Ch. 161One in Ten Million

Ren Ye learned that his father had sought a Buddha Lamp and its base to locate a Star Gate in the Migration Land, but Lin Xiang knew little about the Scholar System or the meaning of Ren Daguo’s final letter. Ren Ye resolved to pursue the one-in-ten-million chance of understanding the letter, and Ren Daguo was buried on Kunlun Mountain.

Ch. 164Number Six Institute, a super empire

Ren Ye persuaded Huang Wei to join Number Six Institute as a resident Player by promising him a role in developing Qingliang Prefecture into a super empire. After arriving in Vermilion Bird City, Huang learned that the institute had only two authorized positions and that Ren Ye, not headquarters, would pay his salary and Star Source.

  • Ren Ye urged Yan Duoduo to finalize Huang Wei's transfer before the plane landed, then explained Number Six Institute and Qingliang Prefecture's potential to Huang aboard the plane.
  • Huang Wei agreed to become a resident Player and help Ren Ye manage Qingliang Prefecture, believing headquarters had established the institute to support them.
  • After landing, Ren Ye and Huang entered Vermilion Bird City and split up to collect supplies and complete Huang's personnel onboarding.
  • Huang registered as Number Six Institute's deputy director and learned the institute had only two authorized positions: his and Ren Ye's.
  • A Ministry of Personnel watcher told Huang that he would receive no salary or Star Source from the ministries because Ren Ye was responsible for paying him.

Ch. 165A shareholders' meeting for two

Ren Ye and Huang Wei established Number Six Institute in a dilapidated courtyard and discussed financing Qingliang Prefecture’s recovery. After learning that governing the prefecture and completing his Stage Mission would require about eight hundred thousand Star Source, Ren Ye asked whether New Year's Watchers from Qingfu District might invest in his empire project.

  • Ren Ye and Huang Wei moved into the Utility Courtyard, where they set up Number Six Institute despite its broken gate and poor condition.
  • Ren Ye showed Huang Wei his Star Source rewards and offered him either a salary or a two-percent stake that required a substantial investment; Huang Wei declined to commit to buying shares.
  • Ren Ye and Huang Wei entered Qingliang Prefecture, where Old Taoist Xu estimated that rebuilding and supporting its people and soldiers would cost more than three hundred and fifty thousand Star Source.
  • Old Taoist Xu told Ren Ye he could heal the injured Imperial Court soldiers within three months, and Ren Ye decided to keep them if they could recover.
  • Yin Susu revealed that Ren Ye's Stage Mission required reorganizing the military, building Dangshan Pass City, and reforming Qingliang Prefecture's administration and trade.
  • Yin Susu estimated the mission and prefecture's expenses at around eight hundred thousand Star Source, prompting Ren Ye to ask Huang Wei whether Qingfu District's New Year's Watchers might invest.

Ch. 166No loan

Ren Ye tried to secure Star Source to rebuild Qingliang Prefecture, but Lin Xiang refused to approve a loan and forbade him from borrowing from other New Year's Watchers. The chapter ended with Ren Ye considering tearing down Prince Huai's Residence to raise money.

  • Ren Ye saw Old Taoist Xu off as he left Qingliang Prefecture to travel the world, and Xu urged Ren Ye to govern benevolently and head south to reopen trade.
  • Yin Susu explained that Ren Ye could set fixed trading dates so the prefecture's residents could travel through the mist to trade.
  • Ren Ye returned to Vermilion Bird City and asked Zhao Baicheng to help with his loan application, but Zhao refused to intervene.
  • The Ministry of Revenue told Ren Ye that Lin Xiang's approval was required, and Lin Xiang rejected the loan and warned Ren Ye not to borrow from other New Year's Watchers.
  • Ren Ye returned to Qingliang Prefecture and suggested tearing down Prince Huai's Residence to sell it for Star Source, stunning Huang Wei.

