Background / History

The original Jia Lie Ao was a mediocre cultivator whose family competed with the Xiao Clan for marketplace income. He suffered fatal injuries from the Dou Qi shock waves of Xiao Yan’s disguised identity, “Lin Dong.” Gu Ni refused Jia Lie Bi’s request to treat him, and the family’s physicians could only sustain him through a month-long vegetative state 16 18 22 29.

An Otherworlder subsequently revived in his corpse, inheriting his identity and an Eavesdropping on Thoughts System. Familiar with the original Battle Through the Heavens story, he believed he had arrived too late to seize Xiao Yan’s ring and obtain Yao Chen’s assistance. He instead planned to reach Xiao Yi Xian first and benefit from her future cultivation of the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture 18.

Personality

Jia Lie Ao is opportunistic and cautious about opponents with powerful protectors. Even after reaching Dou Ling, he avoids directly challenging Xiao Yan because of Yao Lao and Ling Ying. His preferred strategy is to acquire future opportunities, cultivate influential connections, and relocate his family rather than fight the Xiao Clan outright 18 19 27.

He treats romance and matchmaking as routes to security and advancement. He plans to win Xiao Yi Xian’s affection, use his experience card to earn Yun Yun’s favor, and arrange a match between Xiao Mei and “Lin Dong” to secure the latter’s goodwill. After hearing Xiao Xun’er’s unwavering devotion to Xiao Yan, he abandons pursuing her and turns his ambitions toward Xiao Yi Xian, Yun Yun, and Medusa 19 24 25.

His affection for his inherited father is genuine, but his loyalty does not extend equally to the clan. Jia Lie Bi’s embrace moves him shortly after awakening; his father’s eventual suicide drives him into grief and murderous rage. He condemns the clansmen who refuse to sacrifice themselves for him and burns them to ashes 18 38 39.

Auction and Attempted Alliance

After receiving his system rewards, Jia Lie Ao persuades his father to consider leaving Wutan City. At the Mittel Auction House, he encounters Xiao Yan disguised as “Lin Dong,” fails to read his thoughts, and begins probing the supposed Dao Sect’s origins 19 21 22.

He then attempts to gain “Lin Dong’s” favor by mediating his conflict with the Xiao Clan and proposing Xiao Mei as a match. Meanwhile, Xiao Yan tells Mittel Tengshan that Jia Lie Ao houses a fugitive Dao Sect traitor—a fabricated explanation that turns his abrupt recovery and concealed cultivation into grounds for investigation 24 25 26 29.

Identity Probe and Marketplace Sale

Unable to read either Xiao Yan or “Lin Dong,” Jia Lie Ao suspects they are the same person. He offers the Jia Lie Family’s remaining marketplaces to the Xiao Clan and requests “Lin Dong” as a witness to test that possibility 33 34.

Xiao Yan defeats the test by appearing as “Lin Dong” while a Shadow Clone accompanies Xiao Xun’er as Xiao Yan. Jia Lie Ao abandons his suspicion, finalizes payment in three installments, and trades information about the Green Lotus Core Flame for a promised Dao Sect recommendation. He hopes “Lin Dong” will take the flame and obstruct Xiao Yan’s advancement 35 36.

Qingshan Town Battle and Death

Ten days later, the Jia Lie Family leaves Wutan City for Qingshan Town. Xiao Yan and Mittel Tengshan follow and attack under the Dao Sect’s name. Jia Lie Ao counters with the Vermilion Bird Divine Flame, prompting Xiao Yan to seize Jia Lie Bi as a hostage 36 37.

Jia Lie Ao refuses to surrender. After Jia Lie Bi kills himself, his strength rises to Peak Dou Emperor and his flames engulf the town, killing the remaining Jia Lie clansmen. He confronts Xiao Yan, still believing him to be “Lin Dong,” but falls to the fourth fold of the Ninefold Thunderfire Palm 38 39 40.

Xiao Yan plunders his system, divine body, and flame. A surviving soul fragment finally realizes that “Lin Dong” is Xiao Yan—another Otherworlder with a system—before Xiao Yan shatters it and absorbs the flame 40 41.
