Ch. 1This Damn Company Deserved to Explode

Ye Buyu interviewed for a part-time job, provoked the Man-Made Calamity [Streetlamp], and died in the company explosion. In the [River of Forgetfulness], she remained conscious among the souls, and the ferry began shaking as she warned the ferryman.

  • Ye Buyu argued with a contemptuous interviewer, who eventually offered her a job, but she rejected the company and stormed out.
  • Ye Buyu recognized the orange streetlamp as the Man-Made Calamity [Streetlamp] and ran as its followers gathered.
  • [Streetlamp] exploded the company and blasted Ye Buyu into the [River of Forgetfulness], where she survived the blast but found herself still conscious.
  • The ferryman contacted the Social Security Bureau after discovering that Ye Buyu was awake, since she was not an Awakened above the fifth tier.
  • Ye Buyu told the ferryman that the ferry was shaking, and he realized the [River of Forgetfulness] itself might be shaking.

Ch. 2Hello, Am I Dead?

Ye Buyu and the ferryman faced the Whale of Wailing in the River of Forgetfulness, whose cries drove them and the souls around them into uncontrollable grief. The river destabilized, the sun went dark, and the world's destruction progress rose as Ye Buyu called the Great Xia Social Security Bureau for help.

  • The ferryman identified the enormous shadow as the Whale of Wailing and ordered Ye Buyu to row while he raised a barrier.
  • Ye Buyu rowed so frantically that their boat capsized, leaving her and the ferryman in the River of Forgetfulness.
  • The whale's presence filled Ye Buyu and the ferryman with sudden despair, and the ferryman began sobbing uncontrollably.
  • The river's wails destabilized the Aurora Bridge, dimmed the sun, and raised the world's destruction progress to 73 percent.
  • Ye Buyu shook the ferryman and used his radio to call the Great Xia Social Security Bureau for rescue.

Ch. 3White hair, red eyes

Ye Buyu survived the [Whale of Wailing] incident but woke with white hair and red eyes, and learned that she had awakened the [Life Breath] ability. She had no explanation for how she resisted the whale’s influence as agents of the Social Security Bureau began questioning her.

  • Ye Buyu smashed the radio as directed, and a crowd of ferrymen attacked the [Whale of Wailing] to calm the River of Forgetfulness.
  • Ye Buyu saw that the whale was wreckage from a dead world, was overwhelmed by visions of its destruction, and lost consciousness.
  • Ye Buyu woke in a hospital and discovered her hair had turned white and her eyes red.
  • A young woman reported that Ye Buyu had awakened [Life Breath] after returning from the River of Forgetfulness and questioned how she had stayed sane.
  • Ye Buyu met Si Weijian, an agent investigating the incident, and told him she did not know how she had resisted the whale’s influence.

Ch. 4Four Symbols Academy

After surviving the Whale of Wailing, Ye Buyu accepted the Social Security Bureau’s protection and was admitted as a special student to Four Symbols Academy. She arrived at the academy and met an exhausted upperclasswoman working in the security office.

  • Ye Buyu told Si Weijian and Li that the Whale of Wailing had shown her a dead world and a thriving world destroyed in an instant.
  • Si Weijian offered Ye Buyu protection through the Social Security Bureau, and she agreed to go with them.
  • Li explained that Ye Buyu would bypass the Gaokao and enter Four Symbols Academy as a special-admission student.
  • Si Weijian asked Lan Huaiyu to closely observe and protect Ye Buyu, suspecting that her soul had been affected by the River of Forgetfulness or the Whale of Wailing.
  • Li took Ye Buyu by special train to Four Symbols Academy, where she admired the campus before approaching its security office.
  • A sleepy young woman at the security office scolded Ye Buyu for disturbing her sleep.

Ch. 5The Border Abyss

Ye Buyu entered Four Symbols Academy with a recommendation letter and tried to find Principal Lan Huaiyu without realizing the school was in the dangerous Blue-Label Zone. After she casually overcame several anomalies, students mistook her for a genius special admit and went to investigate the Headless Corpse.

  • Ye Buyu showed the senior her Social Security Bureau recommendation letter and asked for directions to Principal Lan Huaiyu.
  • The senior gave Ye Buyu a campus map, but Ye Buyu walked into the academy despite tripping over a vine and not knowing it was in the Blue-Label Zone.
  • Ye Buyu navigated the academy’s strange hazards and tossed a basketball through a hoop-like anomaly that had blocked her path.
  • Students watching Ye Buyu were astonished by how she handled the Headless Corpse and guessed she was a special admit.
  • Three students wagered on what level of material Ye Buyu might be, then headed off to study the Headless Corpse.

Ch. 6Things That Looked Different Through Her Eyes

Ye Buyu met Principal Lan Huaiyu, learned about the Awakened students’ Gaokao and her upcoming Supplementary Assessment, and received a wrist phone and a roommate. She left with Mu Bingge, still wondering why the strange things she saw might look different to others.

