Background / History
Life Before Arkham
Ririko begins as an impoverished background NPC who has somehow retained memories from previous resets. Despite living cautiously, she repeatedly dies in circumstances she cannot prevent. She seeks financial security through wealthy men, but her current companion economizes even on meals and a discounted engagement-style gift ring 1.
During a jewelry-store robbery, she gathers fallen valuables, hoping to buy a safe apartment in uptown Gotham. Her companion exposes her escape, and their flight takes them into Crime Alley, where she is shot in the head. She later interprets this as having taken the Wayne parents’ intended place in the murder scene, leaving them alive in the altered timeline 1 8 12.
Confinement and Employment at Arkham
Instead of respawning at a default residence, Ririko awakens restrained in Arkham. Hugo Strange says he repaired her head wound but that her left eye is severely damaged. The newly activated Mental Corruption System gives her leverage over him, and she decides to use that leverage to escape and eventually approach Bruce Wayne 2.
Ririko cultivates Hugo’s attraction and Harley Quinn’s interest to improve her conditions. Harley supplies toiletries and better food, but Herman later blocks Harley’s visits and deprives Ririko of meals. Ririko survives by hiding nutritional supplements taken from Hugo’s private room 6 7 10 12 15.
After Herman is imprisoned, Ririko secures permission to assist in the experimental section. She receives an employee badge, staff housing, and access to the staff cafeteria. Her duties include recording subjects’ vital signs, while her new mobility lets her investigate Arkham and prepare for Thomas Wayne’s visit 17 19.
Her optimism collapses when Hugo’s infatuation reaches 80: the system reveals that a target at 100 will kill and dismember her. Harley then attempts to stop the Tomie experiment and detain Ririko. Ririko steals Harley’s ID card, reaches an exterior door overlooking a cliff, and jumps rather than be recaptured 20 21.
Iceberg Lounge and the Cobblepot Family
Ririko lands on Oswald Cobblepot’s Aston Martin. Oswald takes her to the Iceberg Lounge and forces her to work to repay the damage. She remains there partly because Hugo and Harley are likely searching for her, but plans to use Oswald’s wealth to establish an identity acceptable to Gotham high society 21 23.
Her appearance earns substantial tips, and Oswald moves her to the second-floor VIP area with a two-dollar hourly raise. His growing attachment also brings a custom phone linked to his credit card, although its communication restrictions and her tracking bracelet preserve his control over her 24 25 27 34.
Ririko accompanies Oswald to the Cobblepot mansion, where his relatives plot to take his property and claim her. When Ellie tries to kill her and steal her hair, Ririko suffocates Ellie with it. Afterward, Oswald gives her Miranda’s diamond ring as a travel allowance; Ririko still demands more compensation 36 38.
Abduction and the Castle Escape
Ririko finally dances with Bruce at the Iceberg Lounge, presenting herself as an out-of-town college student rather than an Arkham escapee. Jerome’s Clown Army interrupts the gathering, knocks Bruce unconscious, and abducts her 40.
At Jerome’s castle in the Old Amusement Park, Ririko repeatedly delays violence against Bruce, Sofia Falcone, and Butch. She requests burgers to send Clown Army members outside, turns the threatened executions into a cleaning game, and privately offers Sofia an escape arrangement for a million 42 44.
Selina Kyle arrives to locate her for Strange and Cobblepot. Ririko persuades Selina to help evacuate the hostages, then distracts Jerome with an amusement-park date while the escape is prepared 46 48 49.
After identifying “Mr. E” as Wayne Enterprises CEO William Earn, Ririko leads the captives through a secret passage. Jerome intercepts their getaway car before help arrives. When Bruce steps out to buy time, she joins him and warns Jerome that Earn intends to discard him once Bruce is dead 50.
Appearance
Ririko has exquisite features, slightly upturned eyes, pale skin, and a narrow waist with striking proportions. Her long hair is repeatedly emphasized as one of her most captivating features 1 5 6.
- Hair: Long, thick, ink-black, and satin-like; later capable of independent-looking movement and lethal restraint 1 4 36 38.
- Eyes: Dark and lustrous. Her left eye is initially damaged and covered with gauze, but eventually heals completely 2 21.
