Background / History

Xia Yu and his older sister, Xia Yao, have depended on each other since childhood. Their mother inexplicably left when he was five and Xia Yao was seven. Xia Yao raised him, and their circumstances improved only after his talent earned him the position of young clan chief 1.

For ten years, Xia Yu fought on behalf of the Xia family. He led its younger generation against Huai City’s other three great families without a defeat, gaining a reputation for fighting without regard for his own safety. His prominence also fueled Xia Longfei’s resentment 1 4.

Three days before the opening events, Xia Yu joined a Xia Lineage expedition into an underground cavern. When a formation attacked the group, he stepped in front of the others. Afterward, the clan moved to strip him of his position, withheld his mother’s Sacred Martial Token, and assaulted Xia Yao when she tried to obtain it for his treatment. His attempt to defend her ended with the First Elder shattering his dantian; Xia Hongji subsequently ordered the siblings’ disposal in secret 1 2.

The destruction of his dantian revealed the Heaven-Incinerating Furnace within him. The Ancestral Dragon’s inheritance then gave him a new cultivation path based on awakening small worlds throughout his body. Xia Yu resolved to keep the furnace’s capabilities his most closely guarded secret 2 3.

Personality

Xia Yu’s strongest attachment is to Xia Yao. He considers her his “dragon’s reverse scale”: mistreatment of himself can be tolerated, but harming her cannot. His lethal response to Xia Fan’s assault contrasts with the gentleness he shows while carrying Xia Yao home and treating her wound. He is also willing to beg for help when her life is at stake 1 3 24 35.

He is fiercely proud and resistant to submission. He would rather fight to his last drop of blood than retreat, and severe injuries often make him smile and fight harder. Nevertheless, his aggression is not indiscriminate: he recognizes Bao Yijian as a worthy sword cultivator and spares him after winning their duel 7 18 29 30.

His behavior becomes more playful when hope for Xia Yao’s recovery eases his usual strain. He jokes with companions, teases An Qing, and becomes visibly embarrassed after accidentally entering Su Xiang’er’s room. He also distinguishes sincere respect from empty ceremony, refusing to feed a deceased stranger’s body to the furnace and earning the blue-robed teacher’s approval through his conduct 9 23 36 38 48.

Abilities & Skills

Ancestral Dragon Boundless Art

  • Small-world cultivation: The art describes 1.08 billion small worlds within the body. Each awakened world functions like a small dantian and grants one dragon’s strength—100,000 jin 2 3.
  • Physical reinforcement: Ancestral Dragon Origin Force strengthens his cells as worlds activate. Even with only one world awakened, intermediate demonic beasts can barely penetrate his skin 6 8.
  • Recovery: Origin Force gathers at wounds to repair them, including deep sword cuts. Severe injuries can still exceed the speed of this healing 5 44.
  • Ultimate potential: Awakening every small world would allow transformation into an Ancestral Dragon; Xia Yu has not achieved this 3.
  • Resource demand: Activation requires enormous quantities of spiritual energy. Half a month of ambient absorption leaves his eighth small world less than ten percent full 49.

Ancestral Dragon Fist — Boundless

  • Power layering: Concentrates his strength into a punch, then stacks further waves of whole-body power onto it 3.
  • Activation requirement: Although he uses attacks named Boundless earlier, the second small world marks his true entry into the technique’s stacking mechanism 3 5 6 8.
  • Documented applications: Uses Threefold Boundless against Martial Saint Academy’s outer elder and Sixfold Boundless against Xu Weilin 24 42.
  • Improvement through combat: Faster stacking increases its power. Repeated clashes with Xu Weilin also strengthen his body through recoil 43.

Divine Dragon Concealment and Divine Dragon Movement

  • Divine Dragon Concealment: Makes his figure and aura vanish, allowing him to evade attacks and lose pursuing demonic beasts 11 30.
  • Duration limit: Concealment is temporary; activating his third small world extends it by another breath 12.
  • Divine Dragon Movement: Provides explosive movement and afterimages. With three small worlds, a single step carries him more than ten yards 11 25.
  • Combined attacks: Movement paired with Boundless emphasizes strength and speed, while concealment paired with Boundless makes his attacks more elusive 8.

Heaven-Incinerating Furnace Refinement

  • Energy conversion: Refines spiritual-energy-bearing objects into pure energy for cultivation and recovery, including weapons, beast cores, corpses, spirit stones, and storage-bag contents 5 8 11 37 44.
  • Weapon neutralization: Refines the Cloud-Riding Sword after Xia Yonggang pierces his abdomen, enabling Xia Yu’s lethal counterattack 5.
  • Energy-sharing agreement: Negotiates a split of the energy from objects he supplies; receives half the energy refined from the Cloud-Riding Sword 5.
  • Recorded higher stages: The furnace’s method describes an external furnace formed from spiritual energy, followed by using heaven and earth themselves as a furnace. These are stated possibilities, not demonstrated achievements 3.

Heaven-Splitting Three Forms

Form Function
Heaven-Breaking Concentrates power at the spear tip to pierce through a single point; its stated pinnacle is breaking open space at that point 10.
Heaven-Splitting Combines physical strength and Origin Force in an explosive sweeping attack; its stated pinnacle is tearing open space 10.
Heaven-Shattering Releases countless Heaven-Breaking or Heaven-Splitting strikes to surround one target or a group with spear rays; its stated pinnacle is shattering a stretch of the void 10.
  • Uses Heaven-Breaking to kill a peak King Realm python by ambush while still in Origin Command 11.
  • Uses Heaven-Splitting against sword-wielding opponents and Heaven-Breaking for rapid thrusts at their throats 13 17 27.
  • The spatial effects described at each form’s pinnacle are not shown as mastered in the supplied passages 10.

