Background / History
Transfer to External Transmigration
Lin Ze previously worked in the Historical Transmigration Department. An assignment to help an impoverished noble heir become king nearly turned into a situation involving obsessive confinement. He deliberately arranged his mission-body’s death to escape, accepting a lower rating, and requested a departmental transfer 1.
Director Liao approved his move to External Transmigration. Although Minister Wu’s account of accidentally blowing himself up initially frightened Lin Ze, he relaxed after learning that modern missions used consciousness transfer rather than employees’ original bodies. He selected the Paimon-based Genshin Impact cheat and was sent through the spacetime gate as Aether 1 2.
“The Birth of Iron Man”
After rescuing Paimon from a sand dune, Lin Ze was ambushed by two armed men. He killed both attackers but suffered fragmentation wounds, lost consciousness, and was taken to a cave prison. While recovering, he discovered that Paimon’s prerequisite quest required him to keep Tony Stark alive, help him escape, and prevent Ho Yinsen’s destined death 2 3 4 6.
Lin Ze broke out, intercepted Yinsen’s sacrificial charge, and reunited him with Tony and Paimon. During their escape, his Anemo spread the base’s flames into a fiery tornado. When Tony’s overloaded armor failed in flight, Lin Ze used his Wind Glider to slow the group’s fall, though they still crashed into the desert 7 8 9.
A stone gate visible only to Lin Ze and Paimon returned them to the Bureau. He received a B rating, pulled Qiqi, and immediately accepted another mission in the same setting—reappearing beside the craters left by their crash 10.
“The Weight of Iron”
Using Qiqi’s form, Lin Ze accompanied Tony and Yinsen out of the desert and back to New York. His first official mission, “The Weight of Iron,” required him to witness Tony become a true hero: Iron Man 12 13 14.
Deep synchronization with Qiqi weakened his vigilance. Professor Charles’s telepathy restored some of Lin Ze’s clarity, prompting him to recognize the danger of exposing Bureau memories. A red mission indicator then led him to Tony, who had been paralyzed and deprived of his arc reactor. Qiqi’s healing bought enough time for Lin Ze to retrieve and replace the older reactor 21.
After a missile attack killed Qiqi’s active form and injured Tony, Lin Ze returned as Aether, dispersed the flames threatening Tony, and killed Obadiah Stane. Qiqi’s loss left him grieving, although he knew a grayed-out character could be revived 25 26 27.
Steve Rogers and the Trafficking Ring
Without usable money or a place to stay, Lin Ze accepted Steve Rogers’s help. He invented a cover story in which he and Paimon were orphaned siblings searching for relatives, then offered to cook in exchange for lodging. He recognized Steve as Captain America after Paimon stumbled over his shield 27 28.
When Sally reported her daughter Otilia missing, Lin Ze proposed using Paimon as bait to trace a suspected child-trafficking ring. The traffickers captured them, but Lin Ze remained conscious during transport. At their warehouse, he switched to Qiqi to escape his handcuffs, returned to Aether, and helped Steve and the FBI rescue the children 31 32 33 34 35.
Lin Ze reached Tony’s press conference but was stopped outside without an admission pass. He chose not to force his way in or meet Tony again, said goodbye to Steve, and returned through the stone gate. His completed mission earned an A rating, after which he took two days off 36.
“The Frost Comes” and Xavier’s School
Following his first Electro-character pull, Lin Ze began “The Frost Comes” and operated as Fischl with Oz. After Thor regained Mjolnir and defeated the Destroyer, he declined to accompany Thor to Asgard and switched back to the Traveler 36 38 48.
Lin Ze and Paimon became lost while walking toward Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Drawn by a scream and helicopter searchlights, he attempted to stop armed people carrying children away, but abandoned the attack rather than risk killing the captives. Inside the damaged school, he encountered a hostile, unusually agile man who later introduced himself as Wade and survived a sword thrust through the chest 48 49 50.
Appearance
Lin Ze’s mission appearance changes with his selected character; his initial Marvel-world body is Aether’s 2 3.
- Aether form: Long, braided golden hair, a white cape, golden ornaments, a tassel at the left ear, and an exposed midriff 3.
- Qiqi form: Small enough to slip out of handcuffs fitted to Aether’s wrists; medical equipment detects no heartbeat, pulse, or body temperature 14 35.
- Borrowed clothing: Steve lends him a hoodie and sweatpants, then dries and braids his hair 29.
- Mistaken identity: Both desert attackers and Wade initially mistake his Aether form for a girl 3 49.
Personality
Lin Ze is affectionate and protective toward Paimon, treating her as both a traveling companion and family as his synchronization with Aether increases. He comforts her, shares scarce food, and carries her when walking proves difficult. He also asks her to avoid flying in public to reduce unwanted attention 3 27.
His protectiveness can become lethal anger. He kills armed attackers threatening him and Paimon, and personally executes Obadiah after the attack on Qiqi and Tony. Nevertheless, he restrains his attacks when innocent lives are at risk, refusing to bring down helicopters carrying children 4 26 49.
He is resourceful but not infallible: he improvises a snake distraction under gunfire and uses character switching to escape restraints, yet overestimates his navigation skills. He feels guilty about deceiving Steve, remains concerned about mission ratings, and recognizes that emotional immersion in borrowed characters can compromise his judgment 3 21 27 28 35 48.
