Power Progression
Myracis advances through magical nourishment, bloodline transformations, and the crystallization of her heart rather than named cultivation realms.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pink hatchling | 7 | Hatches from the egg Danyla had given Baelon and emerges from his funeral pyre. |
| Two-meter hatchling | 23 | Eats over 100 kilograms of roast meat daily; her growth rate has no recorded precedent in Targaryen histories. |
| Three-to-four-meter young dragon | 34 | Abundant food and volcanic magic accelerate her growth. Her scales deepen in color, and red markings appear on her horns and back. |
| Spell-strengthened dragonfire | 50 | Magical resonance with Danyla produces searing purple-pink flames. Danyla confirms that the dragonstone-forging spell also strengthens dragonfire. |
| Weirwood-assisted growth | 58 61 | Establishes her nest beside a magical weirwood. Its fiery energy strengthens her body, while its cold energy improves her wisdom and soul. |
| Three-Eyed Crow absorbed | 62 87 | Devours the Crow’s avatar and its accumulated power. Subsequently reaches seven or eight meters and can easily catch Dreamfyre. |
| Sacrificial-energy enhancement | 119 | Energy released by people killed with dragonfire increases her stamina and magic and makes her mind clearer. |
| Nature Contract resonance | 146 | Her energy resonates with Danyla and the weirwood; her scales acquire a purplish-red tint. |
| Ice-wight nourishment | 180 187 | Eats more than twenty ice wights. Her appetite increases, and she begins growing visibly larger each day. |
| Sea Dragon heart absorbed | 194 | Swallows a heart rich in ice magic, which her weirwood bond allows her to absorb despite its unusual energy. |
| Fifteen-meter transformation | 201 | A stream of flame envelops her harmlessly, rapidly expanding her body from just over ten meters to approximately fifteen. |
| Expanded flight anatomy | 302 | Recorded at just under twenty meters, with a wingspan exceeding sixty meters, five wing digits, and an additional pair of wings on her hind legs. Her growth is attributed to the Crow, the Heart of Winter, and her weirwood pact. |
| Improved combat speed | 388 | Rivalry with Rafa drives another substantial improvement in speed during the Dornish campaign. |
| Approaching Seasmoke’s size | 402 | In fewer than three years, nearly catches up with Seasmoke, who is already over ten years old. |
| Forty-to-fifty-meter dragon | 451 | Develops fine pale-gold scales along the edges of her purplish-red wings. |
| Deep One transformation | 483 | Absorbs the monster’s blue mist and consumes its crystal. Reaches sixty or seventy meters, develops purple-gold scale patterns, and unleashes purple-gold dragonfire with Danyla. |
| Post-dormancy growth | 549 | Returns after more than ten years in the Swamp of the Marshfolk, now over seventy meters long. |
| Partially crystallized heart | 551 | After absorbing the Storm God’s manifestation, nearly half her heart is purple crystal. Magical absorption and storage increase; she is assessed as probably second only to Rafa among the Great Dragons. |
| Spatial aspect manifested | 566 | Precisely lifts and swallows a shoal of giant trout. Danyla connects the apparent spatial ability to her crystallizing heart. |
| Fully crystallized heart | 580 | After absorbing the Fair Isle monster’s sacrificial energy and hunting for half a year, reaches one hundred meters. Her bloodline abilities fully awaken, including tracking, immobilizing dragonfire and sustained top-speed flight. |
Appearance
- Coloration: Originally powder-pink, with pinkish-purple slit pupils. Her scales later deepen toward pinkish-purple and purplish-red 14 34 146.
- Early markings: Faint red markings develop on her horns and along her back as she grows 34.
- Flight anatomy: Five digits on each wing and an additional pair of wings on her hind legs distinguish her from ordinary Great Dragons 302.
- Golden ornamentation: Pale-gold edging appears on her wings; the Deep One transformation later spreads golden areas across them and turns her scale edging into intricate purple-gold patterns 451 483.
- Eyes: Her pupils are described as purple-gold in later appearances 377 577.
- Mature size: Reaches one hundred meters in length, with scales radiating regal purple-red light during flight 580.
Personality
Myracis is intensely attached to Danyla. As a hatchling, she wakes her by rubbing against her like a hungry puppy; later, she eagerly seeks praise and performs aerial maneuvers to show off her growth. The dragon reference identifies her as the most dependent on Danyla of all her dragons 14 87 302.
Her affection is matched by fierce protectiveness. She places herself between Danyla and threatening dragons, shields her from Dax, and forces her way into a cavern to rescue her from a Deep One. She usually obeys Danyla even when reluctant, though she briefly disregards a recall order to retrieve living lizard-lion cubs 29 54 165 171 483.
