Ch. 121Money

Du Yu and his companions helped Chada cover up Lizzie’s murder of Martha, but Du Yu stopped Chada from defiling the corpse and challenged his attitude toward the dead. At an inn, Chada explained that he became a Controller for money and feared being laid off if he failed to earn enough.

  • Lizzie paid Chada to clean up evidence of her murder of Martha and asked him to report any future affair involving her husband.
  • Chada and the others searched the crime scene, and Chada added a thirty-ninth stab wound to match the historical record.
  • Chada tried to use a filthy bottle to recreate the recorded violation of Martha’s corpse, but Du Yu objected and the two nearly fought.
  • Shiranui Asuka pointed out that Doctor John had recently visited Martha, so the police would already find evidence of violation, and Chada lowered his Rapier.
  • Du Yu, Shiranui Asuka, Chada, and Ramla followed Chada to an inn, where Chada said he worked for money and could be laid off if he earned too little.

Ch. 122The Second Victim

Du Yu and his companions accompanied Chada through the events leading to Jack the Ripper’s second murder, as Chada sold Lizzie information and later altered the crime scene to make the killing brutal enough to draw police attention. The chapter ended with Chada completing the gruesome reconstruction while Du Yu struggled to watch.

  • Chada explained that the Time Company profited from changing mortals’ pasts and that he had to do its dirty work to keep his job.
  • Chada opened a portal and took Du Yu and Shiranui Asuka eight days into the future, where they sold Lizzie information about Annie Chapman and her husband.
  • Lizzie paid Chada and went to 29 Hanbury Street, where she killed Annie Chapman.
  • Chada and the others arrived afterward, and Chada erased Lizzie’s footprints before inspecting the corpse.
  • Chada cut open Annie Chapman’s abdomen, wound her intestines around her neck, and removed her reproductive organs to make the murder attract attention.

Ch. 123Let him die

Du Yu and Asuka went to a London post office to buy supplies, where Du Yu unknowingly encouraged Arthur Conan Doyle to kill off Sherlock Holmes. After Dong Qianqiu identified the writer, Du Yu tried to take back his advice, but the letter had already been mailed.

  • Chada asked Du Yu and Asuka to buy red ink, writing paper, and envelopes while he and Ramla disposed of the corpse.
  • At the post office, a suspicious clerk questioned Asuka and Du Yu about their appearance before directing them to the envelopes.
  • Du Yu struggled to get a middle-aged man to move off the envelopes, and the man asked whether he should let someone who consumed his time die.
  • Du Yu told the man to follow his heart, prompting him to write a letter announcing that he would kill off Sherlock Holmes.
  • Dong Qianqiu recognized the man as Arthur Conan Doyle, and Asuka read the letter aloud after Doyle had already mailed it.
  • Du Yu urged Doyle to reconsider and told him authors should take responsibility for their work and readers.

Ch. 124Let's Be Friends

Du Yu and Shiranui Asuka returned from meeting Conan Doyle, having changed history’s process but not its outcome. Back at the inn, Du Yu learned that Chada had eaten evidence from Annie Chapman’s body to prevent it from being discovered, and that he was trying to raise money to hire Controllers to resurrect his daughter; Du Yu offered to help and be his friend, but Chada suspected he wanted something in return.

  • Dong Qianqiu told Du Yu that their changes had not altered the outcome, and Du Yu left Conan Doyle with Shiranui Asuka.
  • Shiranui Asuka corrected Du Yu about how he addressed her, but he kept calling her Asuka and teasing her with nicknames.
  • At the inn, Du Yu found Chada eating flesh and an internal organ taken from Annie Chapman, which Chada said he wanted to keep future investigators from discovering.
  • Chada explained that he needed money to hire Controllers because he wanted to bring his daughter back to life.
  • Du Yu offered to help Chada and said he wanted to be friends, but Chada grew wary and refused to believe the offer came without a hidden motive.

