All three warily scanned their surroundings. Any ghost connected to that female student was bound to be especially terrifying.
Fortunately, nothing unusual happened before they left the flower beds.
"We're in luck. We'll deal with the ghosts on the sports field first, then tackle this ghost security guard last. That's the most sensible order." Yang Chan let out a relieved breath.
The information mentioned that the ghost security guard had never appeared anywhere outside the flower beds.
Some of the ghosts on the sports field, however, roamed all over campus. If they came over while the three were dealing with the guard, they would be in danger.
It was pitch-black. The three could only vaguely make out a grassy field and two soccer goals surrounded by a rubber running track.
"A student died here. Apparently, Director Ma Hong punished him by making him run ten laps, and he suffered a sudden fatal heart attack. After that, several students who went running alone at night also suddenly died on the sports field for no apparent reason."
Looking at her phone, Yang Chan briefly described the ghost they were about to face. "Witnesses saw these students running before they died, with a blurry figure beside them. It seemed to be chatting enthusiastically with them."
"The report speculates that running within a certain area of the sports field will attract that dead student. He uses conversation to bewitch people, making them ignore their physical exhaustion and keep running until they die!"
Chen Xue was also looking at her phone. "This ghost's strength isn't listed, but judging by such a bizarre ability, he's very likely a vicious ghost. He's dangerous!"
Both women looked grave. Even D+ experts would never underestimate how frightening a vicious ghost could be. These things were simply too cunning and brutal.
"Now we need someone to lure the ghost out. Who's going?" Yang Chan asked.
This was the most dangerous task. Nobody wanted to face an unknown vicious ghost alone.
"Let's draw lots," Chen Xue suggested.
"No need. I'll go." Jiang Chen stood up. "But there's one condition. Don't make a move until you see me signal."
"Stay right here. I'll go bring a ghost back."
With that, he walked into the darkness of the sports field, leaving the two women staring at his broad back.
For a moment, Yang Chan was reminded of her father.
Pah, pah, pah! What am I thinking? He's just a shameless little crook who loves showing off!
Jiang Chen jogged onto the rubber track. A strong, strange odor hung in the air. He couldn't tell whether it was because nobody had cleaned the place in too long or because something had happened on the field.
After a lap and a half, another set of footsteps appeared behind him.
Jiang Chen turned to look. Chen Xue and Yang Chan were still standing at the edge of the field, frantically making faces at him as though trying to hint at something.
He gave nothing away. Soon, the person behind caught up and spoke first.
"Out running this late? I rarely meet fellow runners like you. I'm happy to meet you."
Jiang Chen turned his head and saw an ordinary-looking male student in sportswear, wearing a friendly smile.
"You're happy too soon!"
He suddenly pushed off hard and shot away like the wind.
The male student was left behind with his smile frozen on his face.
"You motherfucker! Ghost Qi +25."
After sprinting half a lap at tremendous speed, Jiang Chen turned his head and found the male student beside him again. His eyes narrowed.
Looks like speed alone won't shake this ghost.
"Heh, there's no need to be scared. I'm not a bad person. Meeting this late must be fate. How about we run together and chat?" The male student spoke again, his expression and tone utterly faultless.
Hearing his words, Jiang Chen felt his mind grow groggy, as though he had forgotten his original purpose. He instinctively asked, "Chat about what?"
Seeing this, the other boy's lips curled into a sinister smile. "What do you usually enjoy doing?"
"Girls," Jiang Chen answered succinctly.
"Uh..."
"The running ghost Sun Zheming thinks you've gone straight into overdrive. Ghost Qi +30."
The male student's expression stiffened sharply. That hobby of yours... is fucking excellent!
But if we keep talking like this, our whole world is going to get censored out of existence.
"Anything else?"
"I also like gossiping about people behind their backs," Jiang Chen said after a moment's thought.
"What a coincidence! I enjoy that too. There's practically nothing about our school that I don't know!" Sun Zheming looked utterly confident. His meaning was clear: ask him anything.
"Really?" Sure enough, Jiang Chen became intensely interested. "I heard our school has a director named Ma Hong who strictly enforces the school rules. He's ruthless when punishing students and has a terrible temper. Everyone secretly calls him the Living King of Hell."
"I think there's a rumor that Director Ma Hong can't perform in bed. Do you know anything about that?"
At the first part, Sun Zheming nodded repeatedly in strong agreement. At the second, his eyes lit up with excitement.
Finally, he chuckled. "Of course. That's a fact!"
"Really, Sun Zheming? You mean Director Ma Hong really can't perform in bed?! Can you tell me all about it?" Jiang Chen suddenly looked utterly shocked, raising his voice as loud as he could. The entire sports field could hear him.
Fuck!
Keep your voice down!
If Ma Hong hears this, won't he tear my bones apart?
Sun Zheming's face went deathly pale with fright. He hadn't expected this bastard to have such a big mouth. Was this any way to gossip? Why didn't he just bring a megaphone?
"Ghost Qi +80." "Ghost Qi +92."
Clearly, the ghost was terrified. Two hefty Ghost Qi notifications sounded in succession beside Jiang Chen's ear.
His eyes lit up. "Tell me, Sun Zheming! How did you find out Director Ma can't..."
"Keep it down! Director Ma patrols the school every night. If he hears us, we're done for!" Sun Zheming hastily stopped Jiang Chen. "Change it. Change the subject."
"Oh, I also heard that the homeroom teacher of Senior Year Class Four was a coward. When one of her students died, she clearly saw the whole thing. But when someone asked her to testify, she didn't dare say a word."
"Is that true?"
At this question, Sun Zheming's mouth twitched again.
You really know how to fucking pick them.
Every single one is someone I can't afford to mess with.
"Ghost Qi +45."
"Pick something else," he said helplessly.
"I heard a girl died at our school. Someone pushed her off a building, and she fell to her death. Do you know her name?"
Sun Zheming was so frightened his legs nearly buckled. "Let's go back to the Class Four homeroom teacher!"
"She really was the only one who saw the whole thing that day, but she kept her mouth shut. She didn't dare utter a single word of truth."
"Later, she died in her office. Someone gouged out her eyes and sewed her mouth shut. Her killer seemed to be saying, 'Since you ignored the truth, there's no point keeping your eyes. Since you refused to speak up for me, you'll never speak again!'"
"Then something even more terrifying happened. Once a teacher lost the ability to speak, the only thing she had left was physically punishing her students."
"Ever since then, a woman with empty eye sockets and a sewn-shut mouth often appears in the teaching buildings at night. Any living person who runs into her dies in a classroom, covered in wounds."
When Sun Zheming finished, he saw Jiang Chen pull a large megaphone from behind his back, press the button to stop recording, and then play the last recording.
His words instantly blared from the megaphone, echoing across the entire campus.
From one of the teaching buildings, a pair of empty eye sockets turned toward Sun Zheming in the distance. The bone-chilling murderous intent within them made his hair stand on end.
Sun Zheming couldn't help shuddering violently. He looked at Jiang Chen with an expression of utter misery.
Fuck! You really brought a megaphone.
Being human is a fucking waste of your talents. You'd make a great dog.
You absolute bastard!
"Ghost Qi +95!"