Proud, competitive, and quick-tempered, Myracis refuses to yield merely because another dragon is larger. She attacks Syrax over food, challenges Seasmoke, and resents Rafa taking the leading role in battle. Her rivalry with Rafa eventually improves her speed 38 110 379 381 388.
Food initially overrides much of her dignity: she gulps down prey, takes food from other dragons, and maintains an enormous appetite. After her heart fully crystallizes, she barely needs to eat because incinerated prey supplies her with pure energy 111 267 402 580.
Abilities & Skills
Dragonfire
Myracis possesses unusually hot, explosive dragonfire whose properties strengthen alongside her bloodline 191 194 580.
- Magical amplification: Danyla’s spells and shared energy can increase the flames’ strength 50 61 587.
- Siege destruction: Burns through fortifications, destroys arrow towers, and melts rock; Danyla empowers her to destroy a giant-ballista tower with a Fire Dragon Bomb 385 401 575.
- Long-range bombardment: Can launch explosive purple dragonfire and kill an enormous sea beast from one thousand meters above the surface 551.
- Tracking and restraint: After full heart crystallization, her flames pursue fleeing prey and immobilize it once it is engulfed 580.
- Venom destruction: Vaporizes a giant wyvern’s venom, although the resulting poisonous mist still spreads through the surrounding air 457.
Flight and Wind Control
Speed and aerial maneuverability are among Myracis’s defining strengths, supported by her unusual wing anatomy and later wind-gathering power 302 551.
- Keeps pace with Dreamfyre while still a young dragon and readily evades dragonfire during aerial disputes 53 87 110.
- Uses sharp climbs, twists, and low-altitude flight to evade attacks and strike confined targets 381 458.
- Generates hurricane-force winds capable of driving back a monster’s escaping black mist 579.
- Maintains her highest flight speed after her heart fully crystallizes; later dives toward a Deep-Sea Behemoth amid sonic booms 580 587.
- Her early speed is not unmatched: she must exert herself to keep up with Rafa’s leisurely flight when Rafa first joins Danyla 379.
Physical Combat
Myracis combines claws, jaws, tail strikes, and rapid changes of direction rather than relying solely on fire 458 578.
- Shatters incoming bolts with her tail and deflects others with the armor on her wings 385 388 479.
- Tears through wyvern throats and bellies while using her jaws and tail to control opponents 458.
- Uses diving claw attacks against the highly magic-resistant Devourer, ripping open its armored back 578.
- Crushes a Deep-Sea Behemoth’s exposed crystal with her claws and consumes the fragments 587.
Weirwood Bond and Energy Absorption
Her connection with weirwoods allows her to benefit from multiple forms of magical energy, including cold and sinister power that other dragons find less appealing 61 62 194.
- Absorbs bodily nourishment from fiery magic and mental or spiritual nourishment from cold energy 61.
- Consumes magical entities, ice wights, monster crystals, and a Sea Dragon’s ice-rich heart 62 180 194 483.
- Maintains rapid growth in the magically dense weirwood environment around High Heart 478.
- Returns power to the Holy Flame Island weirwood after her own transformation 206.
- Danyla experiences an ancient struggle between land creatures and sea monsters through Myracis’s memory in a dragon dream; together, they synchronize with an enormous tree through the Song of Blood and Fire 145.
Telepathy and Magical Awareness
Myracis and Danyla share two-way telepathic communication, allowing them to exchange commands, feelings, and warnings 87 171 302.
- Conveys hunger, urgency, and satisfaction directly to Danyla 171 373.
- Shares her senses with Danyla through dragon dreams 61 145.
- Warns of unusual magic at the Isle of Faces and detects dangerous sea-monster activity 165 577.
- Can perceive another mutated Great Dragon’s consciousness-transmitted speech 377.
- Shares power with Danyla during their escape from the Deep One 483.
Crystal Heart and Bloodline Powers
Myracis’s heart crystallizes naturally, increasing her magical capacity and ultimately awakening her mature bloodline abilities 551 580.
- Energy storage: Partial crystallization greatly improves both absorption efficiency and the amount of magic she can retain 551.
- Spatial manipulation: Danyla observes an apparent spatial aspect when Myracis lifts and consumes a shoal with exceptional precision 566.
- Immobilization: A purple glow from her heart pins the Fair Isle monster’s true body in place 579.
- Energy-based nourishment: Incinerated prey becomes pure energy flowing back into her body 580.
- Sacred presence: Widespread worship gives her the bearing of a demigod, though the text does not establish a formal divine rank 580.