Ch. 125Liar

Du Yu agreed to travel back in time and save Chada’s daughter, Casey, and entered a Portal to 1993. After he left, Chada addressed the Heavenly Court representatives to discuss business.

  • Chada misunderstood Du Yu’s offer to help Casey, but Du Yu assured him he genuinely intended to save her.
  • The Queen Mother of the West said the Chinese Immortal Realm’s laws did not govern Britain, and Asuka declined to help because changing the past violated her laws.
  • Chada explained that six-year-old Casey had died in a traffic accident in 1993 and gave Du Yu her photograph.
  • Chada opened a Portal and wrote a letter so Du Yu could arrange a return Portal, then Du Yu entered it to reach Casey’s time.
  • Dong Qianqiu showed Du Yu in 1993 beside the Jack the Ripper case in 1888, while Chada admitted he had nearly lost himself and called for business with the Heavenly Court representatives.

Ch. 126Chada's Past

Du Yu discovered that Chada had lured him to 1993 with a letter concealing a request to save Casey, while the Queen Mother of the West negotiated with Chada through the screen. After Qu Xi translated the letter, Du Yu set out to find Casey and found her beside a telephone booth where a blonde woman was making a call.

  • Chada demanded valuables worth ten million pounds from the Queen Mother of the West in exchange for returning Du Yu to China.
  • Du Yu revealed that he had suspected Chada’s letter was deceptive but had gone anyway because he could be recalled with the time-travel device.
  • Qu Xi recognized the letter as Middle English and translated Chada’s message, which said Casey would be in danger and instructed the recipient to use Du Yu without killing him.
  • Du Yu decided to save Casey, and Dong Qianqiu explained the Heavenly Court’s rule against viewing one’s own legend and its past punishment for a True Immortal.
  • Du Yu searched the street, found Casey crouching by an injured butterfly near a telephone booth, and spotted a blonde woman inside making a phone call.

Ch. 127Shrouded in conspiracy

Du Yu and Yingning intervened when Chada’s employers used a staged drunk-driving incident to keep him from leaving the Time Company, saving Chada’s daughter and the driver. After Du Yu tried to help the girl in the ensuing crowd, Chada mistook him for a threat and attacked him.

  • Du Yu recognized Chada at a phone booth and asked Yingning to prepare to save Chada’s daughter if the predicted accident occurred.
  • Du Yu overheard a company executive pressure Chada to stay, while a pale young man knocked out a bystander and forced brandy down his throat.
  • The pale men made the unconscious bystander drive toward Chada’s daughter, but Yingning lifted the car over the girl and landed it safely.
  • The company executive confronted Du Yu about the flying car, but Du Yu feigned ignorance and slipped into the crowd.
  • Du Yu and Chada simultaneously caught Chada’s daughter when she was jostled, and Chada summoned a rapier and attacked Du Yu before Yingning deflected the blade.

Ch. 128Knowing Your Mistakes and Mending Your Ways

Du Yu convinced Chada that his daughter Casey had been targeted by his employer and that his future self had sent him to prevent her death. Chada sent Du Yu back through a Portal, but after history changed, Chada still felt the pain of losing Casey and could not remember a life with her.

  • Chada recognized the daily code words in Du Yu's letter and took him to a deserted bar to talk.
  • Du Yu explained that Casey had nearly been killed by a car and that Chada's future self had needed money to change the past and save her.
  • Du Yu accused Chada's boss of arranging Casey's death to keep Chada working for the company, prompting both Chadas to recall that Chada's husband had been murdered by someone he trusted.
  • Chada opened a Portal and sent Du Yu back, declining to send Casey through or write him another letter.
  • Back at the dining table, Chada thanked Du Yu for saving Casey but said he still had no memories of raising her and remained in pain.
  • Du Yu tried to quote a Chinese saying about correcting one's mistakes, and Dong Qianqiu corrected him.

