Karen had long since seen through Twilight's intentions. To help bring his beloved Anya and Damian together as a couple, he merely teased Twilight a little as a token gesture before letting him go.
His punishment amounted to nothing more than cleaning one playground, two classrooms, and three offices.
It had to be said that a top spy's efficiency was astonishing. Twilight actually finished all those tasks in just half an hour.
With nothing else to do, Karen decided to follow Twilight and see exactly how he planned to move things forward.
As a top assassin, Karen was every bit Twilight's equal in disguise and perception. And with Twilight's attention completely consumed by Anya, Karen was almost certain to go unnoticed as long as he did nothing to deliberately draw his attention.
So, from nine o'clock until 10:50, Karen followed silently behind Twilight. What Twilight did truly stunned him.
In science class, the teacher was explaining how sunlight reflected off surfaces.
Twilight deftly produced a mirror and used the reflected light to project a few words at Anya's feet: [Good child's fortune: today is a good day to apologize.]
By language arts class, Twilight had tampered with Anya's textbook, too. The other students' books told a story about perseverance, but when Anya opened hers, what greeted her was a passage about apologizing.
As she turned the pages, Anya suddenly felt an invisible pressure. A flicker of confusion and shock crossed her eyes. Could this really be the will of God?!
For the sake of world peace, Anya resolved to apologize.
Even the physical education class Karen taught had not escaped Twilight's "arrangements."
The lesson plan Karen had originally prepared was "Children should exercise more," but at some point, it had been changed to [Today's physical education lesson: friendship between classmates is very important. Do not dwell on minor squabbles. If something unpleasant happens, everyone should apologize calmly.]
Even the lesson plan he had prepared just to get through inspections had been altered. That was Twilight for you.
But since someone had kindly written it for him, he might as well use it. It wasn't as though it would cost him anything.
With his personality, how could he possibly write lesson plans himself?
But not writing them meant getting his pay docked, so he had simply found two online to copy. Now that he had one ready-made, he couldn't have been happier.
Twilight spent the entire morning running around over the matter of "apologizing."
Karen leaned against a large tree with a blade of grass between his lips, watching the children playing freely on the playground.
A gentle breeze brushed past, rustling the leaves. He narrowed his eyes slightly and murmured to himself, "A life where children can play without a care really is wonderful. I just don't know how much longer this false peace will last."
His gaze turned to Anya and Becky, who had been ostracized. Strangely, despite being excluded, they seemed quite happy to Karen, as though the others hadn't isolated them at all, and they had chosen to keep their distance instead.
Becky Blackbell was certainly no ordinary girl.
Soon, it was time for lunch.
As a dedicated food lover, Karen dismissed his class five minutes ahead of the students and headed to the cafeteria, where he ordered a huge pile of food at the counter Twilight was helping out at.
Twilight now felt that capitalism had conned him. Ever since disguising himself as a school employee, he had been run off his feet. First, he had posed as a cleaner and cleaned a huge area. Now he was working as a kitchen assistant, frantically cooking dish after dish. Were they working him like a Japanese employee or what?!!!
Just then, the head chef called out, "Kitchen assistant, next up is egg fried rice for student Anya Forger."
"On it!" Hearing that familiar name, Twilight felt a surge of joy. Once he finished this fried rice, he planned to switch identities and escape this miserable job.
After Anya and Becky collected their meals, Becky looked at the English letters on Anya's rice, her face full of confusion. "'Sorry'? Your rice is so weird, Anya. This whole morning has felt strange."
Just then, Damian finished ordering and walked over.
The moment Anya saw him, she stood up to go apologize. "Ah, Second Son. Gotta apologize."
Becky quickly grabbed her. "You don't have to! He's the one in the wrong."
Nearby, Twilight, who had switched to a new identity as a waiter, saw this and nearly fumed. This was the second time that little brat Becky had interfered with Anya's apology plan. He had to get her out of the way.
Before long, an announcement rang through the cafeteria. "Becky Blackbell of first-year Class 3, please report to Student Hall A immediately."
Becky looked thoroughly annoyed at the announcement. "How annoying! I'm eating!"
Twilight kept watching them. When he saw that Becky still hadn't come, he urged her again over the speakers. "Please report there at once!"
Could it really be something urgent? Becky could only hurry off.
Once Becky left, Anya realized this was the perfect opportunity to apologize.
Her little legs pattered as she ran to Damian's table and peeked out from the other side, then quickly walked around to stand near him. Her two fingers tapped together unconsciously, her eyes filled with nerves and hesitation as she stammered, "Um, um..."
Seeing this, Emile and Ewen hurriedly put down their bowls and utensils and stood between Anya and Damian, shouting, "W-what do you want now? Are you looking for a fight?!"
"If you hadn't attacked him by surprise last time, Lord Damian would never have lost to someone like you."
"That's enough. Move aside..." Damian interrupted them.
For some reason, hearing them insult Anya stirred a feeling of displeasure inside Damian.
He slowly approached Anya and stopped about a meter away from her. He opened his mouth to speak, but all that came out was, "Mm, mm, mm..."
Why?!
Why?!!
Why can't I say anything whenever this girl stands in front of me?!!!
And what's going on? I actually think she's kind of cute!!!
Ewen and Emile, however, interpreted his behavior quite differently.
Ewen's eyes shone with admiration. So cool, Lord Damian! That's our Lord Damian for you. You must be thinking this through carefully. Finish her off with a single sentence! Show this hideously ugly little runt what you're made of!
Emile also looked expectant. Lord Damian, what exactly are you going to say? Make this penniless pauper wish she could crawl into a hole! If Damian had heard their thoughts, he probably would have wanted to kill them.
Ugly? A little runt?
What's ugly about her? Answer me! And those legs are obviously cute, okay?!!
Hearing the insults in their thoughts, Anya panicked inside. But for the sake of peace, she still mustered her courage. "I'm sorry I hit you out of nowhere. Anya actually wants to get along with you!!"
As she spoke, tears kept spilling uncontrollably, sliding down her cheeks and leaving trails behind. Her mouth opened wide as she sobbed, seemingly unable to hold back her whimpers. She looked utterly distraught.
