Background / History

Historical appearances of Saitan

Blue Star has records of at least four appearances of Saitan, a celestial phenomenon that scientists identify as the projection of an Otherworld passage rather than a true planet. Its earliest recorded appearance dates to the dawn of human civilization. Each appearance lasted more than a month, with Saitan growing larger and the intervals between appearances shortening 2.

The previous appearance occurred two hundred years before the initial experiment, when Saitan looked approximately as large as the sun. Scientists predicted that a later manifestation might become a genuine passage and begin merging the two worlds. Blue Star’s nations signed a secret agreement ten years before the experiment to address this possibility at any cost 2.

The Saitan experiment

Huaguo established an underground base to send selected young people’s consciousnesses into Saitan World through dreams. Candidates shared a birth date and birthplace, experienced dreams connected to that world, and underwent testing before entering Zero-Type sleeping pods. Their mission was to investigate supernatural powers and, if possible, learn to use them 2.

An unknown energy breached the base’s defenses during the experiment, damaging most of the pods and causing Saitan to disappear. Only three pods remained operational. Ding Yu, subsequently known as Wang Yu, became the only successful returnee; Xu Ting and another participant remained missing, with their consciousnesses’ fate unresolved 2 67 510.

The future brought back by the Ark Team

The Ark Team traveled from a future Blue Star still facing annihilation despite Mecha technology and Kree assistance. Its members brought technological information and systems into the present to improve humanity’s prospects 394 399 434.

In that future, the British Commonwealth dominated the early Blue Star Alliance. Discriminatory policies treated many people of Asian descent as expendable, while Huaguo lost more than half its population when the catastrophe first struck. Subsequent manpower shortages forced the Alliance to rely on cloned soldiers. Later policies encouraged population growth and the development of Asian talent, but these followed the catastrophic losses 396 434.

That future also abandoned contact with Saitan World: national leaders destroyed the forming Otherworld passage with heavy nuclear warheads. An Immortal Cultivator nevertheless appeared briefly on a future interstellar battlefield and demonstrated tremendous power 445.

These events are not an inevitable future for the present Blue Star. Ye Xi states that the Ark Team’s intervention and earlier contact with the Kree fleet have already changed the course of history; the travelers’ accounts can only serve as reference 419.

Nations and Locations

Nation / Location Description
Huaguo One of Blue Star’s two strongest powers and its leading Eastern power. Hosts the Saitan Base and remains the core of the Saitan Project 396 434 435.
British Commonwealth Blue Star’s strongest nation. Possesses a Superpower Corps and advanced cloning research; its future leadership of the Alliance is a major source of Huaguo’s distrust 79 394 396 434.
Fabaike A great power Dr. Chen considers involving in the expanded Saitan effort 434.
Xierde A federal nation among Blue Star’s ten largest by territory. Its provinces are effectively semi-independent, gangs control many regions, and much of its military has been infiltrated 373.
South La Province A British Commonwealth border province adjoining Xierde 373.
Linbin Town A small town with fewer than one thousand inhabitants 373.
Saitan Base Huaguo’s underground Otherworld research facility, equipped with Zero-Type pods and the Taiyuan Superbrain 2 73.
  • Ordinary life: Blue Star has universities, internet access, news media, and public venues offering Star River Game Pods 40 373 395.
  • Political conditions: Most countries enjoy peace, in contrast to Xierde’s prolonged unrest 373.
  • International cooperation: Leading powers hold annual technology-exchange conferences and must share their assigned research results, although funding and personnel limit how deeply other countries can use them 394.
  • National rivalry: Cooperation does not eliminate secrecy. Huaguo withholds sensitive findings to prevent Western powers from monopolizing the prospective Alliance 396.