Ch. 129The Real Jack

Du Yu and Chada abandoned their plan to have Lizzie commit the murders and instead exposed the Jack the Ripper story to the press, inspiring multiple real killers to imitate Jack. After Mary Jane Kelly's murder on November 8, 1888, the killings stopped and Jack the Ripper disappeared.

  • Du Yu performed for the immortals and encouraged Chada to seek happiness with Casey instead of continuing to kill.
  • Chada sent anonymous accounts and a taunting letter to the media, prompting widespread reports about Jack the Ripper and awakening copycat killers.
  • The copycat Jacks murdered Elizabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowes, while police concealed an antisemitic message found near the crime scenes.
  • Du Yu and the others followed Chada through time as killings continued, including the arrival of a taunting letter signed "From hell" and containing half a woman's kidney.
  • On November 8, Mary Jane Kelly was brutally murdered, shocking the other Jacks and ending the killings.

Ch. 130Grandfather Paradox

Du Yu and his companions prepared to return to China, but Cavendish arrived and revealed that Chada’s daughter Casey had been killed again to preserve a paradox that would bring Du Yu and Chada together. Cavendish and his team attacked them, leaving the Queen Mother of the West furious but unable to reach them.

  • Du Yu returned to the inn with Shiranui Asuka, Chada, and Ramla after the Jack the Ripper legend ended, and Chada joked that Du Yu owed him four pounds.
  • As Dong Qianqiu prepared to recall the group to China, Cavendish arrived with Howard, Campbell, and two masked men, and Chada said he would give up his assassination bounty and live with Casey.
  • Cavendish explained that Du Yu and Chada’s meeting created a grandfather paradox, then opened a box containing Casey’s severed head.
  • Du Yu attacked Cavendish with the Green Pen, but Cavendish caught and cracked it, while Chada charged him and had his hand broken.
  • A young driver kicked Du Yu through a table, and the Queen Mother of the West demanded to be sent to Britain, but Dong Qianqiu said they could not reach the scene.

Ch. 131Outmatched

Du Yu and his allies faced Cavendish as he brutalized Chada and ordered them killed. With the group trapped and Yingning badly hurt, a black-clad figure entered the screen to confront Cavendish.

  • Cavendish crushed Chada’s limbs and revealed that he had killed Regina, while Du Yu tried to bargain for Chada’s life.
  • Cavendish threw Chada to Du Yu, and Shiranui Asuka treated him as the Supreme Elder Lord worked to heal his injuries back at the Legend Management Bureau.
  • Cavendish ordered his people to kill everyone, prompting Yingning to reveal herself and fight alongside Du Yu.
  • Chada opened a small Portal that could carry only two people, while Cavendish broke through Yingning’s defenses and left her badly hurt.
  • A black-clad figure walked into the screen and appeared before Cavendish.

Ch. 132Someone Died

Zhan Qisheng and the Voice Transmitters fought Cavendish long enough for Du Yu and the others to escape, but Cavendish killed Chada before they were transported away. Chada died after seeing Casey, and Du Yu realized that the arrival of White and Black Impermanence meant her death might not be final.

  • Zhan Qisheng attacked Cavendish with wind and time-based techniques while Du Yu and the Voice Transmitters helped hold him off.
  • As the Soul-Summoning Device activated, Zhan Qisheng departed, and Cavendish recovered and stabbed Chada through the chest before Du Yu, Shiranui Asuka, Chada, and Ramla were transported away.
  • The Supreme Elder Lord failed to save Chada, and she died after Du Yu showed her Casey in the exquisite box.
  • Du Yu grieved over Chada's death until White Impermanence and Black Impermanence arrived, prompting him to realize she might still be saved.

Ch. 133Guarding the West

Du Yu helped Chada become part of the Eight Directions Ghost Record so he could see his daughter Casey again. After Du Yu opened a Portal to London, Zhan Qisheng returned with a wound contaminated by a Western Demon’s blood, while Chada reunited with Casey through Du Yu’s body.