- Distinctive mark: A mole beneath her left eye, noticed by Bruce during their conversation 40.
- Clothing: Progresses from Arkham patient gowns to a white staff jumpsuit, a black-and-white waitress uniform, and evening dresses used to present herself as a wealthy guest 17 24 31 34.
Personality
Ririko is openly materialistic, treating money as the route to safety, comfort, and dignity. Her ambition grows from scraping together meals to imagining ownership of the jewelry store and access to the Wayne fortune. She refuses to accept basic institutional comforts as the limit of what she deserves 1 2 4.
She is calculating and observant, often presenting a meek, fragile exterior while deliberately provoking attraction or sympathy. Fear does not prevent her from exploiting a dangerous situation: she flatters Hugo, appeals to Harley’s shared experiences as a woman, and bargains with Selina over potential rewards 3 6 46.
Her pride makes her quick to retaliate against humiliation. She slaps Herman despite the guard’s gun and later kills Ellie when attacked. At the same time, she takes substantial risks to preserve the other hostages, ultimately standing beside Bruce rather than remaining in the getaway car 12 38 42 50.
Abilities & Skills
Mental Corruption System
The system measures core characters’ infatuation and states that higher values strengthen Ririko’s ability to mentally corrupt them. It provides identities, numerical readings, and interpretations of their reactions 2 5 6.
- Proximity growth: Hugo’s initial panel specifies an automatic increase of five points per hour within ten meters 2.
- Physical contact: Handshakes, embraces, and more intimate contact can accelerate infatuation growth 5.
- Distance reduction: Remaining more than one mile from a target moderately lowers their infatuation 20.
- Negative values: Represent extreme jealousy rather than ordinary attraction 10.
- Allegiance limit: Attraction does not guarantee loyalty or safety; Harley remains willing to confine or destroy Ririko despite her interest 21.
The system’s disclosed thresholds are:
| Infatuation | Stated Effect |
|---|---|
| 0–20 | Finds Ririko somewhat attractive 2 |
| 40 | Begins to care about her presence 2 |
| 60 | Develops possessive feelings 2 |
| 80 | Initially described as willing to do anything for her; the unlocked guide specifies irrational dependence 2 20 |
| 85 | Cannot bear her contact with other people 20 |
| 90 | Cannot tolerate any of her social interactions 20 |
| 95 | Considers her the sole source of emotional support 20 |
| 100 | Personally kills and dismembers her 20 |
Regeneration and Resurrection
Ririko’s left eye recovers despite Hugo’s prognosis that she would permanently lose its use. Separately, the system awards a resurrection opportunity when Hugo reaches at least 80 infatuation 2 20 21.
- Regeneration: Complete recovery of the left eye is directly observed by Harley 21.
- Resurrection: Used during the cliff escape; Ririko subsequently awakens after being buried 21 22.
- Limit: Only one awarded resurrection opportunity is documented; unrestricted immortality is not established 20 21.
Hair Manipulation
Ririko can move her hair as a means of restraint and killing 36 38.
- A small lock curls around Ellie’s fingertips 36.
- She traps and suffocates Ellie with her hair when Ellie attacks 38.
Timeline Memory
Unlike ordinary reset NPCs, Ririko remembers earlier lives and recognizes characters’ expected futures 1 3 6.
- Recognizes Crime Alley and the expected murder of Bruce’s parents 1.
- Identifies Jerome’s laughter and remembers his later danger to Gotham 3.
- Recalls a timeline in which Harley becomes Jerome’s girlfriend 6.
- Her knowledge is not an infallible script: she notices major deviations after the Waynes survive 8 12.
Social Manipulation and Improvisation
Ririko uses flirtation, selective disclosure, role-playing, and bargaining to obtain access and delay threats 8 17 40 44.
- Turns Hugo’s attachment into staff privileges and freedom of movement within designated areas 17.
- Uses carefully staged appearances to earn large tips from lounge patrons 24 27.
- Masks a private negotiation with Sofia beneath running water and loud complaints 44.
- Keeps Jerome occupied while Selina organizes the hostage escape 48.
