Danyla's arrival naturally earned her a warm welcome from the Tyrells and the many other nobles of the Reach. The mountains of food, fine wines, lavish tableware, and decorations in Highgarden's banquet hall also gave her a glimpse of House Tyrell's wealth.
Before the banquet, after her bath, Bethany helped Danyla apply Moon Goddess Balm, produced at Sunhouse Castle, to her body.
Moon Goddess Balm was carefully blended from more than a dozen essential oils, including small-flowered jasmine, rose, lemon balm, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, and sweet orange. Its fragrance was rich and elegant, lingered for hours, and would even give its wearer a natural fragrance with prolonged use.
Most remarkably, although everyone used the same balm, differences in constitution and natural body odor meant that the fragrance each person eventually developed was different. Everyone could acquire a scent uniquely their own.
It did, however, have one effect in common: men who came into close contact with its wearers would develop an irresistible attachment to the scent (this works in real life).
Thus, the balm had become wildly popular among the nobility from the moment it appeared. Each jar fetched the exorbitant price of over a hundred Gold Dragons.
The jasmine blossoms used to extract its main ingredient had to be picked by maidens before sunrise, while the flowers were still half-open. That was why it had been named Moon Goddess.
Long hours riding a great dragon left a sulfurous scent on Danyla's body. Combined with the balm, it produced a wondrous change: her fragrance shifted with her emotions. The more excited she became, the stronger her scent grew.
As a result, whenever Danyla was present, the fragrance she gave off completely overwhelmed the scents of all the other women.
"Your Highness, you smell wonderful!"
"It's strong, but so rich and warm.
