Background / History
Victor was born in prison to a wrongfully convicted mother. A violent inmate killed his mother when she tried to protect him, then nearly beat Victor to death. The attacker escaped without confirming his death, and prison guards discarded Victor with the bodies. Fish Mooney found him barely alive and rescued him 131.
Afterward, Victor sought out combat training to avenge his mother. Ra’s al Ghul became his teacher, but judged that Victor’s obsessions prevented him from progressing beyond them. The killer Victor pursued was later identified as Bane 131 132 135.
Victor became known as Gotham’s foremost professional hitman. While employed by the Falcone Family, he regarded Carmine as his only true master because Carmine was the only person he acknowledged as stronger than himself 54 64.
Appearance
Victor has pale skin, a bald head, a largely hairless face, and a lean, muscular physique 54 62 77.
- Face: Smooth and without eyebrows, though his eyelashes are long and fine; his eyes are repeatedly described as cold or devoid of emotion 57 62 101.
- Build: Broad shoulders, a narrow waist, large hands, and powerful muscles developed through years of training 77 131.
- Scars: Dense, thin scars cover his shoulders, arms, chest, waist, and back. He carves a mark into himself for every person he kills 100.
- Clothing: Usually wears tight black clothing, leather gloves, combat boots, and a studded black leather jacket; he also wears a carefully arranged suit while serving at Falcone Mansion 54 57 77.
- After treatment: Returns to Gotham in dark brown monk’s robes, with additional scars on his forehead and face 210.
Personality
Victor treats killing as both paid work and entertainment. He attacks Dick without permission, threatens to kill Jerome after hearing Ririko call him more handsome, and looks forward to violent confrontations at a mob meeting. His speech is often flat and mechanical, contrasting with the vicious smiles he shows when anticipating bloodshed 57 59.
Although Victor describes himself as lacking emotions, he objects to being treated as incapable of feeling anything. Ririko discovers that he experiences desire through other people’s attraction to her, and he confirms her explanation. His interest gradually becomes more personal: he demands explanations when she uses him to provoke another man and responds to her concern about whether he will survive his revenge attempt 62 79 131 132.
Victor remains practical and money-conscious even during emergencies. He quotes fees, threatens to charge extra, and demands payment before confronting the Death Angel. His attachments nevertheless extend beyond business: he respects Carmine, trusts Fish Mooney, and protects Ririko from Bruce after Bruce nearly kills her 79 86 238 246 250.
Abilities & Skills
Assassination and Blade Combat
Victor specializes in fast, close-range attacks with paired knives and later also uses a long blade 57 210.
- Draws and strikes faster than most victims can react; Dick is the first person he has seen evade his knives at such close range 57.
- Severs an armed ambusher’s hands before the man can fire 66.
- Notices a moving surveillance doll and pins it with a thrown dagger 78.
- Slashes a Talon’s neck, but the target’s regeneration prevents the wound from being decisive 210.
Unarmed Combat and Physical Conditioning
Victor is a highly trained fighter capable of overwhelming Bruce through multiple approaches to sparring 100.
- Counters direct attacks, defensive strategies, jujitsu counters, and improvised techniques 100.
- Demonstrates powerful strikes, exceptional core strength, and repeated one-arm pull-ups 100 244 252.
- Loses a training match when Bruce uses an attack-enhancing bodysuit and an Anti-Gravity Device; Bruce acknowledges that he cannot defeat Victor in a straightforward fight 100 101.
- Is unable to overcome Bane, whose attack leaves him critically injured 132 134.
Firearms and Tactical Work
Victor uses pistols, rifles, and heavy weapons, combining marksmanship with improvised solutions 85 241 247 249.
- Shoots a fleeing car’s tire, then precisely targets the robbers’ heels 241.
- Reassembles a gun in less than a second when Bruce approaches Ririko aggressively 242.
- Uses gasoline and Oswald’s Mercedes-Benz to burn a Tomie Organization creature after his weapons fail to penetrate its protective hair 85.
- Checks windows, locks, alarms, and defensive systems before maintaining his weapons at home 249.
Emotional Sensing
Victor can perceive others’ emotional states. Ririko identifies his attraction to her as initially dependent on other people’s infatuation, while he later notices changes in her mood directly 62 238.
- Recognizes Ririko’s interest in Jerome before she explains it 57.
- Experiences an unfamiliar desire when Ririko deliberately lets him sense her desire to possess someone 62.
- Cannot simply switch off the ability when Ririko asks him to stop monitoring her mood 238.
Resistance to Pamela’s Mental Toxin
Pamela finds that Victor is unaffected by her mental toxin and asks to keep him for research 245.
- This resistance does not prevent her vines from restraining him 244 245.
- Ririko refuses Pamela’s request, considering Victor one of the rare people who can remain stable around her 245.
Combat Instruction
Victor becomes Bruce’s private combat instructor for a fee of five hundred thousand per month 81.
- Replaces light exercise with weighted squats, battle ropes, sparring, pull-ups, and a military training program 81.