Regeneration and Limits
Blood-sacrifice energy can stop Myracis’s bleeding and restore serious wounds, but she remains physically vulnerable 385 587.
- Recovers from ballista wounds after feeding on corpses and receiving sacrificial energy 385.
- Heals an enormous wing gash and numerous ice-blade wounds during the battle with a Sea Dragon 587.
- Wildfire bombs burn small holes through her wings 373.
- Devourer’s shriek makes her dizzy, and its tongue temporarily traps her 578.
- Multiple Deep-Sea Behemoths can obstruct her escape despite her speed and continuous dragonfire 587.
Background / History
Hatching and the Name Myracis
Myracis hatches during Baelon’s funeral from the egg Danyla had previously given him. The pink hatchling crawls out of the pyre’s ashes toward Danyla, who takes her into her arms. Danyla proposes the name, and Jaehaerys publicly celebrates the dragon’s arrival as a hopeful event for House Targaryen 7.
Her name honors Myracis, an ancient Valyrian goddess of art, and recalls an earlier Targaryen dragon of the same name. That historical dragon carried Rhaenys and was struck in the eye by a poisoned ballista bolt at Hellholt; she is distinct from Danyla’s dragon 7 359 385.
The Weirwood and the Three-Eyed Crow
After discovering the benefits of a young magical weirwood, Myracis moves her gemstones and nest beside it and becomes reluctant to leave. Danyla surrounds the site with enormous dragonstones to shelter her 58.
The Three-Eyed Crow subsequently attacks Danyla through a dragon dream. Myracis burns its crow manifestations while Danyla strengthens her fire. When the weirwood cuts off the intruder’s connection, Myracis devours the stranded avatar, gaining nourishment for her soul and accelerating her growth 61 62 87.
Northern Journey and the Sea Dragon
During Danyla’s northern travels, Myracis hunts lizard-lions in the Neck and brings back five living cubs. At Winterfell, she helps open heavy stone coffins, eats more than twenty ice wights, and transports over one hundred remaining bodies out of the crypts 170 171 179 180.
She later joins Dreamfyre and Little Balerion against a Sea Dragon, attacking its head from behind. After its death, she consumes its magically charged heart. A subsequent flame-induced transformation increases her length to approximately fifteen meters 194 201.
Battles and the Dornish Campaign
Myracis helps Dreamfyre defeat the Purple Prince, then remains with Antheros to guard him after Danyla stabilizes his life through the weirwood growing on him 335.
In Dorne, she burns woodland occupied by enemy forces but is ambushed with contaminated slurry and wildfire bombs. The bombs damage her wings, while Danyla struggles against invading cursed water magic 372 373 374.
At Skyreach, Harman of Hellholt attempts to repeat the death of her historical namesake. Myracis survives two ballista strikes, destroys his tower, kills its defenders, and begins healing through sacrificial energy. She later breaches Hellholt’s defenses and destroys the warlocks operating a giant ballista 384 385 401 402.
Construction in the Mountains of Myr
Myracis supervises Isilia’s three young dragons while they tunnel through the Mountains of Myr and lay roads between Reclea and the Kingdom of the Rhoynar. Three years of work wears away many scales; fragments mixed into the forged dragonstone leave the resulting avenue faintly luminous at night 451.
Crackclaw Point and the Deep One
After Danyla is trapped inside a Deep One, Myracis helps destroy the gill-men’s ritual platform and forces much of her body into its underground cavern. She shares power with Danyla, and their combined purple-gold dragonfire destroys the monster. Consuming its crystal expands her to sixty or seventy meters 483.
Myracis subsequently spends more than ten years dormant in the Swamp of the Marshfolk. When she rejoins Danyla, she is over seventy meters long and has laid seven differently colored eggs, each half again as large as an ordinary Dragon Egg. Their parentage is not specified in the supplied account 549.
Storm God and Sea-Monster Wars
Myracis and Rafa consume the Storm God’s manifestation at Danyla’s command, ending his attempt to return. Myracis’s increasingly crystalline heart and newly developed attacks place her among Danyla’s strongest dragons 551.
Devourer later draws Danyla and Myracis away from Fair Isle, enabling another monster to attack Sheepstealer and Shirei. Despite their counterattack, they cannot prevent the pair’s fatal injuries. Myracis helps pin the monster in place during Danyla’s blood-sacrifice retaliation 578 579.
Following the monster’s destruction, Danyla rides Myracis on daily hunts across the Sunset and Summer Seas. Over half a year, Myracis reaches one hundred meters and completes her heart’s crystallization. Her latest recorded battle pits them against several Deep-Sea Behemoths and a concealed Sea Dragon; the fighting remains unresolved 580 587.