  • Lan Huaiyu questioned Ye Buyu about her arrival and realized she saw the true nature of anomalies as harmless-looking objects.
  • Lan Huaiyu explained the Awakened Gaokao, warned Ye Buyu that examinees might challenge special-admission students, and arranged a teacher to train her healing ability, Life Breath.
  • Lan Huaiyu gave Ye Buyu a wrist phone and explained how students earned and spent credits.
  • Mu Bingge arrived to take Ye Buyu around the academy, and Lan Huaiyu warned Ye Buyu to stay careful even when things looked harmless.
  • Ye Buyu recognized Mu Bingge from a video and asked her what the strange things around the academy looked like.

Ch. 7The Insatiably Curious Upperclassmen

Ye Buyu and Mu Bingge discovered that they perceived the strange scene at the basketball court differently, then went to investigate the Headless Corpse. Mu Bingge tried to reproduce Ye Buyu’s earlier success while Ye Buyu struggled to explain what she had done.

  • Mu Bingge described a Headless Corpse and other monsters where Ye Buyu saw ordinary basketball players, revealing their conflicting perceptions.
  • Mu Bingge flung Ye Buyu from the corridor and raced toward the court, but Ye Buyu had to be protected by a shield of water and admitted she was Zero Rank.
  • Ye Buyu told Mu Bingge that throwing a basketball into the Headless Corpse’s neck had made it leave, so Mu Bingge went to try the same method.
  • The three guys revealed that they had been studying the Headless Corpse after Ye Buyu’s earlier success and asked her how she had done it.
  • Mu Bingge bound the Headless Corpse with water chains and took its head, while Ye Buyu struggled to explain where she thought the target was.

Ch. 8The remains of the [Whale of Wailing]

Ye Buyu discovered that she could make a Headless Corpse retreat by treating it like a basketball hoop, drawing the Academy’s curious upperclassmen after her. As Mu Bingge began teaching her to use [Life Breath], Ye Buyu encountered a remnant of a level-ten [Calamity] that revealed her healing ability worked through an exchange and carried side effects.

  • Ye Buyu guided Mu Bingge to throw the Headless Corpse’s head through an imagined basketball hoop, causing the Calamity to flee.
  • Mu Bingge pulled Ye Buyu away from the curious upperclassmen and explained that the Academy studied Calamities for research.
  • Ye Buyu told Mu Bingge she had awakened [Life Breath] only two days earlier, and Mu Bingge offered to teach her.
  • As Ye Buyu focused on her ability, she saw whale-shaped lights and encountered a being claiming to be part of the remains of a level-ten [Calamity].
  • The whale explained that Ye Buyu’s healing ability forcibly established an exchange, requiring something in return for whatever it gave.

Ch. 9Bad Luck for Whoever She Healed

Ye Buyu learned that her healing ability made those she healed pay a price, then tried treating an upperclassman and healed him so thoroughly that he became stuck kneeling. She was left apologizing while Little Whale laughed at the side effect.

  • Little Whale explained that Ye Buyu's ability made others pay a price and gave up its level-ten Calamity status to guide and protect her.
  • Little Whale taught Ye Buyu the healing skill Thousand Tides Tracing the Moon, and Mu Bingge offered to let her practice before leaving campus for a few days.
  • Ye Buyu went to Zhang Ying's lesson, where she learned that healing Calamity power required careful, even application.
  • At Little Whale's prompting, Ye Buyu slapped an upperclassman's wound and healed his injuries and Calamity affliction.
  • The healed upperclassman found himself unable to rise from his knees, and Little Whale laughed that this was the price of Ye Buyu's healing.

Ch. 10On Their Knees

Ye Buyu’s healing ability forced those she healed to pay an irreversible price, and her teacher and classmates tested it on Captain Hao Liang and several Calamities. The chapter left Ye Buyu being pushed into more experiments after the Shadow Wall surrendered a piece of material to her.

  • Little Whale explained that Ye Buyu could free Captain Hao Liang from her compulsory cost only if he willingly gave her something, and the class failed to undo the effect with purification or a level-seven artifact.
  • Captain Hao Liang gave Ye Buyu a level-three calamity remnant and stood up, but when she returned it, he immediately fell to his knees again and gave her the remnant permanently.
  • Zhang Ying had the class give Ye Buyu recovery potions and take her around the school to test her ability on Calamities.
  • Ye Buyu used her ability on the Forest Monster, which severed one of its arms as its price and fled, leaving Ye Buyu with the arm.
  • Ye Buyu healed the battered Shadow Wall, which spat out a piece of gel-like material and crawled away.

