Danyla merely gave Dax a long, searching look without saying anything. Beside her, however, Myracis breathed another blast of searing dragonfire into the sky.
Then she gave Dax a challenging look, as though to say,

After Danyla left with Dax, the youths from Skagos also headed for the pasture where the unicorns were kept. But it was a long way away, and they had yet to arrive.
While waiting for them, Danyla approached the two terrified young unicorns and gently stroked their trembling bodies.

Unicorns were magical creatures with considerable awareness. Perhaps they sensed that Danyla could now protect them, or perhaps it was because Dax had already brought them under his control through skinchanging.
The two little creatures were surprisingly docile in Danyla's presence. When they sensed the rich magical energy in the Purple Diamond bracelet on her wrist, they even began to enjoy her caresses.
Using a dragon's intimidating presence to tame beasts seemed like a good method! With a dragon, the world's most powerful magical creature, at her side, no animal dared act aggressively or unruly before Danyla.
By the time the youths from Skagos reached the unicorn pasture, the two young unicorns were as obedient as a pair of large dogs before Danyla.

"Hello, Watcher, Herb!"
