The Ghost Gods from the Second Layer thought there were not many local Ghost Gods beyond the blue sky and white clouds.
Though few in number themselves, they could still hold their own against the other side once they charged out.
But after howling and charging out in a mighty throng, they discovered that there were far too many enemies.
Everywhere they looked, there were local Ghost Gods.
Their own bodies were already towering, like mountains.
But the local Ghost Gods were even more imposing, like mountains atop mountains.
The local Ghost Gods looked down at them, their eyes full of mockery and disdain. "Twelve foreign Ghost Gods, and you dare come here to stir up trouble?"
"Who gave you the courage?"
"The Mortal World's All-Under-Heaven Dao Court? Or the Ghost Emperors of the Five Directions from your First Layer of the Underworld?"
The Ghost Gods from the Second Layer of the Underworld remained silent.
The local Ghost Gods glared, bending down again to roar, "Answer us!"
One Ghost God from the Second Layer of the Underworld looked up and sneered. "You curs, we came to save you."
"And yet you show no gratitude. You truly chill a ghost's heart."
"Had we known you were so willing to wallow in depravity, we would never have come."
The local Ghost Gods threw back their heads and laughed. "We rule this entire Underworld. With no Ghost Emperors lording it over us, we can prey on the locals and run rampant wherever we please. What happiness and freedom!"
"How could the likes of you understand the joy of it?"
One local Ghost God even roared, "The Third Layer of the Underworld has been this way since its birth."