Abilities & Skills
Character Switching and Synchronization
His licensed game cheat allows him to inhabit acquired Genshin Impact characters. Synchronization can influence his emotions, behavior, and awareness through the selected character’s memories 2 3 12 21.
- Switches between Aether and Qiqi to change body size and escape handcuffs 35.
- Uses Aether as a fallback after Qiqi’s active form is killed 26 27.
- Can revive a grayed-out character; Qiqi is available again during the warehouse rescue 27 35.
- Can lower synchronization, but believes abandoning the cheat’s advantages would undermine his ability to complete missions 27.
- Deep synchronization with Qiqi makes him less cautious; Fischl’s grandiose speech feels natural in-character but embarrasses him afterward 21 48.
Anemo Manipulation
As Aether, Lin Ze uses Gale Blade and Wind Blade to gather and release destructive wind 4 7 8.
- Redirects incoming fragmentation bombs with a wind vortex, though their fragments still seriously injure him 4.
- Breaks doors and strikes multiple armed enemies 7 8 35.
- Spreads existing flames into a fiery tornado during the terrorist-base escape 9.
- Disperses flames threatening the unconscious Tony 26.
Elemental Sight
Elemental Sight allows Lin Ze to scout positions throughout the cave and identify allies and enemies as marked figures 6 7.
- Locates Paimon while imprisoned 6.
- Detects Yinsen approaching a dense group of enemies, enabling his rescue 7.
- Finds Steve outside the traffickers’ warehouse and locates thirteen captive children, excluding Paimon 35.
Qiqi’s Healing and Cryo
Qiqi’s form provides healing and ice-based abilities 21 23.
- Temporarily sustains Tony after his arc reactor is stolen 21.
- Uses ice to ease Rhodey’s injuries and an icy sword to cut into the wrecked car trapping him 23.
- Does not eliminate the risk of character death, as demonstrated by the missile attack on Qiqi’s room 25 27.
Fischl Persona and Raven Transformation
Lin Ze operates as Fischl alongside Oz and can assume a night-raven form 38 48 49.
- Uses the raven form to approach and attack escaping helicopters while evading gunfire 49.
- Returns from the raven/Fischl appearance to his male Traveler form after withdrawing 49.
Swordsmanship, Agility, and Fieldcraft
Lin Ze combines sword attacks with quick movement and improvised tactics 3 4.
- Dodges gunfire and closes on armed opponents before they can react 4 7.
- Disarms the Black-Market Doctor by kicking his gun aside 35.
- Can be outmaneuvered in close combat: Wade’s agility, strength, and dirty fighting initially overwhelm him 49.
- Cooks meals praised by Steve and Paimon, including food prepared to restore stamina before the trafficking operation 31 33.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Level 30 Dull Blade — Summonable one-handed sword; his principal weapon in Aether’s form 3 7 26.
- Wind Glider — Allows controlled gliding, but cannot support Tony’s heavy armor and all its passengers 9.
- Sunsettias — Shared with Paimon to ease hunger and fatigue. They cannot heal fragmentation wounds until embedded metal is removed 3 4.
- Coconut Milk — Available from Qiqi’s inventory; helps Tony and Yinsen recover strength, but does not satisfy Lin Ze and Paimon’s later hunger 13 27.
- Mission interface — Displays objectives and progress; a red mission box alerts him to danger involving Tony 14 21 27.
Relationships
- Paimon — Traveling companion, guide, and chosen family. Their bond deepens through Aether synchronization, and Lin Ze prioritizes her safety and daily care 3 27.
- Tony Stark — Teammate and central mission target. Lin Ze helps him escape captivity and later saves his life; Tony calls him “Little Prince” and treats his Qiqi form as family 9 14 21 26.
- Ho Yinsen — Teammate whose survival is an explicit prerequisite objective. Lin Ze prevents his sacrificial death and escorts him back to Tony 6 7 8.
- Steve Rogers — Host and rescue partner. Provides food, shelter, and clothing, then works with Lin Ze against the trafficking ring 28 29 35.
- Minister Wu — Department supervisor who introduces the cheat system, processes mission reports, and offers Lin Ze rest after his first assignment 2 10 36.
- Director Liao — Bureau director who approves his departmental transfer and offers to transfer him back if necessary 1.
- Professor Charles — Attempts to recover Qiqi’s memories through telepathy. The encounter restores Lin Ze’s clarity but makes him fear disclosure of Bureau secrets 21.
- Sally and Otilia — Mother and daughter reunited through Lin Ze and Steve’s investigation of the traffickers 31 32 35.
- Wade — Hostile encounter at Xavier’s School. He mistakes Lin Ze for a girl, fights and harasses him, then survives being stabbed through the chest 49 50.
Trivia
- Lin Ze repeatedly wants Zhongli but receives Qiqi instead—both in his ordinary game account, where he describes her as already “C8???,” and in his first Bureau reward pull 1 10.
- Before transferring departments, he studies foreign historical literature to prepare for missions, only to discover that film, television, and comic worlds such as Marvel are also destinations 6.
- Paimon’s Bureau-assigned backstory places their journey after traveling through Teyvat’s Seven Nations and completing a final battle; the Marvel world is their first destination afterward 3.
- His fear that “The Weight of Iron” might earn a C rating proves unfounded: the completed assignment receives an A 27 36.