Science and Technology

Superbrains and Optical Brains

  • Accelerated development: Superbrains have driven rapid advances in the major powers’ technologies. Helena recognizes that they could not have been built using contemporary Blue Star technology 81.
  • Taiyuan: Huaguo’s sole superintelligent computer is built around Photon Chips brought from the future, including chips left by people who died during the crossing 67 399.
  • Future personal assistants: Almost every future human consciousness is bound to a Personal Optical Brain Assistant System. These systems assist with work, education, and psychological care; binding is required for Alliance citizenship 399.
  • Integration: Standard integration uses an implanted chip, a brain-computer interface, and extensive training. The resulting higher-dimensional connection to mental power cannot be transferred or reversed 447.
  • Celestial Persons: Approximately one person in a million can naturally integrate with an assistant system without an implanted chip or intermediary training 447.
  • Limits: Dr. Chen states that Optical Brains cannot develop true self-awareness 399.

Zero-Type Sleeping Pods

  • Only a few hundred units exist worldwide because their key components require a material exceptionally rare on Blue Star 2.
  • Nutrient solution allows users to remain safely asleep for years, and each pod carries a Taiyuan subsystem 2.
  • The Saitan mission expected roughly one month of sleep on Blue Star, but researchers warned that time in the other world could pass at a different—and changing—rate 2.

Cloning

  • British Commonwealth research advanced from limited animal-cloning success to nearly perfect adult clones within a few years, aided by extraordinary technological support 394.
  • Cloned soldiers have unresolved lifespan defects. Their mental power is fixed at creation and cannot increase through Star Thought Power cultivation 397.
  • Stronger, more perfect clones require more time and resources to produce. Blue Star lacks the resources to mass-produce high-level clones 397.

Mecha and Military Technology

  • The major powers’ immediate technological goal is to manufacture the Mecha depicted in Star River. Research assignments include related materials such as light particle nerves 394.
  • Kree observers identify Blue Star’s Mecha as adaptations of their Armored Puppet Technology. Some resources needed for star-class Mecha exist only in the Kree Crystal Wall World 419.
  • Existing military capabilities include large drone deployments. Wang Yu also considers military satellite lasers and heavy bombardment serious threats that his spells and magical artifacts could not withstand 371 428.
  • Huaguo’s base uses an experimental ion force-field device 67.

Supernatural Powers and Environmental Conditions

Native Power Systems

System Documented Structure / Function
Supernatural abilities Western researchers classify abilities into thirteen categories and five ranks. Huaguo has trained two B-rank superhumans, while Helena identifies herself as a Double-A user closest to S-rank on Blue Star 67 79.
Star Thought Power A nine-level mental cultivation system for Mech Pilots, developed by the future Alliance’s five great S-rank psychic users over thirty years from the Kree Royal Psychic Secret Art 71.
Mecha star ranks Each Star Thought Power level corresponds to a Mecha star rank. Higher mental power enables control of more advanced Mecha and thought-based attacks through them 71.
  • Star stones: Star Thought Power cultivation consumes meteorites containing special energy. Roughly one in ten Blue Star meteorites is a star stone, but the planet’s total supply is scarce 83 418.
  • Adaptation trade-off: Compared with the Kree technique, Star Thought Power relies more heavily on star stones to awaken human potential and accelerate cultivation, but loses the original technique’s lifespan-extension benefit 418.
  • Advanced training restrictions: Cultivation beyond the third layer requires official Mech Pilot status and qualifying service merits. A supplementary clause permits verified pure-blooded Blue Star humans meeting the cultivation requirement to learn layers four through six without those merits 405.
  • Secrecy and enforcement: Alliance law restricts disclosure of Star Thought Power and its use against ordinary citizens. Implanted thought-power shackles are stated to detonate a violator’s Star Thought Power 71.

Differences from the Cultivation World

  • Spiritual energy remains uncertain: Dr. Chen searches for possible sources and spirit veins on Blue Star; artificial spiritual energy and artificial spirit veins are proposed alternatives, not established achievements 73.
  • Different mental-power environments: Divine sense is severely suppressed on Blue Star, while Star Thought Power and Wang Yu’s Metal-Dowsing Art regain much greater strength there. Star Thought Power is instead weakened in the Cultivation World 416 457 458.
  • Limited spell use: Wang Yu casts minor spells on Blue Star using stored yin energy from his banner, conserving the finite supply while escaping a foreign base 371.
  • Transferable body training: The Black Tiger Breathing Method and Four Beast Diagram do not require heaven and earth spiritual energy. Huaguo soldiers demonstrate extraordinary strength and mobility after practicing them, making the methods valuable for Mech Pilot preparation 447.
  • Technology transfer is unreliable: Dr. Chen reports that more advanced Blue Star technologies appear more likely to be weakened in the Cultivation World, prompting interest in rugged, simplified equipment 450.