Ch. 167A place every army would beat up

  • Ren Ye decided to demolish Tranquil Heart Hall and Conscientious Hall, and Susu warned him that damaging the residence could weaken the people’s faith and the land’s destiny.
  • Susu identified the Southern Border as Qingliang Prefecture’s only viable trade partner, and Ren Ye chose to send merchants there to sell the salvaged materials.
  • Huang Wei agreed to organize the trade mission and search the Southern Border for Zhu Zigui, who had gone missing on the way to his hometown.
  • Ren Ye appointed Huang Wei as Prefect and acting commander-in-chief, and Huang Wei accepted the resident Player mission and donned his official robe.
  • Ren Ye and Huang Wei held Huang Wei’s appointment ceremony, then gathered craftsmen and laborers to prepare to demolish the residence.
  • At dusk, Ren Ye summoned Susu to use her seal-bearing Gate Spirit ability to find another Star Gate for him to explore.

Ch. 168A new Star Gate

Ren Ye learned that the completed Buddha Lamp had summoned him to an extremely difficult First-Order Star Gate in Migration Land, a place tied to his late father's goal. He told Zhao Baicheng about the mission, and Zhao Baicheng reacted with sudden alarm.

  • Ren Ye supervised the overnight dismantling of Tranquil Heart Hall while Yin Susu and Lian'er competed to care for him.
  • Ren Ye asked Yin Susu to find a safe, manageable Star Gate, but she sensed the Buddha Lamp’s invitation to the S-rank Small Secret Realm 'The Vanished Lampwick' in Binhai City, Migration Land.
  • Yin Susu sensed that the realm had no death penalty but was extremely difficult and carried an aura that drove people mad; Ren Ye decided to enter it because it connected to his father's ambition.
  • Ren Ye visited Zhao Baicheng, acknowledged the lesson he and Lin Xiang had taught him about relying on himself, and showed him the completed Buddha Lamp.
  • Ren Ye told Zhao Baicheng that the lamp had summoned him to Binhai City in year 235, and Zhao Baicheng froze in alarm.

Ch. 169The Migration Land That Had Long Been Dead

  • After Ren Ye left, Lin Xiang learned that Ren Ye was headed to Binhai City and remarked that the name seemed familiar.
  • Ren Ye returned to the Academy, asked Susu to open the gate to Binhai City, and entered the Star Gate alone.
  • Ren Ye awoke in a high-speed train carriage with moonlit mountains passing outside.

Ch. 170Making contact, codename "Sandbag"

  • The attackers sent Ren Ye flying onto the tracks, where an approaching train ran him over and killed him.

Ch. 171Give Yourself a Round of Applause for Being So Clever!

Ren Ye reset on the train after the law enforcers caught him, then tried to avoid exposing his Buddhist Prayer Beads while finding his contact at Binhai Station. His contact left before he could reach them, and Scar-Neck and the other enforcers cornered him in the restroom, triggering another reset.

  • Ren Ye summoned the Human Emperor Sword and resisted the enforcers, who charged into the restroom and caused another reset.
  • Ren Ye remembered Xu Peng's explanation that some Gate Spirits were mindless remnant souls that could not be reasoned with.

Ch. 172It was actually... him?

Ren Ye repeatedly reset while trying to pass the station checkpoint and locate his organization’s contact, eventually identifying Lamp Wick through a cryptic clue on the train. He escaped with Lamp Wick by planting the Buddhist Prayer Beads on the bead man, then introduced himself as Sandbag outside the station and felt an unexpected familiarity with his new contact.

  • Ren Ye used his Hidden World in the Gutter technique to pass inspection, but Scar Neck noticed his clenched posture and killed him.
  • On his fourth reset, Ren Ye searched the dark train for the contact, accidentally exposed himself to the bead man, and drew the enforcers’ attention.
  • Ren Ye recognized Xu Zinan’s earlier warning and deduced that the young man was Lamp Wick from the clue of a heart beneath a lamp.
  • On his fifth reset, Ren Ye secretly contacted Lamp Wick, confirmed enforcers were aboard, and arranged to meet him outside the station.
  • Ren Ye planted the Buddhist Prayer Beads in the bead man’s bag, allowing him and Lamp Wick to slip through the checkpoint during the ensuing fight.
  • Outside the station, Ren Ye introduced himself as Sandbag, shook hands with Lamp Wick, and sensed an inexplicable familiarity with him.

Ch. 173The young monk Mumu

Ren Ye met Mumu, the wick seeker, outside Binhai City Station, but they were quickly surrounded by Scar-Neck’s men. Mumu revealed his Buddhist powers to subdue the attackers, and Ren Ye used the opening to fight toward the station outskirts.