Battle Intent

  • Initially manifests as a towering golden figure during his battle with the black tiger 7.
  • Advances to Battle Intent Burning, represented by a hundred-zhang figure in golden armor wielding an enormous axe 31.
  • Amplifies his attacks, including the spear thrust used against a sixth-level Emperor Realm elder 45.
  • Does not make him immune to superior pressure: Qi Huang initially overwhelms his low-level battle intent 30.

Gravity Domain and Force Comprehension

  • Learns from the Ancestral Dragon to perceive force fluctuations and coordinate his small worlds to control them, rendering Xu Weilin’s gravity ineffective 44.
  • The teaching identifies gravity, vibration, attraction, and repulsion as components of the broader Domain of Force; mastery of all four is not established 44.
  • Uses gravity to briefly immobilize an Emperor Realm elder, delaying the elder’s punch long enough for a fatal spear thrust 45.

Mystic Heaven Art and Mystic Heaven Finger

  • Receives both techniques from the blue-robed man within a Sacred Bone Slip’s consciousness space 48.
  • Compresses his Origin Force over two months of continuous cultivation 50.
  • Demonstrates long-range destructive power by shattering a ten-thousand-pound boulder atop Martial Saint Mountain from Wendao Mountain 50.
  • Kills a King Realm challenger and Zhang Yicheng with individual finger strikes 50.
  • The completed compression leaves three of his seven original small worlds empty 50.

Alchemy and Scholarly Knowledge

  • Obtains extensive pill formulas, ingredient theory, and refining knowledge from the Nameless Old Man’s jade slip 10 32.
  • Successfully completes seven of ten batches of King-Tier Spirit Pills during his early refining attempts 15.
  • Identifies sulfur as a flaw in Lin Xulun’s Separation Fire Glazed Glass Pill preparation and later refines supreme-grade king-tier pills 32 34.
  • Knows the lost Tremor Art, which Lin Xulun hopes to learn from him 34.
  • Is recognized as a top-level King-Tier Alchemist, but has not yet attained Emperor-Rank alchemy in the supplied context 35.
  • Memorizes the Dao-Seeking Academy library’s tens of thousands of books, then spends half a month digesting their contents 47 49.
  • Medical limitation: His inherited alchemy knowledge contains no illness-diagnosis instruction. Neither it nor the academy library provides an immediately usable cure for Xia Yao 32 49.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Heaven-Incinerating Furnace — Internal treasure occupying the place of his dantian; central to his energy absorption, refinement, and recovery 2 3 44.
  • Sin Dragon Spear — Sentient, blood-bound weapon acquired in the hidden cavern. Xia Yu forces its obedience by threatening to feed it to the furnace. Its exact rank remains unconfirmed; an enemy later suspects it is a Saint Weapon 9 45.
  • Heaven and Earth Ring — Vast storage ring brought to him by the Sin Dragon Spear from its former master; opened through blood binding 9.
  • Nameless Old Man’s jade slip — Contains Heaven-Splitting Three Forms and extensive alchemical knowledge 10 32.
  • Personal pill furnace — Used instead of Duanmu Wenshan’s King-Tier furnace; Wenshan suspects it may be Saint-Tier 14.
  • An Qing’s jade pendant — Given to help him seek Ming Yue at the Martial Saint Academy 19.
  • Pill Academy supreme elder token — Symbol of his appointment within the Dao-Seeking Academy 36.
  • Zhang Yicheng’s Heaven and Earth Bag and defensive armor — Taken after killing him at the academy entrance 50.

  • Their mother — Left inexplicably during their childhood. Her Sacred Martial Token becomes a focus of the siblings’ dispute with the Xia Lineage 1 15 17.
  • Ancestral Dragon — Cultivation benefactor and demanding instructor. Gives Xia Yu his core inheritance and later teaches him to overcome Xu Weilin’s gravity 2 44.
  • An Qing — Seventh Princess, rescued sword cultivator, duel opponent, and protector. Directs him toward Ming Yue and later adopts an affectionate older-sister manner toward him 11 17 19 36.
  • Su Deyu — Master and head of the Dao-Seeking Academy. Accepts him as his final direct disciple, supplies cultivation resources, and protects him during conflicts and seclusion 31 35 36 50.
  • Shen Yuxuan — Senior brother who recruits him into the academy and repeatedly intervenes against Xu Weilin 27 28 29.
  • Su Xiang’er — Eldest senior sister. Their first meeting is an embarrassing accident; later he saves her in battle and retaliates against the challenger who injures her 38 45 50.
  • Lin Xulun — Initially his martial uncle, later his alchemy student. Examines Xia Yao, seeks instruction in Tremor Art, and helps secure Xia Yu’s supreme elder appointment 32 34 35.
  • Duanmu Wenshan — Alchemist and supporter who provides ingredients, accompanies the siblings to Capital City, and pays their travel expenses. Incorrectly suspects Xia Yu has a powerful lineage behind him 14 20 22.
  • Shangguan Ming Yue — Prospective source of help for Xia Yao, recommended by An Qing. Xia Yu repeatedly seeks her, but her whereabouts remain unknown 19 24 35.
  • Xia Longfei and Xia Hongji — Former clan rivals responsible for dispossession and persecution. Xia Yu kills both at the Huai City Grand Competition 1 17.
  • Xu Weilin — Martial Saint Academy’s head inner disciple and persistent enemy. Dies after Xia Yu overcomes his Gravity Domain 28 42 44.
  • Bao Yijian — Opposing sword cultivator whom Xia Yu respects and spares after defeating him 29 30.
