At the Morning Court Assembly, Martial Virtue Star Lord tried to undermine Chen Wei’s appointment as Chief of the Discipline Inspection Court, but Chen Wei turned the accusations back on him by declaring his loyalty to the Great Heavenly Venerable. Just as the confrontation seemed over, Big Dipper Star Lord launched a new insinuation against Chen Wei.
Taibai Jinxing defended Chen Wei’s record of risking his life to quell the Tongtian River rebellion, turning the criticism of his fishing into an accusation against the Heavenly Court’s military officers. The Great Heavenly Venerable charged Chen Wei with diligently serving the newly established Discipline Inspection Court, and Chen pledged his loyalty.
After Taibai Jinxing warned Chen Wei to settle the Golden-Winged Great Peng case without compromising the Heavenly Court’s laws, Chen Wei and his subordinates debated how to act. Chen decided the Great Peng had to die and ordered them to find Yellow Brows.
Chen Wei visited Sun Wukong on Flower-Fruit Mountain to explain the Golden-Winged Great Peng’s crimes, while Yang Chan accompanied him as the newly appointed deputy director of the Discipline Inspection Court. Sun Wukong tacitly approved the Heavenly Court’s action, and Chen Wei inferred a way to make the Great Peng’s death look accidental.
Chen Wei reassured Yang Chan about their future before they returned to the Heavenly Court, while Sun Wukong reflected on his lonely origins with Little Macaque. Meanwhile, Yellow Brows arrived to free the trapped Golden-Winged Great Peng, Azure Lion, and White Elephant Spirit, warning them to fly north; the Great Peng accepted despite his unease.
After Yellow Brows freed the Golden-Winged Great Peng, Azure Lion, and White Elephant Spirit, the three demons ignored his instructions and fled south, where they were caught causing trouble. Spirit Mountain learned that the Heavenly Court expected the demons to face punishment, and Manjushri and Samantabhadra set out for Lingxiao Palace to answer for them.
Manjushri and Samantabhadra brought Guanyin and the Sandalwood Merit Buddha to Lingxiao Palace as the Heavenly Court prepared to punish the Three Demons. The Great Heavenly Venerable ordered Chen Wei to propose a plan, and Chen Wei suggested sparing the demons only if they survived the overwhelming force sent to capture them.
Chen Wei secured the Heavenly Court's approval to send Sun Wukong alongside its forces against the Three Demons. At Spirit Mountain, Tathagata Buddha refused to save the Golden-Winged Great Peng and tried to stop the Peacock Buddha Mother from intervening, but she pleaded to rescue her brother.
Chen Wei closed the case against the Three Demons and endured Yang Chan’s jealous interrogation, which revealed that Lu'er and Zi'er had also visited him. After learning that the Nine-Headed Lion had slipped away from the Palace of Sublime Grandeur, Chen Wei decided to use the report as a reason to visit Great Emperor Qinghua.
Chen Wei met with Heavenly Lord Taiyi about the Nine-Headed Lion and agreed to resolve the old injustice involving the Yellow Lion Spirit through the Censorate. Yang Chan planned to borrow treasures from Yang Jian to help Chen Wei deal with the powerful Nine-Headed Lion.
Yang Chan raided Yang Jian’s treasure vault to arm Chen Wei, taking nearly all his treasures and leaving her brother a Sauce-Glazed Duck. She flew toward Chen Wei, while he felt an ominous shiver in the Heavenly Court.
Chen Wei told Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie that the Nine-Headed Lion had returned to Bamboo Joint Mountain, seeking justice for the slain Yellow Lion Spirit. Sun Wukong agreed to retrieve the spirit’s soul from the Netherworld, leaving Chen Wei confident that the matter could be resolved.
Chen Wei went to Bamboo Joint Mountain with Yang Chan’s Magical Treasures to negotiate with the Nine-Headed Lion, while Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie set off to retrieve the Yellow Lion Spirit’s soul. The Nine-Headed Lion attacked Chen Wei on sight, but Yang Chan protected him with the Treasure Lotus Lamp, leaving Chen Wei to begin speaking with the unharmed demon.
Chen Wei and Yang Chan met the Nine-Headed Lion at Bamboo Joint Mountain and offered a way to bring the Yellow Lion Spirit back from the Netherworld as a Heavenly Court official. The Nine-Headed Lion accepted the arrangement and denied having any grudges against the Great Sage or Marshal Tianpeng.
Chen Wei secured the Nine-Headed Lion’s support for the Yellow Lion Spirit’s return to life, while Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie persuaded King Yama to approve it in the Netherworld. The chapter left Judge Lu arranging a forged award certificate to justify the Yellow Lion Spirit’s resurrection.
The Yellow Lion Spirit was given a Heavenly Court post after being pushed through a ghost-catching competition scheme, while Chen Wei returned home and was trapped into eating Yang Chan’s unusual tangyuan. Yang Jian arrived to summon Yang Chan to Yaochi and assigned Chen Wei an unspecified task, leaving Chen Wei ready to comply and Yang Chan worried about whether he could handle it.
Chen Wei traveled to the West Sea on Yang Jian’s orders, where Ao Cunxin’s resentment and Ao Run’s conspicuous eagerness suggested that the supposedly minor assignment concealed serious trouble. He entered the Dragon Palace wary of what awaited him.
Chen Wei met with Ao Run to discuss the Heavenly Court’s inquiry into the West Sea’s control of Jade Wave Pool and promised the Discipline Inspection Court would scrutinize the case. He then asked about Nine-Headed Bug, and suggested that if he could not be found, they should treat him as dead.
Chen Wei and Ao Run devised a plan to use official records declaring the Nine-Headed Bug dead to turn the Jade Wave Pool dispute into a broader investigation. After Chen Wei escaped the Dragon King's attempt to entertain him with Clam Maidens, Yang Chan set out for the West Sea to protect him.
Chen Wei and Ma Muzhi suspected that the West Sea Dragon King was an impostor and set a trap to expose whoever was behind him. Ao Cunxin then confronted Chen Wei about Yang Jian and hinted at the Dragon King’s birthday and tea, leaving Chen Wei to realize the apparent clue might connect to Yang Chan.
Chen Wei uncovered Ao Cunxin’s coded warning that the real West Sea Dragon King was imprisoned in the Sea Eye and sent Ma Muzhi to summon reinforcements. He confronted the impostor in the great hall and threatened to expose him with Sun Wukong’s Fiery Golden Eyes.
Chen Wei tried to expose Ao Run as an impostor, but the Demon-Revealing Mirror showed him as a genuine dragon. Sun Wukong arrived unexpectedly and claimed Chen Wei had told him about the suspected fraud, leaving Chen Wei alarmed by the Great Sage’s strange behavior.
Chen Wei’s plan exposed the impostor ruling the West Sea, and the Nine-Headed Bug was revealed as the false Ao Run. Surrounded by Heavenly forces, the demon faced Yang Jian’s Howling Celestial Dog.
Chen Wei and Yang Chan, disguised as Sun Wukong, freed Ao Run from the Sea Eye by shrinking the Sea-Calming Jade Pillar. Meanwhile, Wu Ji confronted Pang Long at the Censorate over forged documents, and Pang Long refused to hand over the case files without an Imperial Decree.
Wu Ji tried to force the Censorate to hand over Chen Wei’s case files, but Chen Wei exposed the danger of Wu Ji’s false accusation and detained him for investigation. Wu Ji agreed to cooperate, leaving Chen Wei ready to question him about his backers and accomplices.