- Teaches increasingly dangerous fighting techniques at Bruce’s request 91.
- Gives Bruce the advice to keep a weapon in his hand “even in death,” which Bruce recalls during the fight with Valentin 110.
Sacred Pool Treatment
Victor has practical knowledge of using water from the Salaru Sacred Pool 223.
- Attempts to restore William Cobb’s sanity with the water 223.
- Reports that William has begun speaking and repeating fragments of memories about Haly’s Circus 224.
- His own injuries from Bane are too severe for the pool alone to heal, requiring treatment at the League’s Jerusalem headquarters 137.
Other Skills
- Cooking: Prepares steaks and ramen; shapes Ririko’s beef into hearts while comparing cutting vegetables to cutting people 130 242.
- Dancing: Moves precisely to the beat and impresses Ririko while they dance at the Man in the Mirror bar 77.
- Driving and riding: Regularly transports Ririko by car or motorcycle and carries her out of Falcone Mansion on horseback 54 66 79 294.

- Mechanical combat gauntlet: A left-arm device made from carbon-fiber and titanium-alloy composite plates, with targeting assistance and a heavy-machine-gun mounting slot. Bruce disables its hydraulic joints because it is technology he developed 247.
- Salaru Sacred Pool water: Used in the attempt to restore William Cobb’s sanity 223.
Relationships
- Ririko — Initially his guarded charge under Sofia’s orders; later his employer, housemate, and intimate partner. Their arrangement begins as obedience exchanged for emotional experiences and develops into mutual concern 62 131 238 249 294.
- Carmine Falcone — Former employer and the only Falcone Victor initially accepts as his true master. Victor severs ties to help Ririko escape but later sincerely mourns Carmine and scatters earth over his coffin 64 66 238 240 241.
- Sofia Falcone — Assigns Victor to watch Ririko. His subsequent allegiance to Ririko becomes a grievance between Sofia and Ririko 52 62 68 110.
- Bruce Wayne / Batman — Combat student and later rival over Ririko. Victor prevents Bruce from sharing Ririko’s room because Bruce previously nearly killed her 81 100 101 247 250.
- Fish Mooney — Rescuer and later tavern employer. Victor trusts her to handle the conflict downstairs while he stays with Ririko 130 131.
- Ra’s al Ghul — Martial-arts teacher who considers Victor excessively bound by his obsessions; arranges further treatment after Bane’s attack 135 137.
- Bane — Killed Victor’s mother and nearly killed Victor in prison. Victor waits in Gotham to seek revenge but suffers another crushing defeat 131 132 134.
- Oswald Cobblepot — Later bodyguard client. Their exchanges mix paid protection with insults, property disputes, and Victor’s conspicuously relaxed behavior in Oswald’s office 86 210 223 239.
- Butch — Armed opponent during Ririko’s escape. Their confrontation leaves Victor shot and Butch missing his left hand 66 72.
- Dick Grayson — Target of an impulsive knife attack; surprises Victor by evading both blades with a backflip 57.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Falcone Service and Defection
Victor helps Sofia abduct Ririko after she revives during her funeral, then serves as her bodyguard and guard at Falcone Mansion. After she discovers the mechanism behind his attraction, she secures his obedience through a private bargain 52 62.
He later binds and gags Carmine, formally breaks with his employer, and carries Ririko out on horseback. When Butch’s armed men intercept them, Victor sends her toward the woods and faces the ambush 66.
Wayne Household and Departure
Victor joins the Wayne household as Bruce’s private combat instructor. He also accompanies Ririko through the Man in the Mirror investigation and helps destroy the creature that engulfs Professor Tetch 77 78 81 85.
After Bruce outsmarts him in their Christmas training match, Victor quits. He says the household is boring because he cannot kill anyone there and leaves to address a personal matter 100 101.
Revenge Against Bane and Recovery
Ririko finds Victor working at Fish Mooney’s tavern. On Valentine’s Day, he tells her about his mother’s death and his revenge plans, and the two become intimate 128 130 131.
Bane subsequently crushes Victor, who stops breathing and barely responds when Ririko calls to him. Ra’s arranges treatment in Jerusalem because the Salaru Sacred Pool cannot heal the extent of his injuries 134 137.
Victor returns to Gotham with new facial scars, intervenes against a Talon, and protects Oswald while Ririko follows the assassin to the Court of Owls 210.
Bodyguard Work and Life with Ririko
Victor assists with William Cobb’s treatment before moving into Ririko’s apartment. He accompanies her to Carmine’s funeral and becomes increasingly entangled in Bruce’s jealousy 223 224 238 241 242.
During the attack on Wayne Manor, he fights the Death Angel and shields Ririko from Bruce. Bruce disables his gauntlet and throws him toward a wall; Ririko later rescues him before the estate explodes 247 249.
After Ririko returns to Gotham, both initially believe the other has forgotten their shared past. Victor clarifies that he remembers everything, and they quietly reconnect by holding hands while stopped in traffic 294.
