Stars glittered in the night sky, and beneath them, Fisslet was ablaze with lights.

Most of the people now living in the city had bought transparent crystal lamps from the Dwarven shops.

Despite their name, the lamps were actually made of glass, not natural crystal.

The Dwarves had once relied on these intricate objects and their bright light to dispel the darkness of Khazad-dûm, deep within the mountains. Now, those same lights illuminated every household in the city.

The city's main roads were also lit at night to guide pedestrians and make things easier for the patrolling guards.

At first, city rules had required residents who went out at night to carry lit torches. Otherwise, patrol soldiers would take them away for questioning as suspicious persons.

Back then, the guards often said, "Going out this late without a torch? Planning to steal something, are you? Take him away!"

As the town continued to develop, however, the Cabinet had issued the Urban Road Lighting Ordinance under Allen's direction.

Designated workers provided lighting along the main roads during the first half of the night for the residents' convenience. In the latter half, the lights would go out on their own as their fuel ran dry, officially marking the start of curfew. No resident without official business was allowed to leave home.

Even with lighting only during the first half of the night, Fisslet's nightlife had grown much livelier. In summer especially, people who had worked all day would gather their friends and find a spot beside the road with few mosquitoes to chat and enjoy the cool air.

Children who could not sit still at home would also chase one another and play with their friends along the reasonably well-lit roads.

Some business-minded residents made cheap but tasty snacks and refreshing drinks
