"Of course it's good news! Do you know what's been happening in the Gotei 13 lately?" Yamabuki Chidori asked with a mysterious look.
Chizome Souya shook his head. Apart from visiting the hospital, he had spent the past few days at home and hadn't heard about anything major.
"You know the 11th Division, right? It's the strongest fighting force in the Gotei 13. Every century or two, someone challenges its captain. If the challenger wins, he becomes the new captain and inherits the title of Strongest Shinigami," Yamabuki Chidori said.
Chizome Souya knew that much.
He listened quietly for what came next.
"In three days, someone will challenge the current captain of the 11th Division. The two of them are going to have an earth-shaking battle. Want to watch?" Yamabuki Chidori asked. "And you can hire people to clean up the yard. Save your energy for more important things. Hiring workers creates jobs, too. It helps the Gotei 13's economy grow."
Chizome Souya didn't understand much about economic growth, but he was keenly interested in a battle for the title of Strongest Shinigami.
After his father died, Chizome Souya had secretly resolved to become strong. To him, the mark of true strength was becoming captain of the 11th Division and earning the title of Strongest Shinigami.
For now, though, he was too young, and his strength fell far short.
