Watching the Ogres get poisoned after devouring corpses, Wu Shaozhen did not know whether to laugh or cry. Many of them survived, though, because the poison soon disappeared. He worked it out: his poison lasted sixty seconds. Those Ogres must have died before the sixty seconds were up, but the poison had remained. If another Ogre devoured them during that time, the poison would continue taking effect in the new Ogre until its duration expired.
"This talent of mine is pretty overpowered," Wu Shaozhen marveled. "Now this could be fun."
After discovering this feature, Wu Shaozhen applied a full seven stacks of poison to every Ogre. That was enough to kill one in four or five seconds, and once it was devoured, the Ogre that ate it would soon die of poison too. With this beneficial cycle repeating, Wu Shaozhen killed monsters at an unbelievable speed.
While Wu Shaozhen farmed monsters without any pressure, things were far more brutal elsewhere. From above, demonic beasts could be seen swarming toward Jinling City from every direction, blanketing the landscape. The players outnumbered the Ogres many times over, packing the battlefield as fierce fighting raged.
Fortunately, aside from the unaffiliated players who each did their own thing, two or three major guilds on every side were methodically killing Ogres. At a time like this, the difference in efficiency between organized guild players and unorganized independent players became immediately apparent.
The guild players had Shieldguards at the front, Warriors charging in, Priests healing, and Mages and Archers pouring out damage, while Assassins lurked nearby in stealth to finish off weakened enemies. Ogres fell in swathes. Meanwhile, the independent players mostly fought alone or in parties of three to five. The gap in efficiency was enormous.
"Everyone, turn on peace mode! We're here to kill
