Slumbering, enormous bodies lay motionless, their tentacles drooping, fleshy growths contracting, and breathing so faint it was almost imperceptible.
As though dead.
Or waiting.
Ever since news of the Eighth-Order Demon God Ao Lingsi's death arrived from Terra, the Seventh-Order Demon Venerable stationed here had halted the offensive.
Not because he did not want to fight.
He could not break through.
The Kona Civilization's atmosphere reached temperatures of over two thousand degrees and was hundreds of kilometers thick.
If the Demon Clan Army forced its way in, the heat generated by friction would reduce everyone below the Fifth Order to ash.
Even if they got inside, countless nuclear bombs and missiles awaited them. Entering meant going to their deaths.
The two Space-Jumping Beasts were still there, but without an Eighth-Order presence holding the field, a lone Seventh-Order Demon Venerable could not protect a newly opened wormhole passage.