  • Ren Ye met Mumu and followed him away from the station while suspecting that he was a monk and a remnant soul.
  • Mumu said he had an important errand unrelated to the wick, and Ren Ye agreed to leave by car.
  • Scar-Neck and a force of bald men in black surrounded them, identified Mumu as Wick, and ordered their men to take the pair alive.
  • Mumu transformed into a monk, chanted, and released golden light that made the attackers abandon their aggression.
  • Ren Ye summoned the Human Emperor Sword, proclaimed himself Great Qian Prince Huai, then cut through the subdued lackeys and led the escape toward the station outskirts.

Ch. 174Death before surrender?

Ren Ye repeatedly fought through the Star Gate with Mumu, but each attempt ended in capture or death, so he finally surrendered to learn what happened after capture. He and Mumu were taken away together, while Zhao Baicheng told Lin Xiang that one day had passed.

  • Ren Ye and Mumu battled their way through growing waves of pursuers, but Mumu died rather than risk revealing information about Lamp Wick, and Ren Ye soon died fighting.
  • In later resets, Ren Ye and Mumu tried different routes and hiding places, but they were repeatedly found and killed.
  • After earning the titles “Resilient Sandbag” and “Ten-Life Reincarnation Practitioner,” Ren Ye surrendered at the station checkpoint to investigate what lay beyond capture.
  • The pursuers captured Mumu with an array and took him away alongside Ren Ye.
  • Lin Xiang appeared in the Vermilion Bird City Star Gate library, and Zhao Baicheng said one day had passed.

Ch. 175The Two Contacts Who Vanished from the Train

Ren Ye used repeated resets to uncover the enforcer mole on the train and stop the contact from being captured. After Mumu died by poison in an earlier attempt, Ren Ye killed the disguised father on the twelfth reset and escaped with Mumu by jumping from the train.

  • Scar-Neck interrogated Mumu about Lamp Wick, but Mumu refused to reveal anything and killed himself with poison.
  • Scar-Neck ordered Ren Ye tortured, and Ren Ye died before resetting again.
  • On the eleventh reset, Ren Ye tested his suspicions by abandoning contact with Mumu, exposing himself at the station, and being killed by the enforcers.
  • On the twelfth reset, Ren Ye overheard the doting father coordinate with Scar-Neck to identify the contact carrying Buddhist prayer beads.
  • Ren Ye killed the doting father with the Human Emperor Sword, then sat beside Mumu and told him they needed to jump off the train.
  • Scar-Neck found the dead father and discovered the shattered restroom window after the train reached Binhai Station.

Ch. 176This little monk was quite a character

After escaping Binhai Station, Ren Ye learned that Mumu was an outsider risking his life to retrieve the Lamp Wick because strangers had once shown him kindness. Mumu took Ren Ye to buy gifts for his wife and children, then headed home to obtain a flame connected to the Lamp Wick, while Ren Ye asked whether he had heard of a Demon Monk in the Migration Land.

  • Ren Ye and Mumu fled the train tunnel and crossed the fields toward Binhai City to avoid being caught after Scar-Neck discovered Mole's corpse.
  • Mumu explained that he had agreed to retrieve the Lamp Wick for the ancient temple, despite having no ties to its people, because the temple had once taken him in and taught him kindness.
  • Mumu told Ren Ye that he had been raised at Lotus Temple, returned to secular life after it was destroyed, and married a former worshipper who was also a Player.
  • Mumu took Ren Ye to a handbag shop to buy a wedding-anniversary gift for his wife and requested two thousand Star Source, threatening not to deliver the Lamp Wick when Ren Ye initially refused.
  • Mumu bought gifts for his wife and children, then said they needed to visit his home to get a flame connected to the Lamp Wick.
  • As they walked toward Mumu's home, Ren Ye asked whether Mumu had heard of a Demon Monk in the Migration Land.

Ch. 177Fire

Ren Ye and Mumu returned to Mumu’s home and found Mumu’s wife and children dead after a violent struggle with bald men in black. Overcome with rage, Ren Ye used the Human Emperor Sword to kill Scar-Neck and nearly a hundred others, leaving the street strewn with bodies as footsteps approached.

