Background / History
Previous Life: Li Taibai
Li Taibai grew up in Chao Ge’s ruling Li family and practiced swordsmanship relentlessly in the City Lord’s Mansion. Although the city sheltered him, he also remembered it as a cage 445.
His friend Ouyezi sacrificed himself in a sword furnace to restore Li Taibai’s broken lifebound sword. The sacrifice also opened the way to the supreme Sword Dao, leaving Bai Feiyu with a debt and grief that survived reincarnation 113 114.
Li Taibai slew the Immortals, but their severed True Spirits continued to survive. His own body perished, his Dao was extinguished, and he became the backbone of Heaven and Earth. His reincarnation was made possible through arrangements involving several Immortals 221 246 485 487.
Reincarnation and Little Mountain Peak
After awakening his former-life memories, Bai Feiyu joined the Azure Cloud Sect for its cultivation resources. By his first appearance, he had belonged to the sect for five years. He concealed his reincarnation while attempting to forge the perfect sword heart he had never attained in his previous life 2.
Life with Ouyang repeatedly disturbed his formerly detached temperament, but Bai Feiyu privately enjoyed experiencing youth and companionship. His opposing Sword Dao also made Leng Qingsong both a frequent sparring partner and a source of arguments 2 7 27.
When heavenly punishment threatened Xiao Feng, Bai Feiyu joined Leng Qingsong and Chen Changsheng in attacking the Eye of Heavenly Punishment 39.
Immortal Secret Realm and Ouyezi’s Inheritance
Bai Feiyu initially tried to prevent Leng Qingsong from entering the Immortal Secret Realm, recognizing the same fatal sword path he had followed before. Learning that Hu Yun had arranged the journey made him hesitate to interfere 76.
Inside the inheritance trials, he recovered a wooden hairpin associated with Ouyezi and was overwhelmed by memories of the sword furnace. Ouyezi’s voice later reached him through the dachshund, advancing his Dao comprehension but renewing his fear that unseen forces were arranging his life 112 113 115.
He ultimately resolved that being treated as a pawn did not mean he had to remain one. During the realm’s collapse, he held off hundreds of sword cultivators outside the palace while his fellow disciples escaped with Leng Qingsong 116 146.
Founding the Divine Dao
Confronting the Artifact Ancestor exposed the limitations of Li Taibai’s former solution: killing Immortals neither erased their lingering True Spirits nor prevented new Immortals from arising. Bai Feiyu instead envisioned binding them within an order as gods 219 221.
Dongxu Zi helped clarify that the Heaven-Measuring Ruler had chosen him independently, despite originally being intended for Chen Changsheng. He also inscribed “Seal” on Hu Yun’s notebook, transforming its cover into “God-Sealing” 233.
When Ouyang’s soul was taken toward Nine Hells, Bai Feiyu nearly attacked Dongxu Zi with lethal force. After catching Ouyang’s unconscious body, he sealed Little Mountain Peak against outsiders. He later left the mountain to develop his new Dao once his fellow disciples had returned 246 297.
Collapse and Reconstruction
Bai Feiyu’s travels brought him to the East Sea, where he supervised Jiang Xiaotong and developed the idea of describing mountains and rivers through a textual map. His pursuit eventually ended in disaster: he severed his Dao Foundation and returned destitute, injured, and unable to cultivate 344 355 439 440.
Ouyang took him through the Mortal World. During enlightenment at Pingcheng, Bai Feiyu nearly lost himself among the voices of living beings, but Hu Yun’s name token recalled him to his own identity. Accepting that Li Taibai belonged to the past allowed him to rebuild his foundation and awaken divine authority 443 445 456 457 458.
Ouyang’s further guidance forced him to reconsider his rigid understanding of morality. Bai Feiyu concluded that gods should treat beings impartially and embody the principles they administered. His first appointments were two Yao spirits who became a Land God and Mountain God 475 476.