Ch. 11A Skill Made Up on the Spot: Gun Oath

Ye Buyu learned that her healing ability weakened Calamities by trying to restore their original forms, then reached the first tier and acquired a gun to use with a new skill called Gun Oath. She left the Equipment Room worried about the upcoming Gaokao in a Level-Four Red-Label Zone and was urged to practice her new skill.

  • Zhang Ying tested Ye Buyu's healing on Shadow Wall, and Little Whale explained that Ye Buyu's ability removed Calamity power as it tried to restore Calamities to their original forms.
  • After days of Zhang Ying's training, Ye Buyu became a first-tier Awakened but still healed by slapping her targets.
  • Little Whale invented Gun Oath, a skill that compressed Ye Buyu's ability into bullets, and directed her to buy a gun.
  • Ye Buyu exchanged forty credits for the level-three gun Flower Edict in the academy's Equipment Room.
  • Ye Buyu overheard that the Gaokao would take place in a Level-Four Red-Label Zone and learned that this year's candidates had reached the second tier.
  • Little Whale advised Ye Buyu to study and practice Gun Oath before the Gaokao.

Ch. 12The Ever-Unchanging Gaokao

Ye Buyu and Mu Bingge entered the Gaokao assessment in the Level-Four Red-Label Zone, but the Space Elevator scattered them across the area. Ye Buyu landed alone in a dangerous forest and discovered a robot watching her.

  • Ye Buyu told Mu Bingge that her mutated healing ability forced recipients to pay a price, but Mu Bingge assured her she would not be a burden.
  • Mu Bingge explained that the Space Elevator would drop them at random locations and promised to find Ye Buyu after they arrived.
  • Ye Buyu and Mu Bingge verified their identities, boarded the elevator with the other examinees, and were launched toward the Third Zone.
  • The elevator released the examinees into the sky, and their backpacks deployed protective shields before they landed in the forest.
  • Ye Buyu saw that Mu Bingge was far away, decided to shelter nearby, and realized she had landed in a Calamity pit with a robot staring at her.

Ch. 13Hopeless, Completely Hopeless

Ye Buyu escaped a clash between a Thunder Monster and a Wind Scythe, then met Su Wuwei while exploring the dangerous testing area. She mistook a sleeping magical-beast-type Calamity for a mountain, leaving Su Wuwei wary of her.

  • Ye Buyu fled from a level-four Thunder Monster but hid when she realized it was fighting a Wind Scythe over something deeper in the forest.
  • Lan Huaiyu and the other teachers watched Ye Buyu’s encounter and flagged the area after suspecting that something had changed there.
  • Ye Buyu escaped the storm but was chased by a mutated rabbit, which Su Wuwei burned to ashes with golden flames.
  • Su Wuwei introduced himself to Ye Buyu and asked whether she had found any clues in the area.
  • Ye Buyu pointed out a strange mountain, then realized Su Wuwei meant the sleeping magical-beast-type Calamity beside them.

Ch. 14...Isn't That Daylight Robbery?

Ye Buyu convinced Su Wuwei she was human by healing him, though her ability left him unable to move until he paid her materials. When two level-four Calamities pursued them, Ye Buyu and Su Wuwei agreed to fight, and her bullets weakened the monsters as Su Wuwei charged.

  • Su Wuwei suspected Ye Buyu was a Calamity after she identified forest Calamities by their true forms.
  • Su Wuwei accused Ye Buyu of being a Calamity, but her healing bullet restored his strength and left him immobilized until he gave her a material.
  • Ye Buyu warned Su Wuwei that a Calamity was approaching, and he paid her so they could flee.
  • Su Wuwei spotted the Thunder Monster and Wind Scythe, judged that he could not defeat both, and ran with Ye Buyu.
  • Ye Buyu fired four bullets at the monsters as Su Wuwei charged, and the bullets weakened them after they sliced off parts of themselves.

Ch. 15Put It in Writing!

Ye Buyu and Su Wuwei teamed up after killing two Calamities, and Su proposed using her as bait to find Mu Bingge. When Ye Buyu refused to enter the dangerous forest with him, Su agreed to put his promise not to lead her into danger in writing.

  • Su Wuwei killed the Thunder Monster and Wind Scythe with Ye Buyu's help, and Ye Buyu collected the materials left by the Calamities.
  • Su Wuwei apologized for suspecting Ye Buyu was a Calamity, and Ye Buyu explained that she was a recent special-admission student at Four Symbols Academy.
  • Su Wuwei proposed teaming up so he could find Mu Bingge and challenge her, while Ye Buyu accused him of wanting to use her as bait.
  • Ye Buyu warned Su Wuwei about the dangerous forest and mountain, then refused to follow him into the forest.
  • Su Wuwei agreed to put in writing that he would not take Ye Buyu into danger, asking her to come down from the tree.