  • Black Impermanence failed to draw Chada’s soul out, but White Impermanence summoned him and learned he was a good person.
  • Chada agreed to become an evil ghost within Du Yu so he could see Casey, then signed his name in the West section of the Eight Directions Ghost Record.
  • Du Yu opened a Portal to London and left to reunite Chada with Casey, telling the immortals to prepare the next legend about War Goddess Athena.
  • Zhan Qisheng returned with a blackened wound, and the Supreme Elder Lord identified it as contamination from a Western Demon’s blood and ordered physicians summoned.
  • Black Impermanence left after White Impermanence warned that he might attack Zhan Qisheng over their personal grudge.
  • Du Yu reached young Chada’s home in London, handed control of his body to Chada, and let him embrace Casey.

Ch. 134Devil's blood

Du Yu returned to the Legend Management Bureau and learned that Zhan Qisheng was critically ill after Cavendish infected him with devil’s blood. With the Queen Mother of the West agreeing to discreetly send King Arthur evidence of Cavendish’s attack, Du Yu went to Mount Unreturning to borrow Chi Ghost, whose blood arts might save Zhan Qisheng.

  • Du Yu returned to the Legend Management Bureau, where Dong Qianqiu explained that Cavendish’s devil’s blood had contaminated Zhan Qisheng and caused a severe reaction.
  • Du Yu let Chada speak through him to thank Shiranui Asuka, then advised the Queen Mother of the West to send King Arthur Dong Qianqiu’s recording anonymously rather than confront him directly.
  • The Supreme Elder Lord said blood arts could remove the devil’s blood from Zhan Qisheng’s dantian, but none of the gathered immortals practiced them.
  • Du Yu recalled that Chi Ghost used blood energy in combat and left the Bureau alone to find him at Mount Unreturning.
  • Du Yu asked Lady Houtu to lend him Chi Ghost, and she agreed while warning that Chi Ghost might refuse to help.

Ch. 135Your true intentions

Chi Ghost removed the demon blood from Zhan Qisheng and helped save him. Du Yu then confronted Shiranui Asuka and Ramla about their reasons for attending the exchange, learning that Asuka had sneaked away for fun and that Ramla wanted him to complete her Athena legend so she could marry him.

  • Du Yu persuaded Chi Ghost to help save Zhan Qisheng after Yingning admitted she no longer wanted him dead because he had been injured saving her.
  • Chi Ghost extracted the demon blood from Zhan Qisheng, and the Supreme Elder Lord confirmed that his condition had cleared.
  • After the legend upheaval ended, Du Yu questioned Shiranui Asuka and Ramla about their real intentions at the exchange gathering.
  • Shiranui Asuka confessed that she had disobeyed her elders and stolen a Legend-Sealing Pearl and invitation to visit China and attend the Peach Banquet.
  • Ramla revealed that she had come looking for a lion and offered to become Du Yu's wife if he completed her War Goddess Athena legend alone.

Ch. 136A worldview shattered

Du Yu entered the legend of Athena with Ramla and Shiranui Asuka, still reeling from Ramla’s marriage plans and the tangled family relationships of Greek gods. At the Temple of Athena, he met the priestess Gorgon and learned that the legend required them to help Athena kill her.

  • Ramla explained that she wanted Du Yu to prove his strength and planned to marry him, while Du Yu was stunned by her plans to overthrow Zeus and by the gods’ incestuous family histories.
  • Ramla revealed that Zeus wanted to marry his daughter Athena, who was also the goddess of wisdom and virginity, and joined Du Yu and Shiranui Asuka on the Teleportation Device.
  • The three arrived in Greece in 406 BC at the Temple of Athena, where they met Gorgon, a priestess who welcomed Ramla as the God of Legends.
  • Ramla told Du Yu that their goals were to prevent Athena from marrying Zeus and to help Athena kill Gorgon.

