Background and History

Imperial Childhood and Adoption

Leng Qingsong was born into Great Tang’s imperial family. At three, he was already mentally mature enough to understand the deaths of those protecting him. His father, the former crown prince, attempted a coup and was killed before reaching the palace gates; Leng Qingsong subsequently became an orphan in Maple Leaf City 525.

Ouyang adopted him after seeing his extraordinary system statistics. The two survived through begging, deception, theft, and stolen sweet potatoes. Despite his imperial birth, Leng Qingsong remembered their time begging together as the happiest period of his life. He resolved either to become someone like Ouyang or to become the sharpest sword in his hand 5 525.

Ouyang later brought him to Hu Yun and the Azure Cloud Sect. When the sect master offered to take him as a disciple, Leng Qingsong refused because he wanted to remain with his elder brother 5.

Early Sword Cultivation

At Little Mountain Peak, Leng Qingsong pursued a Sword Dao centered on identifying himself with the sword. Unlike Bai Feiyu, who made all things into swords, he trusted the sword in his hand and his own strength. Their early sparring consisted of hundreds of exchanges without sword intent, since its release could have destroyed the peak 7 27.

During the confrontation with Buddhism’s Holy Son, Hui Zhi, Leng Qingsong fought a ninth-level Nascent Soul cultivator while still at Core Formation. He shattered Hui Zhi’s Buddha palms and shredded his sleeve with a concealed strike carrying Dao Resonance. Hui Zhi conceded the exchange 42 43.

Return to Great Tang

Traveling with Ouyang and Hu Tutu, Leng Qingsong drove off bandits and encountered Wang Ming, who reported that Xuan’er and others from Maple Leaf City had been arrested. The group headed for the Imperial City 56.

There, Leng Qingsong confronted memories of his family’s destruction and saw how greatly Xuan’er had changed. His anger helped drive him through Chang Xiaoyue’s seal and into enlightenment, severing his ties to the Tang State’s fortune. He then entered the Nascent Soul Realm, although the breaking of his newly formed Life-Bound Sword nearly destabilized the breakthrough 65 66 67.

Immortal Secret Realm

Chen Changsheng remembered a previous timeline in which Leng Qingsong joined the Sword Sect, became the Immortal Secret Realm’s sole survivor, inherited Li Taibai’s legacy, and ascended as the world’s first Immortal. That legendary Leng Qingsong vanished immediately afterward. In the current timeline, the realm opened almost ten years early, and Leng Qingsong belonged to Little Mountain Peak instead 103.

Inside the realm, a Sword Spirit seized his body and slaughtered cultivators. His Nascent Soul sheltered within a Green Lotus while Ouyang subdued the possessed body and supplied True Qi to restore the lotus. Leng Qingsong regained control, restored his sword’s physical form, and subsequently received Li Taibai’s inheritance 140 141 145.

His fellow disciples’ intervention changed the outcome remembered by Chen Changsheng: thousands of sword cultivators outside the palace survived. The realm itself was ultimately absorbed into Leng Qingsong’s brow lotus 142 148.

Ouyang’s Unconsciousness

After emerging from seclusion with a thirteenth-grade Green Lotus, Leng Qingsong learned that Ouyang’s Divine Soul was missing. His despair nearly produced a Heart Demon before Bai Feiyu restored his clarity. He then confronted the sect’s elders, retrieved Chen Changsheng, and split Questioning Sword Peak with one strike 294 295.

He remained beside Ouyang for a year, repeatedly visiting Dongxu Zi to challenge him about the Dao. Eventually, he left for Thousand Sand Valley to be closer to his elder brother 297.

Chang Xiaoyue and the Mortal World

Leng Qingsong’s marriage to Chang Xiaoyue began as a bargain for her survival. Although she later regarded her romance as largely one-sided, he repeatedly spared her: he allowed her to escape Ouyang’s group and later deliberately cut only a lock of her hair when she asked him to kill her 405 409.

After dying and being revived by Ouyang, Leng Qingsong confronted Ling Feng, who had fused with the Mortal World’s Heavenly Dao. He beheaded him, attacked his divine soul with the green lotuses in his eyes, and unleashed sword qi against the Heavenly Dao’s golden pupil. Ling Feng nevertheless retained an escaping remnant 421 422.

Before the group left the Mortal World, a little white snake delivered Chang Xiaoyue’s Paper Star to Leng Qingsong. Its message was “I love you!” 438.

