight embrace, felt anything but reassured.
He climbed to his feet and looked at the "overexcited" Spider-Man with a headache brewing. His expression stern, he demanded, "If I remember correctly, your assignment was to stand guard on the outskirts of the city. So what's going on here?"
"Uh..."
Tony's pointed question left Peter feeling guilty. His eyes darted around, searching for something to change the subject with. Just then, danger struck. The spinning Chain Mace whistled toward him, practically grazing his scalp and nearly landing a direct hit.
Fortunately, Peter's reliable Spider-Sense acted like a sensitive alarm, giving him a warning jolt. In the split second before the mace could smash his fragile spider skull, his hands rose swiftly as though driven by an invisible force, catching the heavy, destructive weapon firmly.
"I-I thought you needed my help more over here, so..."
Looking a little embarrassed, Peter began to explain, but before he could finish, Tony ruthlessly cut off the rest of his "excuses."
"Help? Does it look like we need your help here?"
As Tony spoke, he pointed toward Venom and Hulk, who were fighting fiercely nearby.
