Carlisle invited Miaomiao to sit down. With her joining the whole family, the nine of them filled every seat around the round table.
"We originally lived in Forks, Washington. It's a tiny town, with a permanent population of just over three thousand."

"Carlisle has a medical conference here. We talked it over and decided to take the opportunity to bring the whole family here for a few days. Is there anywhere you'd recommend?"

"That sounds nice." Emmett winked. "We like the weather here. Rainy, foggy, very little sunshine. We heard Gotham City next door is much the same, and we've been discussing whether to spend a few days there too."
Miaomiao's eyes lit up at once. "You like Blüdhaven's fog and rain, and you want to visit Gotham too?"
"Yes. Well, we have heard that public safety in Blüdhaven and Gotham is somewhat... less than ideal." Carlisle chose a tactful expression. "But every city has a police department, doesn't it? Besides, we've heard the cities around here each have their own special protector."
"Blüdhaven's protector is called Nightwing, and Gotham's is called Batman." Alice eagerly shared what she had heard. "What do they call people like that again? 'Vigilantes'? 'Superheroes'?"
Hearing those familiar names, Miaomiao's smile brightened, and she nodded emphatically. "Yes, volunteer crime fighters. Batman and Nightwing patrol every night, fighting crime. As long as they're around, everyone feels safe."