Ch. 16The long-dispersed Calamity, [Tempest Fiend]

Ye Buyu discovered a Thunder Pool and Wind Core surrounded by dangerous calamities, then watched a black-robed man try to unleash the power of the long-dispersed [Tempest Fiend]. As calamities closed in around her, Little Whale warned that Ye Buyu could no longer escape.

  • Su Wuwei recruited examinees in the public chat to investigate a discovery, but Ye Buyu left him and headed toward the forest's edge.
  • Ye Buyu reconsidered leaving and turned back toward the forest's interior, where she found a purple Thunder Pool and a Wind Core.
  • Little Whale warned Ye Buyu about the dangers, while Thunder Monsters and Wind Scythes converged on the lake and lightning tentacles devoured them.
  • A black-robed man appeared beside the Thunder Pool and reached toward an enormous eyeball, declaring his intent to unleash [Tempest Fiend]'s power.
  • Ye Buyu asked Little Whale what the man was doing, and Little Whale told her there was no hope of escape.

Ch. 17Uh-oh, things were getting strange

Ye Buyu discovered that a black-robed member of the Void Order was using the remains of [Tempest Fiend] to unleash a disaster in the assessment zone. As the storm engulfed the forest, she shot the emerging creature and asked it to throw her out, leaving the black-robed man furious as she was hurled away.

  • Ye Buyu spotted the black-robed figure trying to activate [Tempest Fiend]'s remaining power and warned the public chat that he appeared to belong to the Void Order.
  • Mu Bingge told Ye Buyu to stay hidden while the black-robed man fed liquid metal into the thunder pool and urged the disaster to devour everything nearby.
  • The storm uprooted trees and swept Ye Buyu into the sky as the wind core plunged into the thunder pool and began consuming energy across the assessment zone.
  • Little Whale told Ye Buyu to shoot the disaster and ask it for a small request instead of collecting its remains.
  • Ye Buyu fired the Flower Edict and shouted for the creature to throw her out, and it hurled her away from the storm as the black-robed man shouted in disbelief.

Ch. 18No, You Came at Just the Right Time

Ye Buyu warned the examinees about a hyper-evolved Wind-Thunder Cantor and was caught by Mu Bingge before she hit the ground. As the examinees retreated, Mu Bingge revealed the teachers had not arrived, while the chapter showed the Observation Group scrambling to respond to a [Void Order] member’s interference.

  • Yan You suspected that a bullet had caused the Wind-Thunder Cantor to throw Ye Buyu out of the storm instead of attacking her.
  • Ye Buyu warned the examinees that the calamity had swallowed level-four monsters and fused with a thunder pool and wind core, prompting them to retreat.
  • Su Wuwei headed to rescue Ye Buyu, and Mu Bingge caught her before she struck the ground.
  • Mu Bingge said she had contacted the teachers, but none had arrived and something might have happened at the school.
  • In the Observation Room, Lan Huaiyu ordered an intervention after recognizing the thunder pool and wind core as remnants of the [Tempest Fiend], and Zhao Zhe rushed after the teachers who had already left.

Ch. 19Blocked by two Lord-class foes

Zhao Zhe and the university presidents fought the Void Cultists while Lan Huaiyu rushed toward the assessment zone, only to be intercepted by two Lord-class disaster creatures. The observation team declared level one combat readiness and warned the candidates to hide as Ye Buyu realized they were in grave danger.

  • Lei Yue and Zhao Zhe attacked the ten Void Cultists while the other university presidents hurried toward the assessment zone.
  • Lan Huaiyu killed the black-robed Void Cultist leader before he could detonate himself, then was blocked by the Rift Lord and Tsunami Lord.
  • Lan Huaiyu fought the two Lord-class disaster creatures as they tried to hold her back for half an hour.
  • The observation team activated an emergency broadcast, warned that the Void Order had infiltrated the assessment zone, and told candidates to group up and hide.
  • Ye Buyu heard the warning and cursed her bad luck.

Ch. 20The abandoned warship

Ye Buyu and the other examinees fled the Wind-Thunder Cantor while Mu Bingge stayed behind to hold it off. The Observation Group discovered that the apparent magical beast was an abandoned interstellar warship and directed the examinees toward a teleportation passage inside it.

  • Little Whale explained that the Wind-Thunder Cantor was a Blessed One, far beyond what first-tier Ye Buyu could fight.
  • Mu Bingge turned back to delay the Wind-Thunder Cantor, while Su Wuwei led Ye Buyu toward safety.
  • The Observation Group learned from Kou Ying that the supposed magical-beast disaster was an abandoned interstellar warship with a teleportation passage.
  • Su Wuwei realized Ye Buyu had recognized the buried warship as a mountain, and she cursed when the Observation Group confirmed its identity.
  • The examinees entered the warship through its enormous mouth, and Ye Buyu pushed aside the tentacles as if they were dead branches.