Ch. 137The banquet of the gods

Du Yu, Shiranui Asuka, and Ramla traveled to Mount Olympus for a banquet while discussing the conflicting accounts of Gorgon’s tragedy. The chapter ended with Ramla inviting a drunken god to take her in front of Du Yu, who grabbed Asuka and decided they were leaving.

  • Ramla told Du Yu that their mission was to help Athena kill Gorgon, while Dong Qianqiu relayed Qu Xi’s account that Athena had caused Gorgon’s tragic fate.
  • Hermes arrived and flew Ramla, Du Yu, and Shiranui Asuka to Mount Olympus, where he left them to enter the banquet.
  • Ramla transformed leaves into white cloth and told Du Yu and Shiranui Asuka to wear it; they entered the hall dressed in the scant Greek style.
  • Du Yu and Shiranui Asuka found the gods indulging in a drunken, frenzied banquet, and Ramla asked Du Yu whether it seemed more like paradise than China’s Heavenly Court.
  • When a drunken god approached Ramla, she offered herself and said that intimacy in front of the man she loved might make him cherish her; Du Yu grabbed Shiranui Asuka and said they were leaving.

Ch. 138Zeus's male favorite

Du Yu agreed to stay at Ramla’s banquet long enough to complete the legend, then learned from Qu Xi about Zeus’s abduction of Ganymede and the Greek gods’ cruelty. The chapter ended when a drunken god grabbed Shiranui Asuka, and Du Yu drew his sword to make him let go.

  • Du Yu confronted Ramla about her banquet, but agreed to return to the hall and complete the legend after she pleaded with him.
  • Du Yu observed Zeus with his male cupbearer, Ganymede, and asked Qu Xi to explain what he had seen.
  • Qu Xi told Du Yu that Zeus had abducted Ganymede, made him his favorite, and displaced Hebe as cupbearer.
  • Du Yu learned that Ganymede’s father, Tros, had accepted Zeus’s explanation and divine horses after Zeus said his son had joined the celestial roster.
  • A drunken god grabbed Shiranui Asuka’s leg and asked her to become his woman, so Du Yu drew a sword and ordered him to let go.

Ch. 139A Cry for Help

Du Yu protected Shiranui Asuka from Phobos at the divine banquet, then learned that Ganymede wanted to escape Zeus’s rule. Zeus held a contest between Poseidon and Athena to name the newly built city, and Athena won, naming it Athens.

  • Du Yu threatened Phobos with his sword when Phobos tried to trade his sister for the unconscious goddess, and Ramla drove Phobos away.
  • Du Yu checked on Shiranui Asuka, who refused to leave the banquet despite being shaken by the encounter.
  • Ganymede thanked Du Yu for treating him kindly and secretly asked him to take him somewhere beyond Zeus’s rule.
  • Zeus announced that the gods would name a newly built city by offering mortals what they needed most.
  • Poseidon gave the city a warhorse, while Athena gave it an olive tree that the citizens welcomed with gratitude.
  • Zeus declared Athena the winner and named the city Athens.

Ch. 140My Way of Doing Things

After Zeus declared he would marry Athena to prevent Poseidon from killing her, Du Yu blamed Ramla for disrupting the legend and went to free Ganymede. Hera transformed Ganymede into a wine flask, and Du Yu prepared to fight her, redirecting her Magic Orb through a Portal toward her back.

  • Poseidon threatened Athena, so Zeus declared he would marry her and hold a wedding banquet.
  • Du Yu confronted Ramla, then went to the back courtyard to help Ganymede escape through a Portal.
  • Ramla and Hera appeared and stopped Ganymede from leaving; Hera struck him with a Magic Orb and transformed him into a wine flask.
  • Du Yu summoned Yingning and challenged Hera, then redirected her Magic Orb through a Portal so it flew toward her from behind.