Star River

  • Origin: Designed by the future Blue Star Alliance and copied into the present by the Ark Team using special means 450.
  • Underlying system: Uses core material from the Kree People and is, in a certain sense, the product of a joint simulation by future Blue Star’s Three Great Optical Brains 450.
  • Autonomy: Operates automatically according to rules beyond anyone’s control 450.
  • Training role: Provides Mecha combat experience, Star Thought Power instruction, and official Mech Pilot assessments 71 404 406.
  • Future personnel: People encountered in special training scenarios are projections of future Alliance personnel 421.
  • Communication: Maintains the Ark Team’s connection to future Blue Star. Communication with Wang Yu across worlds remains a research objective 449 450.
  • Military service: Dr. Chen confirms that the associated future service is real and will cause tremendous casualties; Wang Yu’s identification of its countdown with the catastrophe’s arrival remains speculation 395 421.

Kree Contact and World Convergence

  • Official contact: Ye Xi says the Kree envoys came at the invitation of Blue Star’s leader, whose identity he does not disclose 417.
  • Shared origin: He claims that Kree People and Blue Star natives share a source of life, with different environments producing different races 417.
  • Actual mission: The envoys observe Blue Star for the Seventeenth Fleet, investigating whether it will become a Space-Time Chaos Zone where several great worlds converge 418.
  • Threat assessment: They also investigate whether the empire’s great enemy—the “Locusts”—will appear in Blue Star’s star domain and whether humanity can resist them 418.
  • Evidence from Saitan: Kelly identifies Saitan as a typical sign of world contact and space-time chaos. Its immense power blocks almost all Kree detection methods, but the envoys still require further evidence to confirm convergence 418.
  • Conditional assistance: The fleet is assessing Blue Star’s military equipment and requests for support. Transporting resources across crystal walls is costly, and intervention is not guaranteed 418 419.

Major Research and Survival Projects

Project Purpose and Status
Saitan Project Obtain supernatural knowledge from Saitan World to help Blue Star survive. Initially used dream-based consciousness crossings; later expands toward cooperation between Huaguo, the British Commonwealth, and the Ark Team 446 433 435.
Spiritual-energy investigation Search domestic and foreign locations for spiritual energy, compare Huaguo’s religious records with Otherworld findings, and consider artificial substitutes 73.
Sky-Opening Plan Establish a new world as humanity’s retreat route. Wang Yu, designated No. 1 and the plan’s “Pangu,” is central because of his suspected ability to cross repeatedly 435.
Cross-world industrial development Teach Wang Yu to reproduce basic generators, machine tools, gunpowder, firearms, and alloys under primitive conditions, potentially enabling a Blue Star technological infrastructure in the Cultivation World 450.
  • Controversial fallback: The Alliance Council had rejected the Sky-Opening Plan, and most simulations had failed. Dr. Chen nevertheless pushes for renewed consideration, while Huaguo commits manpower and resources 434 448.
  • Strategic discoveries: Spirit inscriptions, cultivation methods, and Wang Yu’s repeat crossings are considered possible means of improving Blue Star’s survival prospects 447.
  • Operational priority: The Sky-Opening Group instructs Wang Yu to preserve his life and return safely before attempting secondary missions. It recommends establishing a faction to shelter experiments and gather cultivation resources 468.
  • Hybrid designs: Blue Star technology influences Wang Yu’s magical artifacts, including Star River-inspired Floating Cannons and the seventeen-component Flame Demon Star Armor, which combines magical-artifact construction with exoskeleton technology 151 511 558.