God-Sealing and Its Consequences
Bai Feiyu confronted the collective Dao Resonance of the so-called 108,000 Immortals, using his accumulated understanding of myriad Daos to advance his own path. The ensuing investiture brought him to ninth-level Mahayana. He appointed Bo Huang as Demon God Emperor and entrusted him with the Mountain-River Veins Map 479 484 485.
As the Divine Dao spread, Bai Feiyu became responsible for a million gods. He recognized that even diligent deities could eventually constrain mortal life and considered separating them from living beings. He nevertheless marched against the Great Spirit Mountain Temple after the Azure Emperor returned injured, then discovered that its followers were being reduced to instruments for generating faith 610 614.
Dongxu Zi later disabled the God-Sealing Treasure Books through his earlier inscription. Declaring that the Divine Dao must not reign alone, he sent Bai Feiyu back to Little Mountain Peak. Bai Feiyu could not bring himself to kill the man who had helped guide his cultivation 624.
Ouyang’s Sacrifice and Sagehood
Reviewing his timeline, Bai Feiyu discovered that Ouyang had borne his life-and-death tribulation so that he could attain his Dao. Realizing that the same friend had sacrificed himself for him across two lives shattered his confidence. Leng Qingsong pulled him back when he began surrendering himself to the River of Time 682 683.
Their grief became mutual accusation and then battle. Leng Qingsong defeated his Divine Laws Edicts and Heaven-Measuring Ruler, forcing Bai Feiyu to acknowledge that his second senior brother had surpassed both his incarnations in the Sword Dao 686.
After attaining sagehood, Bai Feiyu resided above the Thirty-Three Heavens while the Divine Dao continued expanding without his direct participation. He noticed arrogance spreading among the gods and suffered an unexplained loneliness, having forgotten the person for whom the highest divine seat had been reserved 689 702.
Once his memories returned, he offered to surrender his Sage fruition merely to see Ouyang again. He later joined the other two Sages in guarding the world containing Ouyang’s reincarnation 726 728 741.
At Maple City’s City God temple, Bai Feiyu initially struggled to recognize his idealized senior brother in a frail, suspicious boy. Hearing the boy pray only for the children in his care made him realize that Ouyang’s kindness had remained unchanged; his own expectations had distorted his judgment 759 760.
Appearance
- Exceptional beauty: His initial panel gives him Charm 10+1, and Hu Tutu is immediately struck by his appearance 2.
- White clothing: Regularly appears in white robes, often standing in a tree with his hands behind his back 102 167 194.
- Divine manifestation: During God-Sealing, golden patterns appear on his white robes and his pupils turn gold, accompanied by sacred pressure 480.
- Traveling equipment: Commonly carries the God-Sealing Treasure Book, wears the Heaven-Measuring Ruler at his waist, and has Diao Mao perched on his shoulder 297.
Personality
Bai Feiyu initially presents himself as calm, aloof, and unusually old-fashioned. His courteous manner earns Chunyang Zi’s approval, though Dongxu Zi recognizes a distance behind his habitual smile. Ouyang is particularly capable of breaking that composure through teasing 2 102 232.
He is proud of his experience and talent, but his central ambition becomes finding a Dao that benefits living beings rather than merely reproducing Li Taibai’s achievements. His compassion initially coexists with an inflexible, black-and-white understanding of principles; encounters with ordinary people force him to acknowledge motives that do not fit his expectations 221 474 475 476.
His loyalty to his fellow disciples is fierce. Threats to Ouyang provoke killing intent, while the discovery that his accomplishments depended on Ouyang’s sacrifice drives him into profound self-reproach. His later meeting with Ouyang’s reincarnation exposes another flaw: judging a person against an idealized memory rather than recognizing their unchanged kindness 246 682 760.
Abilities & Skills
All Things Are My Sword
His exclusive skill expresses a Dao in which the surrounding world answers as swords 2 7.
- Houses, vegetation, paving stones, and even air appear as keen-edged swords under its influence 7.
- Can wrest control of other cultivators’ swords and turn them against their wielders 100.
- Later interprets “all things” as encompassing myriad Daos rather than a return to his former Green Lotus Sword Dao 221 479.
