Once the trade was complete, Wu Shaozhen hurried back to the Novice Village. He found the village chief and handed over the Monster Core. "Chief, here's the Silver Wolf King's Monster Core you wanted."
The village chief looked at the Monster Core Wu Shaozhen handed him and said excitedly, "Wonderful! With this, we can repair the Teleportation Array leading to the main city. This Novice Village has been sealed off for far too many years. Adventurer, thank you for your contribution to the Novice Village. Here is your reward."
Ding! Quest complete. Title awarded: [Novice Village Hero]. Equip it?
"Equip," Wu Shaozhen said, then checked the title's attributes.
[Novice Village Hero]: Awarded for completing the quest to repair the Teleportation Array. Only one person in each Novice Village can receive it. Attributes: luck +10.
"It's actually luck!" Wu Shaozhen said in surprise.
Luck was an attribute he rarely saw. So far, only the necklace he was currently wearing had given him any, adding 3 points. Besides affecting monster drop rates, luck influenced many chance-based effects. It was definitely an exceptional attribute that was hard to come by.
Just then, the village chief began fiddling with a circular pattern at the village entrance. A few minutes later, the pattern suddenly lit up with white light, and a delighted smile spread across the chief's face.
At that moment, a system announcement sounded for every player in Beginner Village 8365...
System announcement: Player Dustseal has helped the village chief repair the Teleportation Array. Players in this Novice Village can now speak to the village chief upon reaching level 10 to teleport directly to a main city.
"Huh? We have to repair the Teleportation Array before we can teleport to a main city?"
"I guess so. Didn't the system just say that? I just wonder how much trouble it is."
"Who cares how much trouble it is? We've already had an expert fix it for us. Once we reach level 10, we can teleport straight to a main city and change classes. It really pays to have someone powerful looking out for you."
"Well said!"
As the players in Beginner Village 8365 marveled at the benefits of having someone powerful looking out for them, none gave it much thought. They assumed it couldn't be too difficult. Just then, Su Muxue remembered asking Dustseal why he hadn't gone to a main city despite reaching level 10. He seemed to have said he couldn't go. So the Teleportation Array had needed repairs.
After thinking it over, she couldn't resist her curiosity and sent him a message. "What do you have to do for the Teleportation Array repair quest?"
A little later, he sent back a short reply: "Kill the Silver Wolf King!"
It took Su Muxue a long while to recover. Just because you had to kill the Silver Wolf King to repair the Teleportation Array, you went off and slaughtered it?
Su Muxue didn't even know how to describe how she felt. But then she realized that the other Novice Villages would probably face the same situation. Without a freak like Dustseal around, the Silver Wolf King would surely hold them back for a long time. Dustseal had secured an enormous advantage for everyone in Village 8365.
At that thought, Su Muxue's eyes lit up. She currently had two pieces of black iron-grade equipment. Aside from that freak Dustseal, she probably had the best equipment in the entire Novice Village. Such an enormous advantage could bring her tremendous benefits.
"Uncle Liu, have everyone drop everything else and focus on leveling. Reach level 10 as fast as possible. We need to be among the first to enter a main city," Su Muxue told Uncle Liu.
"Yes, miss. I'll notify everyone right away," Uncle Liu replied without hesitation.
After repairing the Teleportation Array, the village chief returned to Wu Shaozhen. "Adventurer, the Teleportation Array has been repaired. Would you like to teleport to a main city now?"
"Yes," Wu Shaozhen said.
"Then please step into the circle of light and select the main city you wish to travel to. As the Novice Village's hero, this teleportation will be free," the village chief said.
There were eight tier-two main cities and four tier-one main cities in the game. Players could only teleport from a Novice Village to a tier-two main city. They had to reach level 100 before they could teleport from a tier-two main city to a tier-one main city.
Once Wu Shaozhen stepped into the circle of light, a system prompt appeared:
Please select your destination city. The eight Second-Tier Main Cities were displayed: Autumnwater City, White Marsh City, Giant Deer City, Fengyong City, Yellow Sand City, Northern Desert City, Extreme Ice City, Jinling City.
Wu Shaozhen casually selected Jinling City. It didn't matter where he went; only the surroundings would differ. Still, each city had its own distinctive features. White Marsh City and Autumnwater City were near the sea, Yellow Sand City and Northern Desert City were near deserts, and Extreme Ice City was near glaciers. There would be Teleportation Arrays connecting the cities later anyway, so his choice didn't really matter.
A flash of light blurred his vision. Soon, his surroundings came back into focus, and Wu Shaozhen found himself in an enormous city. Traditional buildings, roads stretching in every direction, and towering city walls made him feel, at first glance, as though he had traveled to another world.
"This is spectacular. That shabby Novice Village doesn't even compare," Wu Shaozhen said, awestruck. NPCs dotted the streets in twos and threes, and NPC city guards occasionally passed on patrol. There wasn't a single other player in sight.
"Class change first." Wu Shaozhen hadn't forgotten why he'd been so eager to reach a main city. He headed toward the city center. He had intended to ask an NPC for directions, but when he looked up, he saw an enormous building standing in the center with the words "Job Hall" displayed above it. He didn't need to ask to know that was where he could change classes.
When he arrived at the Job Hall, he saw six class instructors standing inside:
A beautiful mage instructor in black magical robes, a muscular Shieldguard instructor holding a shield, a Warrior instructor gripping the hilt of a greatsword resting on his shoulder, a beautiful Archer instructor with a bow and arrows on her back, a masked Assassin instructor in fitted leather armor, and a beautiful Priest instructor with a stunning figure dressed in white robes.
After considering the six classes for a while, Wu Shaozhen finally approached the Assassin instructor. Unfortunately, ranged attacks couldn't trigger his talent. Otherwise, becoming an Archer would have been the most satisfying choice-he could simply stand at a distance and shoot. Since Archer wasn't an option, his melee choices were Warrior, Shieldguard, and Assassin. As someone who relied on kiting, Wu Shaozhen naturally chose Assassin, the class with the highest agility.
"Hello, instructor. I'd like to become an Assassin," Wu Shaozhen said politely to the Assassin instructor.
"Adventurer, you have excellent judgment. Assassins are the fastest of all classes and have the highest burst damage. We are kings of the darkness, feared by all..."
"Adventurer, don't listen to his nonsense. Assassins can only pick on squishy mages and Archers. If one dared attack a Warrior like me, I'd cut him down in two swings. You should become a Warrior instead." The Warrior instructor beside them couldn't stand listening to the Assassin instructor keep boasting.
"Adventurer, why not become a Shieldguard? An Assassin's scrawny body wouldn't even make two mouthfuls for those beasts. Become a Shieldguard, and all you need to do is stand in front of them. They won't even dare bite you," the Shieldguard instructor chimed in.
Seeing that the other instructors were also about to start recruiting him, Wu Shaozhen quickly said, "Sorry, instructors. Thank you for your kindness, but I've already decided to become an Assassin."
Hearing Wu Shaozhen say that, the other instructors could only sigh. An adventurer had finally arrived, so they'd gotten a little talkative. Normally, they would never have interfered with a player's choice.