  • Ren Ye sensed a repellent Star Source Fluctuation near Mumu’s home, and Mumu realized the fire had been knocked over and raced inside.
  • Ren Ye found more than twenty dead bald men in black, along with Mumu’s dead wife and two children, and inferred that the woman had fought back to protect them.
  • Ren Ye sensed a large group of Mystical Ability users approaching and left the apartment building to confront them.
  • Scar-Neck arrived with dozens of bald men in black, and Ren Ye attacked him with the Human Emperor Sword, killing him and the surrounding men with one crushing strike.
  • Ren Ye continued fighting until he had killed nearly a hundred people, then stood exhausted in the street as footsteps sounded again.

Ch. 178Breaking the deadlock!

Ren Ye repeatedly failed to escape the Star Gate’s two dead-end routes until he learned what the Organization Traitor had told the Enforcers and devised a plan to separate Mumu from his family. After Mumu agreed to trust him, the mission updated with objectives to rescue Mumu’s family and then Mumu.

  • Ren Ye died by suicide after the Enforcers overwhelmed him, then reset and killed the daughter-doting Mole before escaping the train with Mumu.
  • The Enforcers learned Lamp Wick’s home address from the Organization Traitor and captured Mumu’s wife and child, while Ren Ye and Mumu arrived too late and died fighting them.
  • After many failed attempts, Ren Ye realized he needed to learn exactly what the traitor had disclosed; he interrogated him during a battle and discovered the traitor knew Lamp Wick’s address but had not yet revealed it.
  • Ren Ye planned to leave Binhai Station separately from Mumu, rescue Mumu’s family, and then signal Mumu to mislead the Enforcers and draw them beyond the city.
  • Ren Ye reset again and explained the plan to Mumu, who asked him to bring his wife a gift and told him how to gain her trust and obtain a powerful fire.
  • The mission updated, directing Ren Ye to take Mumu’s family to Nanping Road and then return to Enforcer City Base to rescue Mumu.

Ch. 179Lamp Wick

Ren Ye helped Mumu’s wife and children reach safety, then discovered that Mumu had deliberately stayed behind and died to protect Lamp Wick. After recovering Lamp Wick by burning Mumu’s body, Ren Ye cleared the S-Rank Star Gate and chose to watch the newly unlocked observation mission.

  • Ren Ye bought Mumu’s anniversary gift and toys, then escorted Mumu’s wife and children to the organization’s rendezvous point and received a small bronze box containing fire.
  • At the Enforcer Base, Mumu led Scar-Neck and the guards outside, revealed his Ksitigarbha Inheritance, and died by releasing poison he had hidden in his body.
  • Ren Ye realized that Mumu was Lamp Wick and had never planned to escape, then watched Scar-Neck’s men send Mumu’s body to the Research Institute.
  • Ren Ye attacked the transport car, recovered Mumu’s body, and used the fire from the bronze box to burn it, releasing Lamp Wick into the space between his brows.
  • Ren Ye received confirmation that he had cleared the S-Rank Star Gate and accepted the observation mission, “Tales of the Ancient Temple.”

Ch. 180Reflections of the Past

Ren Ye watched the Star Gate reveal how Mumu sacrificed himself to obtain the Lamp Wick for more than ten thousand people, only for the Justice Organization to reject the contact’s account and turn on Mumu’s wife and children. Their deaths and the contact’s execution drove Mumu to return as a Demon Monk who slaughtered the ancient temple’s inhabitants; the observation ended with the Reincarnation Lotus Lamp entering Ren Ye’s brow and a voice calling him “Comrade Sandbag.”

  • Ren Ye entered the Maple Forest Ancient Temple Star Gate as a bodiless observer and learned that Mumu had accepted certain death to save the people whose souls were collapsing.
  • Mumu obtained the Lamp Wick after enduring trials, then arranged for his contact to evacuate his wife and children before meeting him in Binhai City.
  • As the contact disappeared, Brother Xu and the people in the ancient temple grew desperate, and rumors that Mumu had betrayed them turned them against his family.
  • Mumu’s wife and children were killed by the crowd, and when the wounded contact returned without the Lamp Wick, Brother Xu had him executed.
  • The contact’s burning body ignited the Lamp Wick, reviving Mumu, who destroyed the Buddha statue and slaughtered the people in the Star Gate before becoming a Demon Monk.
  • The Star Gate completed Ren Ye’s observation, the Reincarnation Lotus Lamp flew into his brow, and an unknown voice warned him that taking its treasure came at a price.
