A single shot blasted open the lock on apartment 301.

His gaze sharp as an eagle's, Su Jin stood motionless with his gun in hand.

Before long, the door was pushed open. A lifeless face appeared from behind it, only to drop out of sight a moment later.

Two shots in succession struck the hearts of the two zombies inside, sending them to the floor.

Though he had little experience with guns, he believed he could hit a heart accurately within five meters.

After waiting a while without any movement, Su Jin stepped forward and crouched to cut out their hearts.

But just as he crouched, a naked child around four feet tall darted out from the side.

In the dim light, Su Jin's agility was significantly enhanced.

Sensing an incoming attack, he immediately leaned back and rolled into the hallway.

Still crouching, he drove with his legs and slammed his shoulder into the door.

With a dull thud, the door crushed the child's head flat, and its eyeballs fell out.

At the same time, he slipped his gun barrel through the gap and put another shot into its back.

That made the whole family of three.

Su Jin opened the door and looked at the bodies on the floor, his expression turning bitter...

Wait, I overlooked something.

The flesh balls are behind the heart. If I keep shooting the heart, what if I blow one apart? Wouldn't that be a waste?

The zombies' weak point and the location of their treasure were one and the same, making the flesh balls extremely difficult to retrieve.

A knife would be a safer bet.

But what was done was done. There was no helping it now.

Su Jin crouched and cut open their hearts. Unfortunately, he still found no trace of flesh balls in any of the three zombies.

He shook his head helplessly and took off his gloves.

Better rescue the people first. I can come back for the supplies in here later.

Turning toward apartment 302, Su Jin knocked on the door. He knocked for half a minute and called out several times, but no one answered.

Once again, he shot the lock open.

He waited in the hallway for three minutes, but the door remained still. Su Jin pushed it open and entered slowly.

No one was in the living room. Someone must have lit a fire inside, because it was rather warm, and there was a foul smell... Only when he entered the master bedroom did Su Jin lower his gun with a look of exasperation.

Three young adults were inside. A woman lay on the bed, her clothes disheveled around her upper body as though they had been torn at, with a sock on only one foot.

Two men slumped in opposite corners, wearing nothing but underwear, both looking half-dead.

Judging by their chests, they seemed to have just vomited.

The two men glanced at him. One curled up where he sat, while the other continued staring blankly.

Su Jin turned his gaze back to the bed... Rolled-up strips of grime were everywhere...

Taking a deep breath, Su Jin wiped his face and asked in bewilderment, "Were the three of you scrubbing yourselves down in bed?"

"Waaah!!!!" Li Fang burst into tears.

"Just do it! What's the point of all this bullshit?" Cao Chengping squeezed his eyes shut, fear seeping into his voice.

The murderous psycho is inside... To think I'll die without ever becoming a real man.

But that wasn't my fault. The stink was too much. I just couldn't get it up.

Su Jin scratched between his eyebrows with his little finger, unsure what to say.

He could not quite make sense of what had happened, and none of their reactions were normal.

Even if they thought he had come to kill them, how did that explain this scene? Their reactions were far too detached.

Looking at the woman, Su Jin said coldly, "Hey, what happened? Explain. Keep crying and I'll shoot you!"

Li Fang said nothing and just kept wailing.

Annoyed, Su Jin's voice grew colder and harsher. "Answer me!"

"Tch." Cao Chengping turned his head away in disdain.

Su Jin turned to Cao Chengping, his brow knotting tightly.

This is getting even more confusing. I need to sort it out... What the hell happened?

While Su Jin was still frantically analyzing the situation, Li Fang finally stopped wailing. She turned and glared hatefully at Cao Chengping and Li Kai.

Pointing at the two men, she said venomously, "Them!! They've both gone crazy! They suddenly tried to rape me! Kill them! Kill them, and I'll do anything you want!"

"Did I manage it? Did I?" Cao Chengping craned his neck and cursed back. "Just looking at you makes me sick now! Ptooey!!"

After a string of curses, Cao Chengping turned to Su Jin and sneered, "Go ahead. A whore and a dog, and dogs eat shit. You two make the perfect pair!"

Su Jin stood frozen, his expression shifting again and again.

He finally understood. He had never expected something so simple to unfold in such a convoluted way.

He had come to rescue them and somehow ended up getting cursed out for no reason. He was utterly past getting angry.

With his hands on his hips, he sighed and walked toward Li Kai, who was closest.

He was just about to ask a question when he spotted two crumpled pieces of used tissue on the floor, and confusion filled his eyes again.

Su Jin nudged Li Kai with his foot. "You were involved too, right?"

Li Kai did not answer. He merely sat upright against the wall, looking resigned to death, as though baring his neck for the blade.

"Weren't you trying to rape her? Why did you stop?" Su Jin asked, leaning forward.

It was crass, pointless, and immoral, and the victim was right there.

But he really could not stop himself from asking... It had the irresistible allure of investigating a UFO.

Li Kai's gaze wavered as he looked at Li Fang. Cao Chengping's viciously mocking laughter rang in his ears, cutting him to the heart.

There was no way to hold my breath in that situation... But I really got carried away, and I didn't want to die with regrets.

Now, all he felt when he thought back on it was remorse. He could not hurt Li Fang again. After all, she was the woman he had once loved.

But he could not lose his pride as a man before dying, either...

Li Kai turned his head aside, his face expressionless. "I get motion sickness from 3D games. I can't handle first-person."

"Oh, fuck off!" Su Jin laughed in anger and kicked Li Kai over.

Then he turned and cursed at Cao Chengping too. "You two pieces of shit. You're in this state and still have time to spout nonsense. You really don't have any brains."

He then stepped back twice and said sternly, "I'm in no mood to listen to any more of your bullshit! You may have misunderstood me, but let me make this clear: I came here to rescue you, not hurt you!"

At those words, all three stared at Su Jin in shock.

Su Jin continued, "Originally, I was supposed to move you somewhere safe. But given your behavior, I've decided it's better to put that on hold. I'll bring you food and water in a bit. Stay put in this apartment and wait until we decide what to do with you!"

These three really were in terrible shape: no manners, no morals, no hygiene, and no spirit!

Bringing them back in a hurry would probably have a negative effect on the existing team.

He would have to discuss what to do with them with Elder Sun and Elder Wei. In any case, none of these three would have a place in the core team.

Turning toward the door, Su Jin said as he walked, "I'm warning you. If any of you takes even one step outside that door, I'll hack you apart!"

The instant he finished speaking, Cao Chengping practically teleported in front of him and dropped to his knees, pleading, "Bro, I was wrong! I'm really sorry I cursed at you earlier... From now on, if you tell me to go east, I'll never go west."

"Do as I say, and you won't suffer. Get back over there!"

Kicking Cao Chengping aside, Su Jin walked straight out.

He was about to head upstairs when he glanced back at the door with its broken lock, changed direction, and went straight into the apartment opposite.

Only after dragging out a sofa and firmly wedging it against the three people's door did he feel safe enough to head upstairs.

He seemed to have forgotten to ask whether any of them had come into contact with rainwater... There was no harm in being cautious.