Swordsmanship and Former-Life Knowledge
- At Core Formation, can kill a Nascent Soul cultivator with a single stroke 7.
- Retains access to a wisp of Green Lotus Sword Intent, despite deliberately avoiding its cultivation in this life 217.
- Possesses extensive knowledge of ancient cultivation methods, Immortal True Spirits, and supreme Dao manifestations 76 212 619.
- His former-life mastery does not make him unbeatable: Leng Qingsong surpasses his combat ability and defeats him 686.
Purple Qi Cultivation and Dao Comprehension
- Absorbs Heaven and Earth Purple Qi at dawn rather than ordinary Heaven and Earth Essence 194.
- Uses this foundation to wield Laws at Nascent Soul, although such comprehension normally begins much later 207.
- Forges a Xiantian Dao-Comprehending Sword Physique and perfect sword heart through years of preparation 217.
- Studies numerous Daos while deliberately avoiding the Green Lotus Sword Dao 479.

- Makes rain fall simply by speaking “Rain” 458.
- Issues Divine Laws Edicts encompassing cause and effect and the power of living beings 686.
- Can bestow divine appointments and direct the gods through edicts 476 485 620.

- Attempts to use Time Stop to escape Leng Qingsong, but cannot prevent his defeat 686.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Three-Foot Greenedge Sword — Early weapon used for combat and Sword Flight 2 14.
- Heaven-Measuring Ruler — Azure Cloud Sect Dao Treasure that chooses Bai Feiyu after Chen Changsheng cannot hold it. Used to trigger Dao Resonance, absorb Immortal Spiritual Qi, and support his divine arts 205 206 219 355.
- God-Sealing Treasure Book — Develops from Hu Yun’s notebook, with Dongxu Zi adding “Seal.” Ouyang jokingly inscribes “God-Sealing Bang Bang Bang” in it. Bai Feiyu reserves its highest seat for Ouyang rather than himself 233 344 487.
- Wooden hairpin — Plain ebony hairpin Li Taibai made for Ouyezi. Recovered during the inheritance trials, it carries memories of their friendship and remains deeply important to Bai Feiyu 112 113 761.
- Name token — Hu Yun’s wooden waist token engraved “Bai Feiyu.” Prevents him from losing himself during enlightenment and helps him distinguish his present identity from Li Taibai 457.
- Mountain-River Veins Map — Entrusted to Bo Huang upon his appointment as Demon God Emperor 485.
Relationships
- Ouyang / Ouyezi — Eldest senior brother and the friend who sacrificed himself for Li Taibai. Bai Feiyu initially distinguishes Ouyang from his remembered friend, later recognizes their connection, and hopes to repay him with the highest divine seat 116 487 682.
- Hu Yun — Master. Bai Feiyu deeply respects him and feels that Hu Yun’s gaze can penetrate his secrets. His name token later saves Bai Feiyu during enlightenment 76 457.
- Leng Qingsong — Second senior brother, Sword Dao rival, and reincarnation of Li Taibai’s Immaculate Sword Heart—not simply another incarnation of Li Taibai himself. Their conflicting paths culminate in Bai Feiyu’s defeat 27 487 686.
- Chen Changsheng — Third senior brother. Protects Bai Feiyu’s comprehension from interruption and accompanies him through the secret realm; later disputes involve Ouyang and their conflicting responsibilities as Sages 115 125 704 726.
- Hu Tutu / Daji — Junior sister. Their early familiarity becomes strained after she becomes ruler of the Demon Race and he becomes Divine Sovereign. Her insistence on the forgotten Ouyang challenges his refusal to confront his missing memories 2 702.
- Ou Yezi — Dear friend from Li Taibai’s life, distinct from Ouyezi. Bai Feiyu credits him with illuminating his path; he later appears as the Azure Emperor 487 610.

- Bo Huang — Demon Ancestor slain by Li Taibai and later involved in the arrangements enabling Bai Feiyu’s return. Appointed Demon God Emperor 485.
- Song Mu — Sword Sect cultivator who challenges Bai Feiyu to surpass him when escorting the group home 158.