Rewritten Destiny and a New Dao

Hu Yun and other senior figures initially treated Leng Qingsong as Li Taibai’s reincarnation. His later system panel identified him more specifically as the reincarnation of the immaculate sword heart, while Bai Feiyu was separately established as the reincarnated Sword Immortal 170 427 526 535.

His original destiny would have made him a key to reopening the Heavenly Gate and returning the Immortals to the world. Hu Yun and Ouyang broke that path by binding his Supreme Heartlessness Dao to worldly affection. Ling Feng took the role of integrating with the Mortal World’s Dao instead 425 526.

When Ouyang admitted what they had done, Leng Qingsong accepted it. A cultivation path ending in total solitude was incompatible with his reason for cultivating in the first place 534 535.

After obtaining Li Taibai’s complete insights, he advanced through Tribulation Transcendence but refused merely to repeat his predecessor’s path. Supported by Ouyang’s True Essence scattered throughout Heaven and Earth, he chose to open a path that let living beings determine their own fate. His Heaven-opening sword strike began his Immortal transformation 558 565 566 574.

Exile, Sagehood, and Lost Memories

Realizing that Ouyang might have sacrificed himself, Leng Qingsong hurried home. Dongxu Zi intercepted him, and four Tribulation Transcendence experts shattered the surrounding space. Leng Qingsong subsequently wandered Chaos, searching for a route back 579 580 616 680.

He rejected the temptation to become the new Dao Ancestor and eventually returned through a connection to Ouyang’s Heaven and Earth. Unable to find Ouyang in the River of Time, he encountered Bai Feiyu. Their shared grief turned into accusation and a full-force battle that stopped the river 681 683.

As a Supreme Sage, Leng Qingsong settled in the Grand Void Palace in Chaos. He presided over slaughter and avoided appearing casually in the world. His recollection of his own life had lost Ouyang’s central role, leaving him with an unexplained sense of emptiness 689.

He later joined Bai Feiyu and Chen Changsheng in arranging a great calamity, a westward transmission of Buddhist Dharma, and the creation of a new Sage. Their cooperation fractured when Buddhism’s emergence threatened their respective interests 703 714 715.

Search for His Reincarnated Brother

After recovering his memories, Leng Qingsong was devastated that he had forgotten Ouyang for a million years and even assumed his place as Little Mountain Peak’s eldest senior brother. He begged Chen Changsheng for the chance to see him again 727 749.

The search took the three Sages into an unfamiliar world where their strength was limited to Xiantian martial artist level. Leng Qingsong’s poor sense of direction led him onto an expressway, forcing his junior brothers to intervene when an officer stopped him 742 744.

He eventually found his reincarnated elder brother at the Orphanage. Initially intending to withdraw into eternal self-imprisonment, he was persuaded that their bond need not end in tragedy. He then thanked his junior brothers for never abandoning the search and brought them to wait quietly outside the Orphanage 749 753.

Recognizing the danger of Ouyang sacrificing himself for another generation of prodigies, Leng Qingsong asked Chen Changsheng and Bai Feiyu to help devise a solution rather than forcing one through strength alone 755.

• Usual clothing: Black robes or a fitted black outfit, commonly accompanied by a sword held against his chest or carried on his back 41 297 545.
• Face and bearing: Handsome, stern, and habitually cold-faced; eventually grows taller than Ouyang 442 527.

Personality

Leng Qingsong is socially anxious, taciturn, and blunt. He often replaces conversation with direct action, including drawing his sword when an obstacle cannot be resolved easily. His cold exterior conceals unusually strong attachment: among Little Mountain Peak’s disciples, he is described as the one who treasures personal bonds most 5 299 410.

His devotion to Ouyang borders on dependence. He originally cultivated to make his elder brother happy and wanted little beyond becoming his strongest weapon. Ouyang’s disappearance repeatedly exposes the gap between his overwhelming strength and his emotional resilience, provoking panic, despair, and Heart Demons 295 300 527.

He is fiercely protective of his fellow disciples regardless of fault. Yet he rejects power purchased through the destruction of his relationships, and he is disgusted by the discovery that his lotus can feed on slain sword cultivators’ intent. His eventual willingness to admit his limitations and ask his junior brothers for help marks a departure from his habitual reliance on the sword 140 410 535 755.
